did the cavs not have a big time trade exception when LBJ left? i seem to recall them doing nothing with it. can someone explain why this time is different?

Because they went in to full on tank mode, no need to try and make the team better.

Just this past year the Rockets were able to acquire Corey Brewer for pretty much nothing (Protected 2nd round pick)

Cavs most likely won't land a star player, but should be able to land a serviceable rotation piece (Nick Young/Kevin Martin, etc.) or facilitate a big trade for someone else and in return pick up multiple 1st round picks.

the second option doesn't sound too plausible. I've never known the cavs to focus anything on the draft while they have LBJ on contract.

It's actually what we did this year to get Mozzie. Picked up a 1st round pick from OKC, turned around and shipped it to Denver, along with using a TPE to absorb his contract.

I could see us doing the same. Using any picks we may receive turning them around and picking up a veteran.

I do agree though, I don't see us relying too much on the draft, unless we lucked in to a lottery pick.

but you can't do that now. you don't have any contracts to ship with the picks you will get by trading the exception.

Also, when the schedule comes out, I hope the NBA doesn't spread the cavs first couple games in the span of what felt like a month. They then followed it by cramming the cavs schedule with a bunch of back to backs and limited rest.

I think LA had played 10 games before the Cavs played 6. It was really weird.

Yeah, it really didn't make sense to me. Maybe they were trying to maximize the national exposure for the Cavs since Lebron returned, but it was still bullshit how many games they crammed in after the first month.

I noticed that too. Very bizarre.

Sounds like JR Smith turned down an offer from the Sixers and continues to push the Cavs for a deal.

Cavs don't need JR. I'd low ball the hell out of him and see how badly he wants to be there.

The J.R. Smith of 3 years ago would've taken the most money on the worst team so he could "get his." Now that he's made a shit load of money in his career, he wants to ride LeBron to a few rings. Dude has made over 40M before he turned 30, and is a role player/6th man type. Not a starter on a good team.

Can't say I wouldn't do the same as a player, but if I'm a team, I certainly don't cave. Offer him the veteran minimum.

Agreed. Give him a reasonable tiny contract as he's essentially the 7-8th option on the team. He would be nice to have but he is expendable and the Cavs should not over pay for him.

    Now TT, get him back!

When does the NBA schedule get released? I feel like it's normally in the first week of August... but here we are still waiting...

    Welp... Adios TT
  • SportsAndLady
I'll personally buy TT's plane ticket out of town if he's turning down $80 million.

No fucking way do you give $94 million to a non-offensive threat.

    This...
  • Dr. KnOiTaLL
It's pretty incredible how long this has dragged out. LeBron needs to get in TT's ear and say, "bro, take the $80M and ride my coattails with no pressure. In the meantime, let's go grab a couple rings..."

TT posted on Twitter... and now getting lambasted about the contract situation :RpS_lol:

He should. He can't seriously think he is worth more than Kyrie.

Oh, I agree... I absolutely love it. Someone is instructing him horribly.

Yup he's a player I want but $80M is more than generous. He's not a max player.

TT is climbing my shit list. at this point I'd put him in a sign and trade for a good 2 guard and some bench help. fucking clown.
