2015 Browns Offseason Thread

    That all sounds about right.

Here is a post from you a month ago when the news broke; you didn't overreact, you handled it like a normal person.

I realize that upper management needs to keep their noses out of the playcalling but wouldn't this make Shanahan a tad "toxic?" If Shanahan was the snitch, who is going to want to hire a rat?

If he goes into an interview and they ask him "why did you leave Cleveland?" and he replies "because the QB was forced on me and then the owner texted me plays he wanted to run from the pressbox", what kind of owner is going to want this? If he's a snitch when he leaves Cleveland, he'd be a snitch if he leaves Seattle, Tampa, Chicago, etc.
This is from you today regarding the same transgression.

Is this franchise EVER going to get it's shit together? Just when you think they can't do something MORE stupid, whether it's a player, owner, etc, they "out stupid" themselves.

So a month ago it wasn't a big deal but now the Browns are "such a clusterfuck"? What's with the doom and gloom attitude change?

If there was ANY doubt that you aren't acting like a QQ'ing little bitch, there's not anymore.
  • BR1986FB
Things change over time. What kind of front office, besides Jerry Jones, is texting plays down to the sidelines? It's just dysfunctional. And the fact that they could lose a draft pick over this doesn't stink of clusterfuck? You don't see other teams pulling this "Three Stooges" shit on a regualr basis. This team needs all of the talent it can get.

And I'm glad to see you feel that it's acceptable that the organization is a Class A fuckup.

Falcons cheat, Patriots cheat, Pats cheat and no one including NFL, GAF. Browns cheat by texting, lose draft pick, fine, suspension and now a clusterfuck. Lovely.

The pats thing was over the news for weeks so yeah, people give a fuck. The NFL will announce all three punishments fairly soon. They werent going to do it during the super bowl weeks.

BR I didn't give my opinion on the subject.

I asked why you went from normal to doom and gloom QQ'ing. You still didn't really give an explanation. Your response doesn't really hold water considering I showed two posts from you on the same exact topic on completely different ends of the spectrum.

The GM texted the OC...what a clusterfuck!!!

Calm down guys. Browns will be in the playoffs next year and this won't be talked about.

Good luck, I am still waiting on how the 08 and 09 Browns were better off than this team.

It's ALL good! Owner who likes to meddle, GM who looks like he missed on his first two 1st round draft picks, same GM may get suspended while LOSING valuable draft picks, QB in rehab (still have no clue who the QB will be) and a stud WR, who is an addict, yet refuses to admit it, suspended AGAIN. Everything is sunshine & ponies in C-Town!
  • Commander of Awesome
BR, its too early to call a miss on Gilbert and JFF. JFF has already been proven to be a haslem pick (IE Not farmer's fault. He was a bigger fan of Bridgewater). Gilbert, wait and see. CB is a hard position to transition to in the NFL, I'm a believer in him being a contributor. Please just go post in Iqqy's thread. Thanks.

Never said its all sunshine, but still waiting on an explanation how 08 and 09 was better. Keep avoiding the question though.

BR has gone full retard lately.

Guess the old timers (fw, iggy, BR) just can't hang anymore.

No. The "old timers" are used to the Cleveland Browns being a respectable franchise, not this shitshow we've been watching since 1999.

And in the last two months you've just lost it?

Personnel-wise, Mangini should've never been handed the keys to the "car", just like Butch Davis. If those two would've stayed out of the personnel decisions, the Browns wouldn't be in this mess. Those were the two best HC's this franchise has had since returning. I'm sure COA will come back with his "derp Womangini" quote but any coach who can beat New England & New Orleans with that crappy QB couldn't be all that bad. The 2nd round (MoMass/Robiskie/Veikune) killed that draft.

This has been building up for awhile. You younger cats may think that what the Browns ownership and their players are doing is "standard NFL procedure" but it's not. They're a joke. An embarrassment. You can say "but 7-9" all you want but that was a shitty 7-9. They are trending downward, after a 7-4 start....back to their old ways. The cupboards not bare but with this ownership/no QB to speak of, I'm not overly enthused.

