Ravens at Browns

Gronk gets wasted and dances at clubs regularly, where's the outrage there? There is none, because he produces. Edelman was popping molly at the Kentucky derby, yet I didn't hear anyone calling for his head.
That was Welker and he got suspended.

JFF doesn't have a problem anymore than half the 22 years olds in the world, and no more than Gronk. He has been to rehab to save face, not to fix himself or stop drinking. Anyone who thinks otherwise is straight retarded. There was zero chance he was zero chance out of there and never drinking again, and I doubt he or the Cleveland Browns ever thought that was a reality going in.

Mr. Manziel's level of problem is such that it has already forced him to lose developmental time with his employer.

It actually doesn't matter whether he has an actual substance issue or not, as it clearly demonstrates his inability to make good decisions. If he went to rehab to "save face", he cannot have an alcohol-related incident of any kind. He's had two. He's failed miserably at saving face.

SportsAndLady;1765542 wrote:How do you know Gronk doesn't have a substance abuse problem?
I don't. I do know Manziel had admitted to one. That makes the comparison between the two invalid.

And this has been my issue with Josh Gordon too. I couldn't GAF if he lived in a house made out of weed, tore off a chunk and smoked it EVERY day as long as he did it AFTER he was no longer a Brown. As long as it's a league rule to NOT do it, DON'T. It's the decision making, when they have all of this on the line, that's a head scratcher.

Johnny has shown that the can't function when he drinks. Some guys can handle their alcohol, and some guys can't. Little Johnny football clearly cannot handle his alcohol. He had the drunken hotel party last season when he was wasted. He couldn't even call plays in the huddle late last season, and it was to the point where Travis Benjamin had to help him call plays. He had the pool party incident this offseason where he threw a bottle at a kid, and he got in fight on the side of the highway with a girl a few weeks ago after drinking.

Pettine giving the organization the big "fuck you" on his way out. McCown supposedly will start with JFF as 3rd string.

Johnny Manziel will be Browns' third quarterback Monday night, behind starter Josh McCown and Austin Davis.

On the bright side this is the closest thing to emotion Pettine has shown in 2 years

That will be funny to see. I am indifferent to who they start because all of the choices suck. They will all be out of the league within a couple of years.
  • Lovejoy1984
Johnny definitely is a fuck up, but seriously.....he should start the rest of the season. Fire Pettine today if he won't do it.
  • SportsAndLady
This is just stupid. Someone fire these fucking clowns (Pettine and farmer) and throw JFF out there to see what he's got. He's not in college he shouldn't be "punished" for partying. SMH only in fucking Cleveland.

I know there was the whole rehab thing and he's supposed to be clean and whatever, but benching him because of a video showing him partying is a fucking joke. Nobody would give a shit about the partying if he went out this Sunday and threw for 300 yards with 3 TDs and delivered a win.
  • IggyPride00
It's stupid to punish him, but at this point I just don't think there is any hope for him.

He finally has the starting job, would it have killed him to just stay home for 2 weeks? He has to know by now this is what happens when he goes out whether he did anything wrong or not. As Hyman Roth said in the Godfather, "This is the business we have chosen."

Johnny has to know that fair or not there are certain expectations of a QB in the NFL, and you just can't be out partying if for no other reason than the optics are bad.

He's a dumbass, and the people around him who don't try and tell him he is blowing his chance are even worse.

This whole situation freaking sucks. The incident with his girlfriend should have been his scared straight moment, and dude just for whatever reason can't help himself.

If he is trying to get a ticket out of Cleveland he had better watch it because the number of teams that will want to take him on is shrinking because of the Tebow effect where the media makes his presence untenable.

Sad part is he was showing promise on the field, but he just can't be trusted to not be a dumbass. That just doesn't work for the most important position in professional sports.

ESPN has to literally want to kill themselves right now because this game is officially unwatchable. Johnny was the only thing it had going for it, and now he is gone.

Exactly...these fucking idiots running this circus. Fuck Pettine and Farmer!

I can see both sides of thought on this.

On one hand, Johnny's had a decent number of alcohol-related instances in his past. As a second-year pro, he's already gone to rehab once and, after that, had the minor incident with his girlfriend. Odds are that at some point, someone in the front office basically told him that if he wants to be the man, he will have to stop the in-season partying, if for no other reason than to give a good outside impression. This is the NFL, where you have a suspension/fine-happy commissioner and moronic hot-take spewing pundits and fans who turn things like Cam Newton dancing into big things due to some hilarious perceived 1950s-esque notion of how a quarterback should be and act. The latter is a distraction, the former can kill a season. And if he was given some sort of "follow these rules or else" guideline and chose to do his own thing regardless, something was going to happen.

On the other hand, the timing of this for Cleveland might be as bad as humanly possible. The season is lost (other than going for the top pick), so bringing the competent (if not particularly good) old guy will help no one in any way. It also leads to the big question of what they'll do going forward.

Cut him? Well, he did show some signs of being a good player while he was in. He has a natural elusiveness that can allow him to make plays that a lot of guys can't. He also struggles to hold on to the ball or to do those good things with consistency. The sort of stuff, that with a high drafted young guy, you'd want to play them with some consistency in a situation like this in order to see if more reps equates to the weak points being improved on and the strong points getting stronger. If a team with more actual weapons picks him up, he gets on the field and looks good, the Browns look like idiots.

Trade him? Well, with the overall lack of on-field action he's had over two years combined with the conduct flags which are magnified by the media distraction due to him being Johnny Football and a tabloid fave since college, good luck getting anything worth anything for him.

Same ol, same ol? Bring back McCown or sign another veteran journeyman to compete with him and vacillate over which one gets the in-game reps, leaving everyone spinning in circles for another year. Unless they dump him, that'd about have to happen (doubt they'd just give him the keys to the team next year after this), which I can't see anyone getting excited about. "Buy your season tickets to watch Matt Schaub vs. Johnny Manziel all year here in Cleveland!!!!" Unless the veteran journeyman is Hasselbeck. Mantooth would cream over that.

JFF is a cancer and clearly not the future for the Browns, regardless who the coach is. Going to have to blow 1st pick on a QB again...
  • BR1986FB
@ Heretic... can't trade him. He has no value. No team is going to bring him in with the intent of starting him and if you look at most teams' backups, they are aging vets mentoring a young guy. Long story short, unless the Browns give him another shot, he may never start another NFL game.

This is it. Well said. The Johnny haters are partying hard and heavy today...probably a lot harder and heavier than Johnny did. It's not a mortal sin to drink and have a good time and wouldn't be surprised if a union grievance isn't filed. With that said, Johnny gave Cueball his word that he wouldn't party down. For that, Johnny is a fuckin buffoon and deserves punishment. What's really the shame here is that the Browns have a stud quarterback but will be dealing him to the Cowboys. For those that think his value is worthless...think again. He will garner a number 1 pick.

On a side...I've got 2 seats lower bowl end zone that I'm gonna get rid of. Paid 50 bucks each. PM if you're interested will sell at a discount. Who in their right mind want to watch this team now?
