Orrville Football - 2010

Missed the game Friday, out of town. What happenned with the XP's? Did we go for two, bad snaps? The kicking game has been solid.
  • 5knots
1 he hit low and blocked...the others good leg just pulled 'em all to the left.
  • RedRider1
Is timing still an issue? Early on it looked like he was waiting until the ball was placed before starting his approach?

You watch college and pros and the kicker is starting his approach when the ball is snapped.

I'm not saying we should have college or pro precision.....but i do think his approach needs to be quicker.

Perhaps he's rushing his kick b/c of pressure from the edge, thus pulling the kick?

This comes from my ZERO years of experience of kicking the ball. :)

The other thing that could have helped him iron things out on the sideline would have been if they would have brought the net out....we are not used to having a pure kicker only.
  • RedRider1
Do we have a net? Someone mentioned that during the Copley game. They had a net, none for us. Bring it out the rest of the way....might help keep him warm as the weather gets cold.

PS - Soccer plays at Follis Field tomorrow...saw a pic of the field during the Ashland game...it's already torn up. Any wet weather over the next month and it will be the typical mudbath in week 10.

Embarassing to have to play the 100th game in mud. Save your traditionalist hooey.....

    You pansy....
  • OQB
Yes we have a net, but it is never brought out because we have never had a player who just kicked. I think it would be good for them to bring it out so he stays loose and is ready at all times. He was pulling the kick because of his plant foot. If it gets too far in front or behind the tee, it causes that.

As far as the field goes, the mud just adds to the game. Makes you work and concentrate harder. I loved it, even though I was a QB.

Tre raised his YPC by almost a full yard thanks to his 173 yards on 15 carry effort.

He's alone in 2nd place for yards rushing with 709 (5.4 ypc)

McCune leads the OCC with 1061 yds on just 136 carries. (7.80)
Woosters Anderson had a bad night against CF with only 31 yds on 13 carries. Now has 637 on the season (7.32 ypc).

A repeat of that performance against Ashland would be huge for Tre.
  • OQB
We need to beat Ashland through the air, run first and get some big pass plays to open the defense up. I have a feeling they will stack the box and make Kyle beat them, I know I would.

    AND the team, too! ;-)
  • OQB
We need to give Kyle some time to throw back there this week. If he can get a few big completions early, it will really get him fired up and playing well.
  • Old Rider
Wooster ran and threw the ball with success on Ashland to the tune of 400 plus yrds of offense. No discredit to Wooster as they played really well that night....but we aren't Wooster and our defense will in NO WAY give up the yardage that Woo did against Ashland.

I think if we can control the ball offensively (and take care of it) we will give ourselves a chance. I look at Ashlands schedule and other than their loss to a tough Marion Franklin team, I just don't see another opponent that they have played with our athletic ability and a defense that runs as well as ours.

Kinda what I am feelin' too. Need to take care of the football on Offense we will be OK.
  • OQB
No turnovers this week....we control the ball and Time of possesion, but we have to be able to throw the ball consistantly this week. Ashland is too good to be one dimensional.

Alot of talk especially on the Ashland thread by both sides. I'm not sure if Ashland has had the stalling offense that we have had during games. I would love to say we will be right there with them throughout the game but if we play like we played the first half of West Holmes we will more then struggle. I'm not sold on our QB being varsity level. He is there and will stay there but he makes enormous amounts of mistakes. The Ashland team is no West Holmes not even close to being that bad. I really hope we just are having a case of playing to level of our competition. We will play ok if thats the case. I don't think Max practiced today. Hope he gets healed up. Triway ran right at the frosh weak side linebacker with success until we moved Davis back there and brought Max in off the injury. We need all our starters to be in this one and healthy. I still shake my head in disbelief when I think about how awful the offense played the first half of West Holmes.

If we win this game, it will be b/c we ran for 200+...didn't turn the ball over, and controlled the time of possession.

I have confidence that our D will be good, but expecting a shutout not realistic, IMO. Limit the big plays and be opportunistic.

I feel the QB for Orrville has done a darn good job of running this team. He has made mistakes but the only way he will learn is by experience. Try to remember he is only 16 and I don't think he was planning on being the starting QB this year. The team seems to respond to him and that is important for a team to trust thier QB. Doug has done a great job with this program and I think we should trust his judgement, it has worked so far.
  • RedRider1
    In perspective...he has.

Orrville has a very strong QB lineage....and sometimes we get spoiled.

I think coaches have done well to protect him and put him in situations where he can succeed.....but like it or not....16 or not...he'll be looked upon to be productive in these last 4 weeks and beyond.

And I don't think anyone is not trusting Coach D...he's got more win at this point in his coaching career at Orrville than Mo or Mac....that says a lot about his ability and should say a lot about the faith the Orrville fans have in him and his staff.
  • OQB
    Wagonsga,

All of us have faith in Kyle,Don't tell us we don't! We are just worried that the turnovers are going to hurt us. We Know he is young we have said that all along, and we know he is still learning and maturing as a QB. I think it is great that we are 5-1 right now, and I think the guys around him have helped make him a better leader, and have really stepped up big in games. Rider fans have a lot to look forward to the next few years.

Hey RR1, I enjoyed reading about the Trifecta on your blog!

Looks like 1 more win and we are in http://www.fantastic50.net/index.php?pr=Ohio_Region_14 we are benefiting from a weak Region 14 overall. This guys stuff just amazes me.

Watched some Ashland vs Senior film. My take is that we have a much better defense then Ashland. Senior ran on them some and moved the ball fairly well. Ashlands offense looked good. Thought that Seniors defense was getting confused and frustrated. I think we match up well with Ashland. Could go any number of ways really just depends on which offense shows up. We need to stop hurting ourselves with penalties. I think that our team speed is going to catch Ashland off guard. Watching their D we can really give them some match up problems.

Well, I am still smiling from the last 2 games we played at Ashland. Genoa last year and a 21-0 blanking of Ashland the year before. I don't want to lose that smile.....Go Riders. Play tough for 4 quarters.

    You were my inspiration.

    5knots,
he is amazing...and right in Wooster. Wooster paper would be wise to sit down and talk to him. He's the Joe Eitel in-wating.

And what'd I tell you.....we win this week and we're in the top 8...no matter what. But let's get this one and then win 3 more and win the whole dang region. How about that?

Wow...the cutoff is only 13.82 points for a top 8 seed. We'd have that this week if we win...easily. Seven wins usually gets us right around 20 points.

Right now, his projections have us playing Clearview in round 1, and then the winner of Genoa and OG in round 2. Cool.
