Week 4: Browns @ Chargers
-
Commander of AwesomeTrying to erase that shitty game out of my mind and trying my luck at starting a thread.
3 Things I'm looking to improve:
1. Rush Defense.
-Holy fuck, we've been abysmal this season. I didn't think it could get worse, then it did.
2. Run the Ball
- With our "Great" oline, I'd expect to run the ball consistently. Well, it's not happening. The OC needs to stop calling running plays to the right and our RBs need to have some fucking vision. For christs sakes.
3. Secondary to stop playing like it's 2 hand tickle fight touch out there. Jesus fucking christ, Whitner takes horrible angles and can't wrap to save his life, and Haden is getting beat like a drum by fucking rookies. Fuck these assholes.
What are you guys looking for improvement? Anything I missed?
Might be playing against a back up QB for SD, we need ALL the fucking help we can get.
Go Browns! -
SportsAndLadyI'm looking for them to stop sucking at football and pissing off all of their remaining fans off.
-
GOONx19Go Browns.
-
Ironman92I have never like Rivers at all but he is durable. I'll be very surprised if he doesn't play.
They lost 3 starting lineman that game vs Vikings? Mike Zimmer showing his stuff.
I don't believe SD is that good and they always seem to start 4-7 and then go on incredible runs to just make the playoffs. I think playing them early is good but think after getting embarrassed it's going to be tough to get pressure on Rivers.

Won't get any better as long as Mike insists on letting Jim O'Neil keep his job even though he is the worst defensive coordinator in the NFL without question.Rush Defense.
The names and faces change and the run defense remains bad. That tells me it is a scheme issue as much as a personnel one, and since it has never been good we are employing a bum to run that side of the ball.
He was never qualified for that job, but Mike figured that if he could have his job without being qualified for it then so could his best friend. -

...and the mice start to jump off the sinking ship one by one. Oh this is the day I've longed to see...when the faithful finally start to eat their own. Glorious Day!SportsAndLady;1753518 wrote:I'm looking for them to stop sucking at football and pissing all of their remaining fans off. -
IggyPride003 of our 4 1st round picks the last 2 years didn't play today, and the one that did was wildly ineffective. A few more weeks like the last 3 and Danny boy will be petitioning the NFL to have a red cape attached to his uniform.

1) their gap responsibility is terrible. I think they have a ton of "potential" talent on that side of the ball but are getting shitty coaching.
2) is an even bigger problem and not just with the Browns. I know you're not going to like this COA, because you're pretty "old school" in your football ways like me (run the ball/stop the run), but they might as well just scrap the run and sling the ball around 50-60 times a game. These college O-Linemen that are coming out are a bunch of athletic ballerina pussies who are taught to be "finesse" players. When you need them to "punch someone in the mouth" to get a yard, they can't get it done. This seems to be prevalent on the Browns staff.
The thing about #2 kind of goes back to my comment about #1....poor coaching. Shanahan's offense didn't seem to have trouble running the ball last year. Maybe Flip is in over his head.
Like you said, "Go Browns" but I'm not expecting any miracle "fixes" in these two areas you mentioned. -

I'm not giving up on Shelton just yet. Boy is fat & out of shape. The weather cools down and I think he'll get a little better. Keep in mind he's doing his job (most times getting double teamed).IggyPride00;1753535 wrote:3 of our 4 1st round picks the last 2 years didn't play today, and the one that did was wildly ineffective. Commander of Awesome@BR, you and me have different memories of running the ball last season. Before Mack went down, yes we ran the ball well. After, we were atrocious. Shanny wouldn't stop with the toss sweeps, or the HB stretch plays despite the fact that we got dick with them.

