Round 1: Triway Titans 8-2 @ Orrville Red Riders 7-3

  • OQB
Pitman.....Who are you picking in this game??

On this thread you are saying Triway can win it...Go Titans...etc....

On the Pickem page, you picked us to beat you?

how do you really feel? lol
  • BRF
Well, I, for one, am very happy with the way things are going with the Wooster football program and the staff certainly gets a vote of confidence from me.

Ringz: I caught your little cigar comment to me....yeah yeah!

BTW, one thing Coach D didn't like about the Saturday game is that it actually takes away a day of game prep for this one. So we are already down 7-6 in readiness for this game. All the Triway armchair QB's can act as scouts and give their in-put to the coaching staff. Advantage, Triway. ;-)

I think Triway will win, and that is reflected in my picks in the PAC-7 pick'em contest. In fact, I am the only person on the OhioChatter pick'em to pick Triway, 1 of 6 (out of 16) on Yappi, and 1 of 3 on JJ. If you are referring to the state-wide playoff pick'em, those picks are based strictly on a combination of Drew Pasteur's and Calprep's predictions and have no bearing on who I personally think will win. When the two web sites predicted differently, I chose the team with the higher point differential between the two predictions. The only time thought was involved was when they were opposites (Drew Pasteur picks SVSM by 3 over Hubbard, Calpreps picks Hubbard by 3 over SVSM), in which case I had to make a decision. I figure on playoff-long pick'ems like that, I'm better off going with the percentages in the long run. Obviously going into this game, most computers are going to "pick" Orrville. But thanks... even after this explanation I'm still going to get nasty text messages and people calling me Benedict Arnold like after week 4. Ugh.

But I, personally, having seen this team progress over the season like it has, seen the improvements, and heard Orrville fans talk all season about their inconsistency and pick apart their own team and reading how some say they played their most complete game against us in week 2, I really do see us winning this Friday. Are the odds for us? No. Most people will pick Orrville. But I, for one, think we will win this Friday night!

What's this I see the titans picked up Randy Moss to help their passing game..................... No wait that's the Tenn. Titans, I thought Pitman was bringing in a ringer for this game :)
  • thePITman
^^ Try hiding (or fitting) him in a Triway Titans uniform. LoL!

HA Ha! Comparing the 2 schedules is like apples and oranges. 6 of the 10 teams the Titans play absolutely stink. Why would the odds be for you. When the Riders played Triway Max came in off an injury and Davis moved over to weak side had not played there yet this year. Hope your Qb can run fast and throw while fleeing. I thought the predictions were gracious to Triway.

Where in my post did I compare schedules between the two? Oh, I didn't. Settle down.

Didn't say you did. I just looked at the schedules of both teams. I figure alot of the reason why Triway gets no respect is because of their schedule and that is why everyone is picking against them plus the score of the first meeting against Riders.
  • BRF
Dong! A nerve has been struck and the Rider faithful seize on the moment! Time for Ringz to provide some back up! Hahahahahaha! (I guess I coulda just shortened it to LOL, LMAO, or even ROFLMAO)

    Go Riders!

I was openly admitting that Orrville is the favorite yet I am still picking our Triway Titans. I'm sorry if my post was unclear.

Haha. No nerve struck in me, but maybe Go Rider? I just didn't understand his response.

    Good reading, RR1. Thanks.
  • OQB
Gotcha Pitman...I just saw the statewide pickem and saw you pick Orrville....and I was like wait what? haha

Ringz is gunna jump on that schedule comment...lol

    SCHEDULE......Slowly I turn....step by step.... :D

    Nice Reading RR1...
  • 5knots
yeah, well, according to " ringz rules" we cannot mention our strength of schedule.....I guess because it's not fair to Triway......we cannot mention we have D I colleges after our players.....I guess because it's not fair to Triway.....We cannot mention our players have a certain set of physical attributes that tend to make one a better football player....I guess because it's not fair to Triway. Therefore following "ringz rules" we should just say "go team go". Oh....in doing some research on a certain song I found a long lost verse in the stacks of the library......it goes like this:

    I don't know but I've been told honey.....honey
    I don't know but I've been told babe......babe
    I don't know but I've been told
Chicken sh*# is blue and gold
And their pi$$ is purple and white

    an amazing discovery really.
  • OQB
One of my all-time favorite songs!!

I found a movie as well....

