Wait, on Tiernan's thread, he said you guys were getting Martz. Are you trying to say that he is wrong on this? My heart may stop from the shock of it all!

Martz in cleveland would be disaster. Worked good in SL where he was in a dome and further south with his division foes, but I think Cleveland needs to be able to run the ball especially late in the season when the weather gets rougher. Martz doesnt commit enough to it.

What use is cap space if you aren't going to use it to sign good players?

They do have around 30 million in cap space, about the highest in the league.
Have to spend it on someone.
As much as a dick Suh is on the field he is an absolute beat on the DL and gives you pass rush ability from a spot ya dont see it often. S
Seems like we have been saying that for a few seasons now that they have a ton of space to sign guys.

There is a rule that started in the latest CBA about a 3 years rolling average that a team must spend, sort of like a salary basement, and that is 89% of the salary cap. Not sure wha that means with teh browns and how they will/must spend but it could mean a bigger up front payment for some FA's.

I don't want to over paid Def FAs taking up 25% of our overall cap space. That's not a recipe for success. Would like to have those players for sure, but have to be smart about it.

Heard another report out of Oakland that the Browns are hiring DeFilippo.

Adam Caplan ✔ @caplannfl Follow Countless coaches, execs who have worked with DeFilippo have raved about him. Think hire is a home-run for Browns.

Love the hire. Very happy with that move.

I think the Browns cap figure is closer to $55 million.

It may be, I looked and saw around the figure I mentioned but the fact still remains...they have a shit ton of $$$ to spend. I am not sure how close they are to taht 89% floor they need to meet but I am sure that would be easy to get to if they sign someone big and front load the deal.

I see they are in discussions to resign Hoyer. For as sad as it may sound and how mediocre he was, he may be the best option for 2015. And this may sound even sadder but if they were to go the free agent QB route, I wouldn't have a problem with them kicking the tires on Mark Sanchez as a stopgap. He's probably the best FA QB available and has success in a "run first/game manager" role.

Probably wont be much of a deal and you need QB's on the squad so it probably is a good move. Think teams go into camp with 4 QBs on their roster. Very beneficial to have at least one with NFL experience ya would think! Shaw isnt the answer. Manziel the jury is out but is far from proving he belongs so yeah, they need to sign him. His late season falter help the browns keep him for much less.

I would say Pettine forced him to party and drink as part of his master plan to sabotage him.

Kyle and Loggins intentionally called shitty plays and didn't prep him properly to sabotage his rookie year. Duh!

I don't think Manziel was the worst pick since the return, but top 10.

    1) Courtney Brown #1
    2) Trent Richardson #3
    3) Gerard Warren #3
    4) William Green #16
    5) Justin Glibert #8
    6) Brian Robiskie 2nd
    7) David Veikune 2nd
    8) Johnny Manziel #22
    9) Braylon Edwards #3
    10) Greg Little 2nd

Trent shouldn't be 2 because we at least got another first for him

Although that first went to get manziel so maybe it did suck..
  • SportsAndLady
And really? Justin Gilbert at 5? After his rookie season?

Dude showed promise and made some big plays. He's probably not even a top 50 worst draft pick.

I am pretty sure that trade ranks in the top 5 worst colts trades of time, only if they did not trade Elway's rights, Marshall Faulk.

That's fair, I might be overreacting.

Gilbert doesn't belong on the list. Very few rookie CB's are successful in their first year.
