Division IV Region 14

clickclickboomYou guys realize there is an Orrville football 2010 thread right?
-
OQBHey click how's it going?
-
bwcomet89Well as far as Genoa goes, there's not much to talk about. Just beat a very average Eastwood team, has winless Gibsonburg this week, and pretty much has nobody high-caliber left on the schedule. Very ho-hum in Comet Country right now. Maybe we could talk about our possible playoff seedings, but it's a little early. There would be much talk coming out of Ottawa Glandorf, if there were OG posters on this site.
-
bwcomet89Ok, here's somethig Genoa that's noteworthy. DL Andrew Hayes had 18 tackles with 6 TFL friday versus Eastwood. Impressive no matter where you're from.

1. Win out...win region & host
2. Beat Ash & CF, lose to Mad or Woo...or both...I still think we host
3. Lose to Ash or CF....beat Mad & Woo - Likely host
4. Lose to Ash & CF...beat Mad & Woo - make top 8, don't host
5. Lose to Ash or CF....lose to Mad or Woo - make top 8, dont host
6. Lose remaining 4 games.....no playoffs....and with a 5-5 record...we wouldn't deserve it.
We win this week, we get in with 6 wins, regardless of the final 3 games....Fantastic50 has the cutoff in Reg 14 at 14.69 points, Orrville already has 11.9. A win over Ashland and lowballing them the rest of the way (i.e losing to Clear Fork, beating Madison & Lex) would give us 15.78 points (not counting any other potential points from Northwest, Triway, Lexington, Senior or WH).
I think the only way we don't make the top 8 is for us to lose out and finish 5-5.
Truthfully, I'd rather our backs be against the wall......we need to start playing like it matters....because it does.
RR1, looking at your 6 scenarios
#1 yes we would win region and host
#2 yes we would have a minimum of 190.5 points ( or 19.5 with divisor, after week 10 just take your total and move the decimal over 1 spot)
#3 & #4 same game results , we still probably host as #4 seed because with a minimum of 169 pts with the lead the top 4 have over 5 thru 12 I don't see enough points out there for them to catch us unless they win out and all their opponents win also, not likely.
#5 lose 3 of 4 we are probably still in at 6-8 spot
#6 lose all 4 could still be in as # 8 as we have such a big margin from the top 4 to 5 thru 12 spots, a lot of teams would have to win out and then get wins from their opponents, but let's not think about 5-5 -
OQBMan poor Lake is 5-1 and probably won't even get to sniff the playoffs.
I'm so glad we play our tough schedule. -
THE4RINGZLake must be this year's New Philadelphia

They've played 4 teams that are currently 0-6. They will also more than likely lose their next two games. -

I'm not too bad. my comets are 6-0.. how are you? -
OQBPretty good my Riders are 5-1 and play their biggest game of the season so far.

5knotsfantastic 50 is updated. Looks like Region 14 is the overall weakest in IV. That's OK with me. Here is the link http://www.fantastic50.net/index.php?pr=Ohio_Region_14

RedRider1Imagine what it'd be if not for two NE Ohio teams (Ely. Cath and Orrville)....not sure it's all that weak.
Orrville would be 3rd in R13, 2nd in R15 and 2nd in R16....so in terms of points, it's right there with the rest of the regions.
Strength of teams top to bottom maybe. -
5knotsyeah, by saying overall, I was referring to the cut off which may be very low.

Saw an article in the PD that Maple Hts could go 10-0 and not make it this year. -

Thats cool.. best of luck this week. hope to see ya week 13. -
OQBClick, thanks we will need it. I would say good luck to you too, but I doubt you will need it this week! lol

bwcomet89Lake is a prototypical product of a weak schedule. Went into double OT versus 1-5 Otsego, could only hang 20 on a Swanton team that is just awful in all sorts, and lost to an ok Northwood team by about 4 touchdowns. They are leaps and bounds ahead of where they were 2-4 years ago, but are nothing more than a L2 point goldmine for good teams that play them. Ah, the loophole of the current playoff system. I am, however, suprised they have the team they do though. After battling levy issues and in turn some athletes leaving the district for greener pastures, they are lucky to be where they are.

Region 14 has 4 of the top 10 teams in the DIV according to Drew, so I wouldn't call that "weak" by any means. -

Then there's that tornado that leveled their school.bwcomet89;508942 wrote:After battling levy issues and in turn some athletes leaving the district for greener pastures, they are lucky to be where they are. -

Looking at computer points #5 Triway wouldn't be in the top 8 in regions 14 and 16, region 15 they would be 6th, so overall region 14 teams from 5 to 8 would not rate in the state, so that part of our region is weak. Like I said before there is a big gap after the top 4 in region 14. -
5knotsI do not dispute that there are as good a teams at the top in any of the regions...my reference was the what the cutoff number will be for the 8th spot....and I think it will be considerably lower than the other regions. We have been on the other end of this where in years past we have had more Harbin points than 70-80% of the DIV teams in the playoffs and we got closed out. When a team like Orrville could go 5-5 and make the top 8 and other schools in other regions get closed out who had more points I think that is an overall indication of a weak region. JMO
An example was '08 where we don't make the playoffs in Region 13. We would have made it easily in any other Region....especially Region 14. -
RedRider1^^I get your point...historically, R14 has been weak...and probably is no different this year...save for 5 or 6 teams, it's top to bottom strength is not that good.
-
riders1Exactly, a team like Triway is sitting good at #5 in our region , but would be out in 2 of the other regions, so the overall strong teams in region 14 are down in comparison to previous years.
-
OQBSame thing happened in 2007, we go 6-4 and miss the playoffs by 1 spot, then in 2008 we go 7-3 and miss the playoffs by 2 spots. if we aren't in region 13 that year we make the playoffs.

I get it. You guys were talking about POINTS and I thought you were talking about the quality of the teams, since there IS a difference. I was referring to the quality of teams in our region, as ranked division-wide on Fantastic50.net.5knots;509062 wrote:I do not dispute that there are as good a teams at the top in any of the regions...my reference was the what the cutoff number will be for the 8th spot....and I think it will be considerably lower than the other regions.
