Week 4: Browns @ Chargers

Cut them some slack. They just returned to the NFL in '99. You can't expect them to be a winning playoff team overnight.SportsAndLady;1753518 wrote:I'm looking for them to stop sucking at football and pissing off all of their remaining fans off. -

Delusional. Tell me more about how Shelton in the 1st round is making a difference. Maybe we should just draft D-line with our first round pick for the next 10 years because that will allow us to give up 0 yards rushing for the entire season!!Commander of Awesome;1753646 wrote:Browns passed for 341 yds whoopee! Close to 100 yrds of Carr's passing were due to Whitner and Gibson whiffing on arm/shoulder tackles.
Formula to winning football games is easy:
Run the ball
Stop the run
Rush the passer
Not rocket science Sleeper.
Reality:
Get a top notch QB
Throw the Ball
Have an okay defense -

Manziel is the worst QB in the league. You know how I know that? Because McCown is the worst QB in the league and Manziel can't beat him out in practice.Footwedge;1753655 wrote:Yeah..lets keep running McCown out there. LO effin L. Manziel would have had 4 touchdown passes and 450 yards passing yesterday with all the open receivers deep that McCown missed. Do you actually watch the games?
Pettine is a fuggin joke. Every other team in the league plays their top drafted quarterback...except this asshole that coaches the Browns. -

Yeah Pats are a great example. I can't tell you the name of the RB on the pats nor can I tell you the name of any of their defense. What can I name? They have Tom Brady, Gronk, Edelman, and Amendola. Who did they beat? A team that runs the ball, and stops the run. You can't make this stuff up! LOLCommander of Awesome;1753663 wrote:Never once said you don't need a good qb to win. Not once. Even with a good qb, you need a running game to support the pass (see pats, steelers, Seahawks, hell any good team). They all have strong running games.
Qbs best friend? A running game. Best defenses in the league? They stop the run. You have to be able to do that to win consistently in the NFL. Stop being a drama queen and putting words in my mouth. -
sleeperGreen Bay. Man they sure win games because of their dominant RB; what's his name again? Carolina, 3-0, top RB in the league right? No. Atlanta? Nope. Bengals? Disaster at RB. Denver? Who?
If you truly believe that having a dominant running game matters in 2015, please find another game to poorly analyze. -

Actually GB was a bad example, Eddie Lacy is one of the top 4 or 5 RBs in the NFL.sleeper;1753684 wrote:Green Bay. Man they sure win games because of their dominant RB; what's his name again? Carolina, 3-0, top RB in the league right? No. Atlanta? Nope. Bengals? Disaster at RB. Denver? Who?

A dominant running game can work, if you have at least a good QB. Russell Wilson is not elite, just good, and SEA makes it work with a dominant running game and dominant defense. -
AutomatikExcept that GB is currently sitting at 23rd in total rush yards.

Carolina is 6th in the league in rushing. Cards are 10th, Bills are 1st, Vikings and Skins are 3rd and 4th, Bengals 8th. Some pretty good teams mentioned.sleeper;1753684 wrote:Green Bay. Browns were 7-4 last season before the wheels fell off (which coincided with the loss of our running game). Any other fails you want to get off your chest?
Bottom line, good running attack, strong run defense, rushing the passer are keys to success. -

They also have the best QB on the planet. If you have an amazing QB, you can get away with not having the best running game. Most teams don't have Rodgers, and the browns sure as shit don't. Thus, they need a good run game to be competitive.Automatik;1753688 wrote:Except that GB is currently sitting at 23rd in total rush yards.

Strong running game and strong running defense are the exception, not the rule to win championships. This isn't the 1970's. -

By this measure, I can guarantee you, least 2 of the top 3 passing attacks in the NFL wont win anything either. Guess it doesn't work, right?

IggyPride00This is as divided as I have ever seen the fan base right now. Everybody is angry and lashing out at eachother.

FootwedgeWas listening to Zagura anf Wilhelm and they were both harping on the unbelievable inaccuracy of McCown on his long passes yesterday. Then they reminded folks that Manziel was far and away the most accurate long ball thrower in his quarterback class 2 years ago...much better than Carr...much better than Bortles...much better than Bridgewater et al.
And he continues to rot away on the bench because the bald headed fuck is hell bent on playing Josh fuggin McCown. And BTW, Pettine's defense in Buffalo ranked 28th against the rush. The Browns were 32nd last year and rank 32nd this season. Haslem needs to fire the head coach NOW, place Flip in as the interim, and demand Manziel be the starter. -

Strong running game and strong running defense are the exception, not the rule to win championships. This isn't the 1970's.
2000-Rams-passing team
2001-Ravens-Run/Defense
2002-Patriots-Defense/Brady (they had best defense in league that year)
2003-Buccaneers-Defense
2004-Patriots-Passing/Brady
2005-Patriots-Passing/Brady
2006-Steelers-Run/Defense (Ben was nearly a non-factor back then)
2007-Colts-Passing/Manning
2008-Giants-Defense/Run (Eli average, don't try to convince anyone otherwise, he is not a good/great QB)
2009-Steelers-Defense/Ben (he started becoming a passer by here)
2010-Saints-Passing/Brees
2011-Packers-Passing/Rodgers
2012-Giants-Defense/Run
2013-Ravens-Defense/Run (Flacco=Eli)
2014-Seahawks-Defense/Run
2015-Patriots (mainly because the Seahawks are stupid)
So, in 16 seasons in this century about half of the Super Bowls have been won by teams that have average/decent QBs and great defenses/running games (Seahawks, early Steelers, early Patriots, Giants, Ravens, etc) and great defenses/run games, and half have been won by teams with just great QBs.
So, once again, it absolutely can be done with defense and running the ball as long as you have a DECENT QB, the facts support this no matter how many times you try to yell the contrary. -

1 game, his career passer rating is 72.4, not exactly stellar.Footwedge;1753701 wrote:134 passing rating makes him the worst in the league? -

Azubuike245 of the last 10 Super Bowl Champions didn't have a defense ranked in the top 14 in the NFL. The other 5 had defenses ranked in the top 4. There's no streamlined formula to win a title. It can be done in multiple ways.
Of those 10 Super Bowls...Roethlisberger (2), E. Manning (2), P. Manning (1), Rodgers (1), Wilson (1), Brees (1), Flacco (1), Brady (1). At the time, Roethlisberger was far from an elite Qb, Eli Manning is good, but not a great QB, Flacco and Wilson are game managers...whereas Brady, P. Manning, Brees and Rodgers are hall of famers. -

Exactly my point, you either win with an elite QB, or you win with good defense/run the ball and a game manager. The Browns don't even have a game manager at this point.Azubuike24;1753719 wrote:5 of the last 10 Super Bowl Champions didn't have a defense ranked in the top 14 in the NFL. Manziel wouldn't register a point against anyone other than a bottom feeder. He may be the worst QB to ever start an NFL game in history. -

But one of the teams with the top 3 passing attack will win and zero of the top 3 running attacks. My logic is solid. You just want a platform for your 1970's style of football that hasn't worked in 40 years and it will continue to not work until there is some strategic shift in play style.Commander of Awesome;1753697 wrote:What shitty logic.

How'd that Shelton pick work out for you? Hopefully that egg isn't too big on your face because you were all in on that pick and it hasn't paid off at all.
