DGB is the last player I want to spend an early round on after the way Gordon has let us down.

Honestly I'd be ok with it is we got rivers. Rivers may have a loud mouth but he really keeps his teammates in check. But I do agree with you it is a big risk to take with him

Yeah, Rivers would change our draft strategy a lot. With our current players I'd rather take someone safer unless he starts to fall.

Heard that a number of years ago I think from Herm Edwards....saying that the closer you get to the draft teams let misinformation 'leak' out to try and possibly get more from someone else and a myriad of other reasons.

I dont think anyone takes Rivers in a trade unless they fell they are in a WIN NOW situation with all the other pieces in place and a short window, and missing only a QB.
I dont see Tennessee or Cleveland fitting that mold.

I can't think of any team in "win now" mode without a QB, besides the Jets. If Rivers is traded it will be to a team on the cusp, which arguably out of the names I've heard (Ten, Oak, TB) the Browns are closer to competing than any of those teams.

I agree. Just saying that the only time I would think it would be OK to trade for a 33 yr old QB, with one year remaining on his deal, would be if that was the missing piece.
I think all these rumors are just put out there to get some other teams to bite.

That's what I was thinking too. The Browns are pretty similar to the Chiefs from 2012. The Chiefs went 2-14 but they sent 6 guys to the Pro Bowl on the strength of their defense. They got a coach and an average* game-manager QB the next off-season and won 11 games.

*average would be an upgrade for the Browns. Smith finished 21st (-3.7% DVOA) and 19th (4.1% DVOA) in 2013 and 2014 respectively. Brian Hoyer (with Jason Campbell in 2013) finished 29th (-11% DVOA) and 26th (-5.3% DVOA) over those same years.

Why I dont think we take a WR in the first:

Factor in Farmer’s idea of what Dwayne Bowe has left. On Jan. 4, 2014, eight catches for 150 yards in a 45-44 playoff loss at Indy.

They don't need a WR in the first. Getting a flashy WR without a QB to throw them the ball is like having a Ferrari with no gas, nonfunctional.

Aj green helped out dalton a lot. It does help to have playmakers, a lot.

You definitely need receiving weapons. I'm all for taking a wr in the first round but it has to be a no brainer. No reaches.

True but those AJ Green types aren't in every draft.

If there was an AJ Green type in this draft, I'd be all for it. Then again, an AJ Green type wouldn't be falling to #12.

    BINGO.

We'd be looking at the louisville guy who never had 1000 yrs in College WITH TBW throwing to him. No thanks. You'd have to be durkie dumb to want him.

Yeah, if they're going to burn a 1st on WR, I'd want the best in the draft, not the third best. If I have to choose between the 3rd best WR at 12 and the best run stuffing NT, compared to Haloti Ngata (Shelton), I'm going BPA (Shelton).

I'd go best nt over a WR 90% of the time. Ngata > Green.

Agreed and never said they are. Just that first round receivers do help out a lot.

Have I said I wanted him? Nope. "Lolfail"

    Stop the run

Neither Sb team had a 1st round WR. Which is interesting. They both had stud first round dline/oline players.

    Tom Brady
    Russell Wilson

Once again, you might call us dumb for our Browns thoughts, but you tend to come across as having tunnel vision. We get it. Super bowl teams had good lines. They also had great qbs, great coaching and great schemes. Those all factor into it. Not just "them stopping the run" so instead of mindlessly saying the same shit over and over, try and add a little to the convo besides "stop the run"

I agree with you lines are important, but if there isn't a draftable lineman at our picks, you don't reach. You go BPA and get two starters out of our first round picks.

Honest question, would you move up to picks 1-3 to draft Leonard Williams? Because I feel like you would.

    No I wouldn't for a few reasons.

    1. I hate trading up, I want more picks not less.
    2. I think Williams is a great player, but not watt level. I think Shelton/brown/Goldman are better 0 to 3 tech (NT) than Williams. He's not a legit pass rusher like Suh was for example thus not worth the investment to move up. Great player, but I'd rather have Shelton and he can be had without throwing picks away.

What pick was Odell Beckham JR? The same fucking pick (12) that we have now. Just because there isn't a "guaranteed top 5 pick" talent at the WR position doesn't mean they can't be found in the first round.

And Beckham had two seasons under 1,000 yards at LSU and his junior season had 1,100 yards. Not exactly lighting it up.

If you think Adams will have a huge impact fucking take him and let's build some offensive weapons. Not personally saying Adams does, but if the Browns FO thinks he's a stud, then take him.

Odell also fell to 12 because he was in a draft with Mike Evans and Sammy Watkins, a similar situation that Parker will face this year with Cooper and White but I don't think Parker is the same level of prospect Odell was. The casual fan might not have known Odell but NFL scouts raved about him.

I don't know when we'll take a WR, or who it will be, I just hope that it won't be a waste of value.
