Orrville Football - 2010

RedRider1I liked that play they ran...QB pitched and immediately turned into a lead blocker.
You're right though....Mason, Tre and Davis would have to be the components of it. Dont want your soph. QB as a lead blocker. (Hopefully this isn't viewed as an attack.) -
Go RidersI think if we showed that to a defense it would definitely be a departure from our regular running scheme. Any one of those guys will run or block well. I think a play like that would force a defense to try and cheat which would open up a great passing threat.
-
OQBWe would have to have atleast 5 plays out of that formation. If we had just that sweep pkay, teams would know what's coming
-
5knotsNo way. Not if you do it well enough.
-
RiderfanHow's Max doing? He's a bit of a freak with his size and speed but, can he stay healthy?
-
5knots?able
-
RedRider1isnt everyone?
Really hope he can go....need his ability to be disruptive, not to mention his quickness.
If he could go...but only on 1 side of the ball...which do you choose? -
BRFHa ha....wagons gets on here and makes his statement and then Go Riders thinks he is being called out because wagons types "Go Riders!!!!!!!!!!!!!"....that is rich! On another note, I never thought about Mason at the QB spot, but I find that a VERY interesting suggestion. I heard that the local axe grinder was doing a booming business lately, too. Ha Ha! BRF shout out to that lovely little lady over in Ashland who likes to read (and post) here in our little man club!
-
OQBSo you're saying there is no way it can be stopped if you run it the right way? I doubt it. You have to have other plays from that formation for it to be successful. A good defensive coordinator will know what is coming when lining up that way and only running ONE play. Gotta mix it up and make them prepare for something else, you know that!

I have thought this since June. I saw Coach Davault in Senor Panchos one night and we were talking about this years team and I gave him the idea of Mason lineup at QB, Tre at Rb, and Turner at Slot/wing and run a triple option. He looked intrigued, I knew it would never happen but what if........ ?? -
Wagonsga# 412, 435, and 437 are a few of the blogs I refer to so far as attacking the kids by name. Then in 37 it is stated that we need to stop the cheerleading. WE SHOULD NEVER STOP THE CHERRLEADING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
5knotsSorry Wagons.....having an opinion and attacking are two different things. Nobody is out get anyone here. Just talking about what you think may make us a better football team. I agree we can always cheer for the Riders....but we can also be critical as well. No harm done. People on here really back the entire Rider team in many ways you do not even know. It is what makes Orrville a neat place to play.........Pressure is a Privilege!
-
RedRider1Here's the 3 posts mentioned....please review and tell me where any attacking is occurring. So I guess 'GoRiders' was right in assuming it was his comments that were being targeted...even though "no names were mentioned."
Post #435…Go Riders;501749 wrote:We have a green QB to say the least. He is trying hard give him credit. He was thrown in as a soph. and has limited exper. but he is making many mistakes and we have been very lucky to come out with wins the last 2 wks. I hope that Kyle becomes the Qb soon that we all want him to become for the playoffs but unless we change up the running game we will struggle against good teams. The other issue I have is what do we do if during the next few games Kyle keeps throwing picks? He really struggled against Senior. Do we look at wild cat with Drew or Mason? This whole season we are just turning over the ball in an unacceptable manner game after game. Sooner or later luck runs out. This "hold your breath and pray the offense doesn't screw up" won't win playoff games. Time for changes. Ok now let the argument begin!
Post #437…the “him” & “he” is referring to Drew Brenner…not Kyle.Go Riders;502962 wrote:Kyle has had several times where he clearly should have tucked and run instead of forcing a pass. I don't think that evaluating a QB should be only an arm question. Leadership, running ability and being able to improvise in tough situations are just as important. On Kyles defense I do think he had a big run in the Triway win. I would like to see him do more of that if the pass is not there. If the picks don't end and if Kyle doesn't tuck and run some we are in for some real nail biters.
The issue of Kyle running more and cutting down on INT's are both decision making things, and things that I'm sure he's continuing to work hard at....and BOTH have been addressed by Coach Davault in comments to the media. So is coach attacking him too? Of course not.Go Riders;502988 wrote:I was at those Jr. High and freshman games. I don't remember him totally stinking. I agree there is a reason why he is not QB but I'm not sold that it is because he was that bad throwing. Maybe it is because he is great at receiver. Whatever the reason the big issue is stopping the picks. If Kyle is injured then what? Just putting out controversial questions. Beats reading constant cheerleading.
This is silly. -
ArrowGrad02GO ARROWS!!!!!!!!!!!!
BEAT ORRVILLE!!!!!!! -
RedRider1^^About your all-time record.....I have Orrville as playing 972 games....to Ashland's 951 games.
That's a lot of history for both schools.
Two proud programs for sure. -

