2015 Browns Offseason Thread

There is a basement you have to spend. Think it is like 89% of the cap over a 4 year period of 2013-2016.se-alum;1705274 wrote:Haslam says the Browns won't be big spenders in FA. Don't we have to spend most of the cap money? -
thavoice"The key going forward is the floor more than the cap. The final eight years of the CBA are broken into four-year periods (2013-'16, 2017-'20) during which teams are required to spend up to 89 percent of the cap, with a guaranteed league-wide spend of 95 percent. If the individual clubs or league fail to hit those thresholds, the league/clubs pay the difference to the players."

This. I might take either Mariota or Winston at 19 if they were available( they won't be).....but I want as many bodies as possible with the early round picks.sleeper;1705266 wrote:Neither Winston or Mariota is worth trading up for or drafting in the 1st round. I'd prefer to not draft a known rapist either, so Mariota or bust for me but only in the second round. I don't think this crop of QBs this year contains anything worth a first round pick. -

I agree Winston is more ready currently no doubt. But in two years I would rather have Mariotase-alum;1705263 wrote:I think Mariota will eventually be a good NFL QB, but it will take some time. Winston is definitely more ready right now to start on an NFL team, and it isn't even close. -

Crimson streakOne thing people under estimate about Winston is he is a hell of a leader. He might be a douche pos but his teammates loved him and played hard for him. I hate the guy but I truly think Winston will be a pretty damn good qb if his off the field issues don't catch up to him.

I don't see Mariota ever being better than Winston, as far as football goes. By all accounts Winston is a hard worker and has a good football IQ. If he stays out of trouble, I think he will be very good. The kid wins. If it weren't for his teammates fumbling all those times in the Rose Bowl, his numbers would've been incredible in that game. They were still as good as Mariota's. Winston was let down by his teammates.Classyposter58;1705317 wrote:I agree Winston is more ready currently no doubt. BIG if....huge red flags in his character....also doesn't seem to be the brightest guy out there.se-alum;1705333 wrote:I don't see Mariota ever being better than Winston, as far as football goes. After the Manziel debacle, do not think he is worth the draft pick. -

I disagree that he's not worth the pick as a football player. But he's not worth the pick as an asset since we just wasted our 1st on one last year.wkfan;1706335 wrote:

Winston has a work ethic, Manziel doesn't. -
lhslep134It doesn't matter though, all indications are he's going to go #1 to TB.

You don't get offers from Stanford if you're dumb. He's immature, not stupid. It's been documented that Winston has a very high football IQ, and George Whitfield has compared him to Andrew Luck in that capacity.wkfan;1706335 wrote:BIG if....huge red flags in his character....also doesn't seem to be the brightest guy out there.

bases_loadedGeorge Whitfield, the guy who was waving brooms at Johnny football?

Laley23May have misread, but think the bottom line on ESPN just said Pettine is looking for starting QB in FA or Draft.
-
lhslep134I'm just going to put this here. This is the guy's only tweet and it's from 8 days ago. I have no comment.

Pick6I don't get it.

Laley23Neither do I.
-
lhslep134Possible leaked logo? I doubt it is but I have no idea what that logo is. When you combine that with the fact the guy directed the tweet at the Browns, I simply have no explanation.
