2016 Browns Season Thread

How can the Browns fans on here think, after everything that's out there after the Sashi/Depodesta hires, that Hue would have the type of personnel control he had in Oakland?

No single person in Cleveland is going to have full personnel control.

    I love the hire.

I'm with Durkie on this one.

For once the Browns got one of the top guys instead of having to settle for chopped liver. Yeah, the Palmer thing may have been a boneheaded move, in hindsight, but he coached a hapless Raiders team to an 8-8 record with Jason Campbell as the QB until he got hurt. He's also coached on both sides of the ball so he's well rounded and, most importantly, he shined that ginger "turd" Dalton in Cincy to where he was one of the top QB's in the AFC until he went down. He had Heatmiser at an all-time high, confidence-wise. Also supposed to be one of these QB "guru" types.

With that being said, I don't think I want him putting his fingers in that personnel "pie" too much. Fortunately, there will be some checks & balances with Sashi making the final decision. Brown isn't a personnel guy but the more & more I hear about his suggestions (do NOT sign Bowe to a deal, which Farmer did anyway), the more I'm liking that promotion.

He may crash & burn like the others but I feel a helluva lot better about this team moving forward than I have on the last 3 hires.

You need someone in charge. Making those decisions by committee will be a disaster.

I don't think so. As long as everyone is on the same page and knows their role it could work out very well

Exactly. It doesn't matter if it goes Jackson --> Sashi --> Haslem or Jackson --> Haslem because all 3 of Jackson, DePo, and Sashi will be reporting to Haslem in some aspect. You don't hire someone (Jackson) who is uncomfortable with that arrangement.

There are an even amount of pros and cons for the hire imo just simply don't get the hype for Hue. At least we got our top candidate and this shit didn't drag out like Pettine. I also like that we stole an asset from cincy.

    Positives.

    He knows the division.
    He knows the opponents.
    He knows the Bengals.
He knows about the Browns and still took the job.

As a Bengals fan, I would've much rather lost him to New York or San Francisco. It makes the division games even tougher now.

And another positive is Manziel is finally gone. Gilbert I'm sure will be right there with him. He won't put up with dumb shit and players love playing for him. I think this is the best possible hire. Always gets the most out of his qb and utilizes his weapons very well. I expect big years from barnadge and Gordon.

One move 4(or 5) years ago makes this a bad hire! Got it!

Showed a lot of promise? Lol he was the 12th overall pick. Not even one sack. Malcolm brown was drafted end of the first round by the Patriots and he's showed more promise. Everybody said he'd be like nagta but haven't seen anything close. I think he was over drafted and I'm not impressed for the 12 overall pick.

Run stuffing nose tackles rarely make sacks.

Vince Wilfork, arguably the best NT of recent memory has 16 for his career.

All the Browns have to do is stop the run and run the ball.

What I found very interesting is I've seen a lot of mock drafts dropping jalon smith out of the first rd bc of his knee injury. Could you imagine drafting bosa and smith with our first 2 picks. Arguably the best 2 players in the draft

What? There's no chance we make the playoffs unless we can draft 8 future HOF'r defensive line players to stop the run.

Deydurkie a day or two ago: "it doesn't matter who we hire, we are going to suck ass and then start this shit over again"

Deydurkie (the hue apologist) today: "zomg love the hire, I WILL be there on opening day!!!"

    Brings the lulz

If you didn't have your head up your ass you will see I never said it was a bad hire, I just said I don't get the hype. I even admitted there are pros to hiring hue, derp.

I just find it funny that you tried to justify that trade because Carson is playing good football 4 years later for another team. Yeah great trade! When you make that type of you deserved to have your talent eval skills be judged, especially in your one and only year in a position to make personnel moves.

Mostly, the reality is if you want to win championships the better strategy is to draft an explosive offense that can put up points. Even if we don't win a championship, at the very least the Browns will be fun to watch.

But no, let's focus our efforts on drafting no-name DL to stop the 3 RBs in the NFL that have any value.

Agreed. Build your offense to be explosive, and your defense will stay off the field longer. Thus, their numbers will improve.

    It's all about the O.

Dude seriously? Lol he's a nose guard. They don't sack the QB.

The best nose tackles take up two offensive lineman against the pass and help stop the run. Shelton showed he can do both.

I think it's a great hire for Cleveland. Knew Hue was gone but was hoping he would go to San Fran and not be in the division. It's Cleveland so anything can happen but I think it's a home run hire. Gruden and Zimmer were coordinators under Marvin and both just hosted home playoff games in their second years as HC so there's a history of coordinators leaving and being successful from Marvin, even if it is only 2 years worth of evidence. I think he is a better OC and coach then Gruden as well and wouldn't be shocked at all if in 2 years the Browns are competing for the AFC North.

What I also like is that he was supposedly one of the top two coveted candidates in the league and he WANTED to come here. Yeah, they probably threw a bunch of money at him but one would have to believe he bought into Haslam/Depodesta/Brown's vision for the franchise.

Heard either Cleveland Clothing Company or Fresh Brewed T's is already cranking out the "Hue Dey" t-shirts. LOL

He's going to need time to prove himself and not sure he'll get enough time to matter. I think he's a pretty good coordinator but I don't feel the correlation is very strong there and being the HC is just so different. So many other areas and issues and so much more potential blame. I truly hope he does a pretty good job but it's a tough situation it seems. Not the easiest division but he should have ample understanding of how to attack the other north teams. If he surpasses 6 wins he'll surpass my expectations....and if he doesn't get 6 I'd guess he's not up to snuff for most Browns fans.

He could be an Arians type as they were about equal as coordinators but Arians is knowingly tough as a leader so we'll see how Hue is.

Giving him time will be the key. They won't flip this roster in a year and, although it's happened, fans can't expect a rookie QB to work miracles in a year. They could be worse, or similar, record-wise in 2016. Patience is key.

As far as toughness, I've heard he's very tough, but fair. He'll praise you when you're good and kick you in the ass when you suck but explain how to fix it.

I'd be pretty excited to see what he can do with a young QB. Harbaugh raved about his work with a young Joe Flacco and he seems to have done wonders for Dalton.

He kind of reminds me of the OC version of Marvin Lewis, not the success but Lewis worked with a better HC.
