2015 Browns Offseason Thread

Shelton is the man. I wanted him a month or so before the Draft when he brought up Cleveland and how it would be a great fit for him. That was before he was even linked to Cleveland mainly because he was projected to be one of the first few players taken.

I'm skeptical of Pryor and his catching. We had so many WR's drop big passes last year, if he comes out and drops wide open looks I'm going to be annoyed.

Observations from DPN from the first week of TC....

The Manziel stuff is encouraging, not because he's looking better but because he's stringing these solid outings together instead of having relapses. He just needs to keep getting better each practice and learn the system.

What I found most interesting was the comment at the bottom about Hartline. If he can't make THIS receiving corps, he's done.

From what I've read, his hands are good, it's the route running and separation that are lacking.

Eh I'm not buying into the Hartline chopping block stuff yet. It's 1 wk in, if he's still sucking WK3 of the preseason I'll start to believe it. Also, keep in mind this team kept Miles Austin over Charles Johnson last yr, they like mediocre vet WRs.

    He's still 6'5" and 4.4 40 fast.

If it comes down to it, put Pryor in motion to avoid the press coverage for the first five yards.

Also made of paper. He will get roughed up too much.

Besides getting off the line, THIS is where the rubber will meet the road. How will he react when he goes across the middle and is about to get hammered? Does he lay out or get gator arms?

You should already know the answer if you watched him at all at Ohio State. He avoids contact like the plague.

    He was the QB......

Sure he was the QB. I don't see how that changes anything; he avoids contact and he won't be able to do that as a WR.
  • BR1986FB
He's a longshot to make the team as a WR but it would be a great story. I read somewhere that there's only been one player in the history of the NFL to successfully make the transition from QB to WR and that was a long time ago. Pryor does have the advantage of athleticism on his side.

QBs are not taught to seek contact at any level except the QBs at GaTech, Army, Navy, AF.

Also, why is avoiding contact a bad thing? If it keeps him healthier all season, I'm all for it. Chad Johnson, Marvin Harrison, etc... made a career by avoiding contact. What does sleeper want? Pryor lowering his shoulder on every defender? LOL

Did he really avoid contact THAT much? I can only recall the one time he ran out of bounds 2-3 yards before the first down. I remember the was a lot of backlash.

Dumb question that I was thinking about this morning.....is there any chance that Josh Gordon could have his suspension reduced (let's say to 10 games again) for "good behavior?" I really don't know the rules of the new CBA. I'm assuming it's set in stone.

If we cut him and he goes to the Steelers hes reinstated immediately

And he is "awarded" 4 TD receptions in his first game?

I don't think so. He needs "good behavior" to be reinstated in general as he has been suspended indefinitely.

Was kind of surprised to get a notification that Mountaineer Casino is going to have a "Cleveland Legends Night" on Friday 8/14. They will have Metcalf, Felix Wright, Kevin Mack & Hanford as their special guests. With the fact that Newell, WV is a stones throw away from Pittsburgh, it's interesting that they will be bringing in Browns since that area is an infestation of Yinzers.

Thoughts on the D-Line rotation this year? Is Solomon going to start opposite of Kruger? Who will be our DT's in the rotation (we have good vets and we have some good rookies/new guys)?

Unless Soloman gets hurt, he'll start. He's a Pettine "type" who is very solid at run stopping.

    What's a Pettine type?

We thought we had good dline depth last yr, turns out we didn't. We need Shelton to be a force, PT to stay healthy. I'm glad we invest a couple of picks in dline, hoping Hughes can earn his contract ext as well.
