And the Oakland A's have officially became the team to beat as if they weren't already

And huge move by Shark and Hammel to get away from the Cubs. Especially the former --- he can now learn what it is like to be a winner now that he's out of that organization.

I am familiar with Russell and Straily, so three very high prospects make this trade very interesting on both sides.

EE went down as he beat out a DP....did not look good. Might not be part of the ASG

    Bronson needs Tommy John surgery.

I'm assuming it will end his career. Sucks for him.

That stinks. I have a good friend who is a big Reds fan and he loved Arroyo during his time there, from the way his breaking ball could just drop off the map to his "so bad they're hilarious" JTM commercials.

And the fact he could be counted on to make every single start and be a perfectly good mid-rotation innings-eating starter probably didn't hurt, either.

Some negs to Nationals fans and props to Orioles fans tonight. Probably near 15,000 Orioles fans in the crowd of 35,000. Great atmosphere no matter what happened. Nats fans had trouble keeping the Orioles quiet.

After the 9th inning (tied)....I bet it was 2/1 Orioles fans. By the 11th it was about 4/1 O's.

PNC had the better view but I liked the Nationals Park better I believe.

    AL

    East: Rays
    Central: Tigers
    West: Athletics
    Wildcard: Orioles and Royals

    NL
    East: Nationals
    Central: Cardinals
    West: Dodgers
    Wildcard: Padres and Reds
Well with the exception of the Rays and Padres I've done pretty solid with 4 correct division leaders so far. I was dogged hard for my "delusions" of the Tigers yet they have a 5.5 game lead heading into the break on their way to a 4-peat

Wow, have you seen their lineup!

Right? Their 2-5 are all hitting above .300 and the lead off guy is hitting .289 with 23 steals

Jeter went 2-for-4 in Thursday's 9-3 loss to the Indians, registering the 1,000th multihit game of his career. Jeter is the sixth player in Major League history to do so, joining Ty Cobb (1,293), Pete Rose (1,225), Tris Speaker (1,059), Stan Musial (1,059) and Hank Aaron (1,046).

Some pretty good company! This got me to doing some figuring: PA/G -- H/PA -- multi hit games per game played

    Cobb 4.31 / 0.320 / 0.426
    Rose 4.46 / 0.268 / 0.344
    Speaker 4.30 / 0.293 / 0.380
    Musial 4.20 / 0.285 / 0.350
    Aaron 4.23 / 0.270 / 0.317
    Jeter 4.56 / 0.278 / 0.373

Jeter and Rose benefactors of the line-up turning over more often and probably also seeing better pitches to hit with the strength of the line-up, especially with the DH working for Jeter.

I figure Jeter got 80 to 90 more multi hit games due to his higher plate appearances than the average of the other 5.

I heard that he was sixth and thought Boggs and Gwynn would also be above 1000.

    Paul Molitor 967
    Tony Gwynn 951
    Paul Waner 939
    Eddie Murray 934
    Willie Mays 922
    Carl Yastrzemski 911
    George Brett 903
    Rod Carew 896
    Wade Boggs 885

Just more data that shows Pete Rose shouldn't be a first ballot HOFer because he had so many plate appearances.

Tragic stuff for the Brewers....Jean Segura's 9 month old son passed away. Not sure if he had been sick or what but Segura has struggled mightily this year.
  • Ironman92
Great distance and accuracy.....had he baserunner not been dogging it could've been even better.

    Thanks for the link

Madison Bumgarner has more grand slams this year than Prince Fielder has in his career.
