Azubuike24As for Simon, I'm more apt to attempting to keep him if he's willing to take mid-level money (ala Edwin Jackson, maybe slightly lower, like 4yr/28M). At age 31, he's less-coveted on the market with many other younger guys out there. Considering the production vs cost of signing Latos, Cueto, Leake and Simon, he might make the most sense if you feel he can even come close to giving you what he is this year.

I'm surprised that with the wealth of offensive weapons the Tigers have that Dombrowski didn't go after him hard.thavoice;1640427 wrote:
Chapman is probably their biggest prize right now to trade.

You are assuming he can continue what he did in that first half, or at least come somewhat close.Azubuike24;1640440 wrote:As for Simon, I'm more apt to attempting to keep him if he's willing to take mid-level money (ala Edwin Jackson, maybe slightly lower, like 4yr/28M). I am not that confident he can. Even Volquez had an All-Star first half of a season and then toiled around for years. To me Simon is like trying to unload your used car when you have it running the best. You want to get rid of that thing as soon as you can before it starts to labor again. -

Not only are #Reds not buying. Other teams say they've dangled Mat Latos. Looking for big return of course
LOL. I'm not sure what to think. -

Well we know, or presume, that they will try to sign Latos or Cueto so dangling him out there isnt too surprising.Azubuike24;1640470 wrote:Jayson Stark ‏@jaysonst 14m

Yup, but their bullpen is pathetic...they better hope their starters can all go the distance. Now, if they somehow could've pried Chapman away from Cinci? I'd say Tiger fans could start booking World Series tix right now. -
KB0938The list of Pitchers that TB has had to give up in the past decade is absolutely ridiculous lol

Heck of a trade. Thing is I like Drew and Austin a lot but it's not like we gave up stars to get PriceHighRoller74;1640505 wrote:Price reportedly going to the Tigers....cue Classy. -

Soria has been awful since being traded to them. They didn't have to give up any of them. They decided to do it because they are too cheap to pay them. But yes the list of pitchers they had is ridiculous.KB0938;1640531 wrote:The list of Pitchers that TB has had to give up in the past decade is absolutely ridiculous lol -
thavoiceDidnt seem like alot of things went on at the deadline. Maybe more after guys clear waivers. In the past people didnt like the rent-a-player mentality and now some dont like the lack of movement at the deadline. Cannot have it both ways. The WC has slowed down the trades as so many teams are in it and you have less teams selling off.

I thought it was a really busy deadline. Rarely see so many major league players being traded for each other.thavoice;1640625 wrote:Didnt seem like alot of things went on at the deadline. Maybe I was wrong due to not being tapped into the media outlets to see all what happened. Guess a few big names went but didnt seem like the fury of some seasons, but I could be wrong and probably am as you and that other guy are clearly smarter than I and called me out. -
Azubuike24More "big names" went this deadline than many in recent memory.

Its not like they really have the means to hang on to them, thats more what I meant. But just off the top of my head, Kazmir, Garza, Shields, Price. Yeah, the big thing about this year is that the teams that sold (excepting the Cubs from earlier before the deadline) are looking to win sooner rather than later, so they were selling their stars for major leaguers instead of prospects.Midstate01;1640642 wrote:I thought it was a really busy deadline. Which hurt the Pirates, as they have tons of prospects, but don't have enough established talent depth yet to be competitive in what the market wound up being for guys like Lester or Price (read that Peter Gammons said that talent-wise the Pirates had a better deal for Price, but TB went with established guys instead of prospects). And of their more expendable MLB-type players, I don't think anyone would give much value at the time to either Tabata (waste of a contract) or Pedro (production down, can't make a throw from third to first without fucking up). -
Ironman92Damn...
MLB Network just cut out of the Yanks/Tigers game and showed Puig going after Pujols in pregame ( from yesterday's events).....then he goes up and hugs him and then turns around to go after Aybar but Pujols holds him back while laughing.
It looked legit