Yeah, you see other teams do stupid shit but more times than not, it's the Browns. Frankly, I wouldn't be stunned if a Mexican donkey show video surfaced of Haslam & Farmer on their "retreat" at this point. Nothing shocks me with this group anymore.

The Browns used to be a PROUD franchise. Now they're just the butt of NFL jokes.

I'm gonna stick up for BR here.....it's easy to get frustrated watching the Browns....getting your hopes up only to have them dashed. Lately it just seems, on the surface anyway, that the more things change, the more they stay the same. Here we are a year later, and we are back in the same situation we were last year. It's easy to get discouraged and to just lash out, even irrationally. I think the old guys, which includes me, are partiicularly vulnerable to this. We have spent a lifetime, rooting, hoping, praying, that one day our favorite team would get into the Super Bowl(let alone win)....and we remember when we were so close...3 AFC championship games....only to be denied by John Elway.

Christ, and that was 25-30 years ago.

So, I'm not going to beat up BR for something he said a month or two ago. The hits just keep on coming to the organization and it's fans. A lot has happened since we were sitting 6-3, just 2 months ago.

I can't tell if you are saying it was better at that time or not. If you are saying its better with Womangini as a coach then I disagree. The browns threw away their draft picks in 08 and 09 was even worse. How many players do we even have from those 2 drafts? Hell how many players do we even have from those rosters any more? I would not be surprised if it was less than 5 (jt, mack, and I can't think of anyone else). We had a bunch of young guys who are no longer in the NFL, or who are very close to being out of the league. You don't simply overcome that type of turnover in a couple years. Even with Gordon being a dumbfuck and possibly losing Cameron, this team has by far the best talent this franchise has seen since it has become a franchise. That includes our one playoff season (0 pro bowlers), and 2007. To pretend this team is worse off than they were in 08/09 is just a joke and a complete overreaction. You have had enough of the losing and BS off season headlines, I get it. We all do, but at least use your damn head. Hell, if we are basing this on coaches alone, I don't think you could tell anyone with a straight face you were more excited with Shurmur than you are Pettine.

David Bowens having 2 miraculous bone head plays by Drew Brees and Hodges running for 60+ on a trick play are the ONLY reason we beat NO that year. Womangini is the same pinhead that refused to let Harrsion play, even though Lewis was pulling a truck out there with him. Took an injury to put that dead dog down.

    More Mangini: http://www.clevescene.com/cleveland/manginis-mess-sent-to-save-the-cleveland-browns-eric-mangini-instead-put-on-a-clinic-on-how-to-drive-a-teams-morale-into-the-ground/Content?oid=3625467

You trying to bring up mangini as the best HC the browns have had is like arguing he's the tallest midget at the midget convention. WGAF? A cleveland radio host must have said he was the best, since you get all your talking points from those hacks. Maybe it was your conversation with the blithering idiot on 92.3 after you "won big" playing the slots! Which you always do! Must be the most lucky person on the planet earth!
  • Commander of Awesome
Why in the fuck are we talking about Erica Fucking Womangini anyways? God fucking damn it. FA and draft can't come soon enough.

One thing I will say about the situation with the Browns and text gate.

The Browns have been proud of the fact that they are cooperarating fully with the NFL. I suggest they don't be so cooperative. History has shown what happens when you cooperate with a POS organization...you get F****ed up the A**(see Ohio State and Penn State vs. Auburn) and the NCAA.

I get that. I addressed that in my response. WE ARE ALL sick of the bullshit, but sometimes you need to be called out on your logic. He said this is the most pessimistic he is about the Browns in his entire life. If he said that the last 10 years have just brought this down, then that would make sense, but he is making the 2015 team out to be the worst team since their return without even a draft class and thinking about how irrational that comment it. We all say irrational shit as cleveland fans (hell, I'm sure you can find a couple posts i regret about the cavs), but i am ok with admitting how irrational it was. Br is just working the spin machine here.

Also, I am sorry, but save me the sob story. At least you guys have seen consistent winning football in your lives. You guys stay loyal, because of the tradition that you once knew. Most of us were born as fucking Browns fans, because of fathers like you and we have had nothing but misery. So let's not play this old timers' pain vs younger guys' pain game.
