2015 Browns Offseason Thread

BR1986FBI didn't want to start a new thread just for this but I figured at least COA would enjoy it due to the ESPN hatred.....this isn't Browns or even football related

I would say manning up and going to rehab and admitting you have a problem means you are maturing.Commander of Awesome;1721990 wrote:I haven't read any accounts on jff other than he's in rehab/out of rehab. Gilbert I've heard was a maturity issue, and he's been working out with haden in the off season.
Anyone else think pettine is going to have that big second year jump? It's kind of weird having the same front office and coaching staff two years in a row -

Define "big second year jump?" If you mean in wins, no. If you mean by how he manages a game, yes.DeyDurkie5;1722088 wrote: Anyone else think pettine is going to have that big second year jump? It's kind of weird having the same front office and coaching staff two years in a row -

Wins, game management, the whole shabang.BR1986FB;1722090 wrote:Define "big second year jump?" If you mean in wins, no. If you mean by how he manages a game, yes. -

I don't see a jump in wins when they over achieved last season as long as McCown is QB. Only way it happens is if JFF is behind center and he is everything anyone hoped he could be.DeyDurkie5;1722108 wrote:Wins, game management, the whole shabang. -

I think they definitely get above 7 wins.Pick6;1722109 wrote:I don't see a jump in wins when they over achieved last season as long as McCown is QB. Only way it happens is if JFF is behind center and he is everything anyone hoped he could be. -

Which one of last season's 7 wins was a sign of over-achieving? I don't think we over-achieved at all; 7 wins could have been reasonably expected if you were assured that Pettine would be a competent coach, which was the biggest question mark.Pick6;1722109 wrote:I don't see a jump in wins when they over achieved last season as long as McCown is QB.
I'm expecting at least 7 wins this year. -

Don't fucking punt to the colts there's 1 more win. Don't run the same fucking running play over and over against the bills, or play gilbert 1st game against steelers that's 2 more winslhslep134;1722116 wrote:Which one of last season's 7 wins was a sign of over-achieving? MulvaI can't see more than 5 wins if McCown is the QB.

Cinci and Pitt come to mind. I also don't think many expected Atlants and New Orleans to be as bad as they were. Pat McManamon predicted what he said was a "generous" 6 wins, and other ESPN writers predicted a 1 win season. They definitely blew some games which is par for the course, but in the aggregate they won more than most expected.lhslep134;1722116 wrote:Which one of last season's 7 wins was a sign of over-achieving? There are only two ways I see them getting to 7: McCown lights it up like he did with Chicago a few years ago or JFF balls out. Both are most likely long shots. -

Yeah, because the dumbass media that throws shit on the wall predicted the browns to be horrible (really did a lot of research there!) means the browns overachieved. If you are holding the NFC South against the Browns, you might as well say all of the AFCN over achieved (which could be a legitimate argument considering their performance in the playoffs). As for the Steelers and Cinci, if the browns didn't shit down their legs the first half of week 1 we would have seen two blow outs against pittsburgh in our favor, and cinci we have split with them the past 3 years. If the Browns don't lose Mack, then they might possibly overachieve with a 9-7 record, but 7-9 definitely was not overachieving.Pick6;1722130 wrote:Cinci and Pitt come to mind. And my point is we got to 7 with Hoyer's below league average quarterbacking (-5.3% DVOA, ranked 26th). We don't need above average quarterbacking, i.e. McCown lighting it up or JFF balling out, to win 7 games.Pick6;1722130 wrote:

We'd have more wins with no QB than with mccown.Mulva;1722127 wrote:I can't see more than 5 wins if McCown is the QB. -

That makes sense except Gurley at #19, if it said OL there it would appear plausible.HighRoller74;1722110 wrote:Kiper did a 3rd mock today.

like_thatI would be happy with that draft if you replace Gurley with somebody else. Preferably a tackle.

Lovejoy1984
FWIW, he said he went BPA instead of reaching for a prospect. And also FWIW, McShay called taking Gurley at 19, the worst pick in all 3 rounds that Kiper did.like_that;1722161 wrote:I would be happy with that draft if you replace Gurley with somebody else. Preferably a tackle. -

Agreed. I'd rather play defense for 60 minutes.Commander of Awesome;1722149 wrote:We'd have more wins with no QB than with mccown. -

Mccown puts their team in better scoring position. He's going backwards or turning it overMulva;1722165 wrote:Agreed. I'd rather play defense for 60 minutes. -

Perhaps against last years schedule. I think Mulva's five wins is generous if McCown is the QB. I predicted 3 a few months back and I'll stick with that until I see what shakes out at QB. If they land a stud QB, that 3 could go to 9, or so.lhslep134;1722133 wrote:And my point is we got to 7 with Hoyer's below league average quarterbacking (-5.3% DVOA, ranked 26th). SportsAndLadyThis team has a decent amount of talent. Not enough, without a good QB, to make the playoffs, but enough talent to win more than 3 fucking games.
6 wins MINIMUM with a ceiling of 10. Thinking we'll go 7-9 again. -

Could very well be but I don't take a lot of stock in those things. Most times they are written by a spokesperson for the player. I'm not singling out Manziel with that comment as it seems it happens with many players when they come out with a statement.Pick6;1722256 wrote:Looks like some maturing to me

I read this as "I realize I was terrible my first year, please don't cut me because I had personal problems that impeded my on the football field ability".Pick6;1722256 wrote:Looks like some maturing to me
Basically, I'm still on the cut Manziel before it's too late train. -