BR1986FB
I'm far from thinking Shanny was a "super coach", contrary to Julio Jones comments. As you said, they were running the ball well at some point last year. Now, with all of the personnel back, they can't do squat so either a) the coaching scheme sucks or b) this O-Line is vastly overrated. Frankly, I think it's a little of both.Commander of Awesome;1753565 wrote:@BR, you and me have different memories of running the ball last season. Before Mack went down, yes we ran the ball well. If Schwartz is one of the big issues (you didn't say this), why the Hell isn't Irving out there in his place? First round O-Lineman should be seeing the field. Fact of the matter is, this group is a very poor run blocking unit. -
BR1986FB
If a NT is doing his job, it's not really going to show up in his stat sheet. If you look at some of the better NT's of all-time (Washington, Hampton, etc), rarely did they have a ton of tackles or sacks. Their job is to occupy space and let the LB's do their job. That's why Ray Lewis loved guys like Sam Adams, Haloti Ngata & Tony Siragusa.dattilvc;1753583 wrote:Shelton has graded out well in the last 2 games. Either you guys have no idea wtf you are talking about with Sheltons (Iqqy is a moron so this is most likely accurate) or you have unrealistic expectations of a rookie DT averaging about 10 backfield tackles per game. -
Commander of AwesomeShelton did not play well Sunday. He's played below expectations this season thus far, for whatever reason. I'm not saying he sucks or we need to move on etc... Just being honest.
-
sleeperAh yes more "Run the Ball, Stop the Run" nonsense. The Browns will continue to lose games until they adapt to the reality of the modern NFL system.
Remember, we drafted entirely for the run the ball, stop the run strategy and its complete garbage. The only positive is that we will be picking in the top 3 at next year's NFL draft. -
Commander of AwesomeSleeper, what did the Raiders just do? They ran the ball, and stopped the run. Nice fail.

Sorry but no. The only reason you play Manziel is that he can give you an extra loss or two at the end of the season over McCown. The Browns would be tanking entirely if Manziel play another down of football.BRF;1753556 wrote:And play Manziel. -

Yeah those 314 passing yards and 2 passing TDs were useless. LOLCommander of Awesome;1753642 wrote:Sleeper, what did the Raiders just do? They ran the ball, and stopped the run. Nice fail.
It's a passing league now. When are you going to realize this? -
Commander of Awesome
Browns passed for 341 yds whoopee! Close to 100 yrds of Carr's passing were due to Whitner and Gibson whiffing on arm/shoulder tackles.sleeper;1753644 wrote:Yeah those 314 passing yards and 2 passing TDs were useless. LOL

Formula to winning football games is easy:
Run the ball
Stop the run
Rush the passer
Not rocket science Sleeper. -
BR1986FB
If they keeping throwing these finesse/pass blocking O-Linemen out there who can't get them in the end zone with 1st & goal from the one, they might as well scrap the run (for the most part) and just chuck it.sleeper;1753644 wrote:Yeah those 314 passing yards and 2 passing TDs were useless. LOL

I'm not necessarily an "advocate" of that type of football but it's glaringly obvious they don't have the O-Line to be the "get your nose bloody" type of team that Pettine described last year. -
SportsAndLady
You're fucking delusional dude. Pretty much everyone has said how great Carr has looked this year, and that he looks to be their franchise QB. Stop trying to be the 2000's Ravens. It's 2015, you need a good QB to win. We don't have one, so we aren't going to win until we get one.Commander of Awesome;1753646 wrote:Browns passed for 341 yds whoopee! Yeah..lets keep running McCown out there. LO effin L. Manziel would have had 4 touchdown passes and 450 yards passing yesterday with all the open receivers deep that McCown missed. Do you actually watch the games?sleeper;1753643 wrote:Sorry but no. The only reason you play Manziel is that he can give you an extra loss or two at the end of the season over McCown. Pettine is a fuggin joke. Every other team in the league plays their top drafted quarterback...except this asshole that coaches the Browns. -
BR1986FB
They do need a legit QB but they also need to be better off, overall defensively. In the offseason all we heard was this "top 3 secondary" and "top 5 O-Line" and they look like complete shit. Haden is supposed to be a "stud" but every time he faces a smaller WR with a nice double move (Antonio Brown, Cooper yesterday), he shits down his leg.SportsAndLady;1753654 wrote:You're fucking delusional dude. This team has a few nice pieces but overall, it's a shitshow and it starts with Ray Farmer. The sooner that clown is out of here, the better. Let him "consult" on later round draft picks and UDFA's but don't let his ass near the war room when they are drafting 1st rounders.
I've been beating this "we need a QB" drum, like you, much more recently now and it's a major reason for my "depression" towards this franchise but after watching this game and the Jets game, they need a helluva lot more than just a QB. -

We already have a "good quarterback" and a franchise quarterback. We have a dumbfuck head coach that won't play him.SportsAndLady;1753654 wrote:You're fucking delusional dude. Never once said you don't need a good qb to win. Not once. Even with a good qb, you need a running game to support the pass (see pats, steelers, Seahawks, hell any good team). They all have strong running games.SportsAndLady;1753654 wrote:You're fucking delusional dude. Qbs best friend? A running game. Best defenses in the league? They stop the run. You have to be able to do that to win consistently in the NFL. Stop being a drama queen and putting words in my mouth.