It sure is!! -
Go RidersThinking about tonight 2 things stand out as be crucial for winning. 1 st we need great special teams play all around. The special teams can set the tone and controls the momentum more then people give it credit for doing. 2 nd we need the offense to execute all around. Besides the fore mentioned qb issues other problems have been drive stoppers. Penalties, fumbles, bad snaps and dropped passes. We have to many of these mistakes. Proper execution from the offense as a whole will be absolutely imperative. I said before after watching Ashland vs. Senior tape Ashlands defense gives up yards. Senior moved the ball fairly well and did score 20 they should have scored 28 but were stopped at the 2yd line.
Defense has played awesome 7 points given up in 12 quarters unreal!!!!! The "Red Curtain" needs to be alert and ready like never before. This Ashland team reminds me of what the top 4 teams in our region will be like come playoff time. We are going to learn what we have tonight. First real good team since Copley. -
RedRider1^^So perfect.
Dead on about the offense....can't get into 2nd and 3rd and long, especially if it's us shooting ourselves in the foot. If we can get 4-6 yards in 1st down it will help immensely.
Can't play on our heels (i.e. tentative) either.
D has played well...but if it's our first good team since Copley, it's also our first good offense we've played since Copley too.
Like coach D said in the paper....we'll see if this team is for real. -
OQBDon't you just love high school football!!! Let's Go Riders, Make a statement tonight!
-
OQBWell if its not turnovers its penalties. Frustrating game to watch tonight. We gift wrapped that one with a big bow on top!
-
wallykThe Arrow offense had a little something to do with it.
-
ArrowGrad02Orrville's "Strong Defense" was not as good as advertised. Weak secondary and many holes on the line.
-
Go RidersAshland beat us and we beat us!! 1st quarter D makes 2 great stands and the offense plays awful. Qb was playing terrible in 1 quarter and half of 2nd. He played better as game progressed. Penalties just killed us. Trey was non factor for most part. I may be alone in this observation but Matt Davis really only gets to run on one type of play. Matt starts in motion then we hand to Matt. It works once. We do the same play with Mason. Im going to send coach Devault a strobe light so when Matt or Mason run that play more then once we can put it on their helmet so the D can see it coming. I can see when we are running that play but Devault must not think the defense can see it coming. Will we ever run split back and will they ever let Matt run from the tail?
Ashland tore our secondary to pieces. Great game by their qb. That is a varsity qb there!! When we had Matt at H and Mason at tail in the 2nd quarter we mixed the play calling up the best I have seen all year. We scored and ate up clock. Never went back to that. Why?
I'm not going to say that we should have won that game but we could have. We beat ourselves in a lot of ways and played offense ok for 2 1/2 quarters. The play calling is not great. We need split backs. Our offense is to easy to read. Watch 1 quarter of film and you see all the offense we have and the coaches refuse so far to add any type of different formations or plays.
Our offense needs to be effective for all 4 quarters from start to finish if we expect to get to the playoffs and go very deep once we are there.
We need to bounce back from this loss. Time for some offensive changes. Change is not always bad. -
wallykI was impressed with the speed and agility of #1 (Stewart?). Seems like he could have been used more.

I agree. I'm confused why the coaches use a 3 ring binder as a offensive play book when it seems we only have one page in it. Maybe we can laminate the page then throw away the binder. Get the point!!!
