I haven't seen enough film on Wentz or Goff but I can tell you this, none of them can be anywhere near as bad as Manziel, Quinn, or Weeden. What a disaster those 3 picks were.

Also, why is JFF still on the team? Dumpster him already jesus.

Probably because if he gets suspended the Browns will save more money.

No clue on manziel. Assuming it has to be something with the rule/law and it's only a matter of time. Because no one in this FO wants him.

As for the QB, give me Wentz. Start Mccown. Soon as any shot of a winning record/playoff appearance becomes impossible, throw Wentz in there.

Also, think they're waiting to make sure no more trade offers come in on Manziel as other teams free agency plans fall apart.

They should get two pretty high ones for Mack & Schwartz, assuming they don't start signing a bunch of FA's. I'd think they might get a 3rd rounder for the loss of Mack.

I thought if they drafted a QB that high and didn't start him from day 1, it was a "fireable offense?" (Not your words, BTW)

Heard this morning, on the drive in, that there were 3 teams that sent out "feelers" regarding his availability in a trade. I don't care if they can get a used golf cart for him. At this point, TAKE IT.

But with the number of holes they have, it's no going to happen that quickly, most likely. They might have the worst WR corps in the league and there are question marks at 3 OL positions. That likely won't get fixed in a years. It's possible but not likely. If Wentz, or whoever, balls out in the first year, maybe they accelerate the process.

If they have a good QB and want to spend the money, they can fill holes. Stop being so dramatic. This isn't a college football program, they can pick up players to fill holes if they feel they have their QB and have a team that can contend.

Not really sure what that means but whoever said that I disagree with him. I'm not saying sit Wentz for two seasons. But I don't believe he should be thrown to the wolves from day 1. Especially with this roster we are going to field.

Who's being "dramatic?" I just made a simple statement that they aren't easily going to fill all of those holes in one years time, whether through the draft or free agency.

Most teams are fortunate if they hit on 30% of their draft picks. I just don't get the feeling that with this Money Ball/metrics approach that FA is going to be their bread & butter.

I look at it this way, McCown got injured THREE times last year behind that "vaunted" O-Line. That's not including his dumbass helicopter move versus the Jets in week 1 which was his own fault. I agree with you that if they can throw McCown out there as a piñata until the rook learns the ropes, no problem.

the browns would have to over spend for even scrap heap players, they dont have enough money to fill all the holes

You aren't going to get many quality free agents without grossly overspending until you begin to build a quality franchise through the draft.

Not to mention that even if the rookie QB shows promise in their first season, players will still probably look at the Browns with a jaundiced eye and be skeptical about joining. They are going to have to establish a bit of a winning track record before decent FA's will want to come here. Then there's still the possibility that the front office doesn't value FA like others do.

    This.

Free agency is kind of like icing on the cake. It should be used to fill in a few key positions with impact players, not as the meat & potatoes of the roster. There's where the draft comes in.

Believe me, at one point I thought they could solve problems going the FA route (Bentley, Steinbach, et, etc) but it never seems to equate to sustained success like the draft does.

also midwest cities are always a tough sell for quality free agents

losing 40 percent of the offensive line changes things. i would imagine joe thomas could be draft day trade bait

I heard they are waiting on Manziel to see if he gets suspended and then they owe him less.

Interesting Schwartz story. Apparently he refused an earlier offer, then when no one was calling yesterday he tried taking the same deal, and the Browns said no, that same deal is off now. Then who knows what ensued. That's what he gets for testing free agency and losing, but I still wish we could have paid him.

With Bitonio back, and pastor having rt experience, and Erving being a true center (can't use his guard experience), I think we will be adequate on the offensive line.

I think Joe Haden's gone too.

Had they somehow kept Schwartz & Mack, I would've figured JT was safe but, at this stage, what's the point? Sure I'd like to see him retire a Brown but if they are going young, they might as well go all in. A rookie QB will obviously need backside protection but I just don't completely know where this new regime's mindset is.

That is exactly what I said. You're not going to get any FA's come to the Browns now, but if Wentz turns out to be a stud, and they're threatening playoffs, FA's will come and you'll fill holes.

Problem is, can the Browns have a successful draft or two. It's been about 300 years since they have.

I think that we'll see improvement in Erving from year one to year two but having Pasztor out there at RT doesn't give me the warm fuzzies. I'm still holding out that they could get someone like Wisniewski on a one year deal

Exactly. A good draft starts the ball rolling, another shitty one ruins this year and next year's free agent period.

I think Haden and JT are gone if this is the plan. Draft your QB of the future and build a young team around him.

With all the FA's leaving, there's really no other choice.