Remember the Titans.....As in Remember how bad we beat the Titans in week 2 :D

I know it's nothing like RedRider1's analysis, but I decided to dedicate my most recent blog entry to this Friday's game. Don't hate on me too much! Also, please excuse the dummied-down language, since many un-sporty people read it. :)

    http://marcum-stayingcurrent.blogspot.com/2010/11/football-playoffs-take-three.html

I have always loved writing, and I have always loved talking about sports. However, if I completely dedicate my blog to writing about athletics, I'd just be a RR1-copycat. :( And by no means am I trying to "compete" with RedRider1. There's no sense trying. RedRiderSportsBlog.com is awesome! My blog is personal, but I decided to do a game write-up seeing as it's the biggest game of the year! So please disregard the rest of my blog, which covers topics such as Cedar Point, Hocking Hills, Halloween, Akron Marathon, Double Rainbows, and BasilMarceaux.com. Haha!
  • RednBlack
RR1 your Rider sports blog is awesome. Great Analysis. Go Orrville beat those Titans AGAIN!!! : )
  • BRF
Good job, Pitman! Your blog almost brings a tear to my eye! Hahahahahahahahaha

For starters, let me mention our "cockiness and arrogance". Please apply that to your basketball fans who were always not only poor losers, but POOR WINNERS! In BRF's opinion, there is nothing worse than a Poor Winner. And, imo, many of your fans fit that category. Example...."Scoreboard...winning team, losing team"...and enjoying the rubbing in." Don't think that that kind of sportsmanship will not be a factor in this game, ya know, since you claim that we are your biggest rival. Guess what? You aren't.

    ROFLMAO!

Great read, thanks. Also the 3-6 team you mentioned in the playoffs in 2001 was DII Walsh @3-6, they beat DI Mayfield 8-2, DI Strongsville 9-1 , and SVSM 7-3 and made it in as a 7th seed, but lost to Chaney in the 1st round.
  • luckydog
Good luck Riders from BULLDOG Country...........take it to 'em again and silence this crap;)

I know we are not Orrville's biggest rival, so it's easy to understand why you don't get up for or respect Triway like you do for Wooster. That's understandable. And "Winning team, Losing team"? I've been to all but about 10 Triway basketball games in the last 8-9 years, and I've heard our students say that twice, maybe three times (partly because of our pretty bad student sections for a few years, but also because it's just a stupid chant). And I'm sure no Orrville student section has ever said that. LoL! I forgot. Orrville can do no wrong! ROFL!
  • OQB
Nice blog pitman...but I do have to side with BRF on this issue.

Triway fans are arrogant, cocky, and confident as well.

As for the rival issue, I would still say Triway is our basketball rival and that's all....

Nice work though, very interesting to read.
  • OQB
It's not just the students, its the whole Triway fan base.
  • thePITman
Watching the video again from the Fairless game in 2007, I will say that I don't think ANY Orrville player would EVER do what one of their kids did after their win, running in circles around the court, going in front of our student section, taking off his jersey and waving it in the air taunting our students. Orrville's fans may be arrogant and cocky from time to time, but from my personal experiences back to Damon Robinson, Tim Hiller, Tommy Brenner, and company, their players have always been first-class on the field of play. (plus it's fun to play poker with Damon, especially when he and Linc Rottman are at the same table!)

Agreed, we both think the other's fans are arrogant and cocky (although some may view it as confidence). Here's another thought on my last comment: I'd like to wish both teams good luck ON the field of play this Friday and to represent their schools and communities with good sportsmanship and class before, during, and after the game. I will always remember a quote from an Ohio State Buckeye football player about 5 or so years ago who said that even though the Ohio State/Michigan rivalry is one of the biggest (if not THE biggest) rivalries in all of sports, and even though it was the hardest-hitting game(s) he'd ever played in, it was always one of the cleanest games because of the mutual respect between the two. Although we may not be Orrville's biggest rival and while I am not comparing our rivalry to the Ohio State/Michigan rivalry, I hope both teams' players and coaches are able to play with intensity while still drawing the line between physicality and dirtiness on Friday to make a great high school football game!

5knots, BRF, RR1, and all, I think I'll be tailgating Friday before the game starting around 5:00 or so. Heck, there are TWO Facebook events for it! Haha! I'll see if I can stop by the ol' RV to say "Hi" unless my purple won't be allowed. :)
