Reds Season 2016
-
Azubuike24The Reds have found their ineptitude match outside of the Braves. Milwaukee.
-
Ironman92Well, Billy just scored from 1st on a single.
-
Ironman92Glad the Reds were up by 5 when I started watching
-
Ironman92Ollie's Bargain Outlet indeed
-
Azubuike24Cotham faced 5 hitters, threw 12 pitches, allowed 5 its and 5 ER. It might go down as the worst pitching line of the season. Any of us could lob it over the plate 12 times and have a decent chance of not having a line that bad.
-
Ironman92Damn...now Lamb leaves the game after just returning from injury
-
SportsAndLadyNot that this isn't already known, but the bullpen is so so bad.

thavoiceWhat stat did I hear this weekend about the BP...that they had given up 8 HR's to the first batter they faced in the game so far this season? And it happened at least once in that game so they are up to 9 or 10 HR's on the first batter they faced?
That is just.....insanely bad. Are they not getting warmed up enough coming out the pen or what? -

Has to do more with the caliber of guys you have in the pen. Hoover going from a quality, if inconsistent, guy to a flaming pile of shit obviously hurt, but if you look at the guys you used yesterday....thavoice;1795237 wrote:What stat did I hear this weekend about the BP...that they had given up 8 HR's to the first batter they faced in the game so far this season? Delawber -- picked up off waivers this spring
Wood -- spent all of last year with Pittsburgh's AAA team; didn't do well enough to earn a call-up at any point (from what I read, they were looking at him as a strong mid/late-season call-up candidate, but he got worse as the year went along and so that never happened)
Ohlendorf -- former starter who moved to the pen to get more life out of his career
Of those three, Ohlendorf is the only guy with decent peripherals, but every single mistake he makes goes a mile the other way, so those peripherals don't mean shit. And, to make things worse, from the games I've seen, I'm not sure that any of your guys have actual set roles. They've struggled so much, it seems like the mindset is that if a guy's had a couple good outings, he'll either get thrown into high-leverage spots or they'll try to get a second inning out of him, instead of moving to the next guy.
So, in short, a lack of talent combined with questionable usage. -
Azubuike24I said it all spring. The pen was built through the waiver wire. Not sure why anyone expected anything less. Even Jumbo Diaz was a 30-year old AAA journeyman who had a few good weeks in the majors. J.J. Hoover was a throw in prospect traded for Paul Janish. Many of the other names? Awful.
The only guy who hasn't quite done what was expected is Cingrani. And I'm not ready to give up on him. It's hard to do much in this situation. -
thavoiceYeah, I realize it is the lack of talent over not warming up enough. Just seemed so uncanny for that to happen so often already this season.
I have only been able to follow them the last 10 days or so and watched a little bit and its tough. From contending to this in a fairly short order has been a jolt. WIll have to just hope they can rebuild. I only get down there 1-2 a year and may not even make it that often this year, likely more Dragons games instead and see what they may have coming up.
Always wanted to get Diamond seats and maybe this dumpster fire this year will help me find some a bit cheaper! -

They try to get ahead and like most cruddy pitchers miss in the zone and it gets rocked.thavoice;1795237 wrote:What stat did I hear this weekend about the BP...that they had given up 8 HR's to the first batter they faced in the game so far this season? The problem with Cingrani is that he never evolved as a pitcher. When he first came up, he was a guy who was really good at getting guys to chase his stuff. He wouldn't give up runs, but it'd take him 100 pitches to get 5 innings most times. Then people stopped chasing him and he couldn't adjust, so he's now a nibbler who gets rocked when he has to throw in the strike zone.Azubuike24;1795241 wrote:I said it all spring. It's a game of adjustments. Once hitters stopped chasing that FB up and out of the zone he hasn't been able to adjust and find something else.Heretic;1795250 wrote:The problem with Cingrani is that he never evolved as a pitcher. He is lucky he is a lefty, with a pulse and will continue to get chances. -
Azubuike24Cingrani has never had a role. Sure, he hasn't risen above the situation, but he's got 2 pretty good pitches and is a lefty. In a more stable situation, I think he could be a valuable bullpen piece. He might never figure it out, but I wouldn't give up on him just yet.

Most def. I wouldn't give up on him at all. Once they figure out his role, and once he figures out his role, he easily could be a mainstay in the pen for quite awhile. He has quality stuff.Azubuike24;1795258 wrote:Cingrani has never had a role. Sure, he hasn't risen above the situation, but he's got 2 pretty good pitches and is a lefty. Some can blame Price, but man when they aren't getting anyone out it is tough to solidify a role and he is moving them around trying to find something they are good at! -
Ironman92Nice win vs Pirates. Infield in actually worked and Phillips made a great play.

mhs95_06Reds give away a 2-0 lead to the Phils with 3 runs in an inning that started with 2 no out walks and lose 3-2. The Reds runs were given to them also.

Ironman92Reds got hosed on that call. Easily reached over and should've been a double

mhs95_06
Almost correct, but not quite, it was the starter who gave up the runs on walks on Friday the 13th. Bullpen pitched 5 innings giving up no runs.friendfromlowry;1795779 wrote:FIFY. -

mhs95_06Announcers are quick to point out the wind is affecting fly balls, but not mentioning it affecting the throws to 1B pulling the first basemen into the runners!
