No he's not. He's good, but not the best. Advanced metrics has him well below Revis, who is still the best IMO. His avg yds per catch is well over 7 yds, meanwhile players like Haden and Revis avg yrds per catch are under 5.

Football outsiders ranked Sherman as the 9th best CB against the pass last season FWIW.

    Damn near mediocre.

Front sevens like Seattle can make good secondaries look great. When Peyton had time, he did fine against the Seahawks secondary. Guys like Sherman look great when they only have to cover for a minimal amount of time. Don't get me wrong, he's pretty darn good though.

Oh no, he's still elite one of the best at his position. I was just trying to illustrate that just because he gets the most media attention now doesn't mean he's the best.

Oh I know....Sherman wore out the "mediocre"......

He's in my top 5 but I'm not familiar with any of the metrics....but am interested.

IMO he is the best. His ball skills are definitely the best in the game, that's what makes him so tough to throw at. He is only in his 3rd year also so he's only going to get better with his coverage skills. Hell he only started playing corner 4 years ago.

Just curious, what were the top 10? How many catches did he give up compared to Haden and Revis? Seems like it would be really hard to judge cornerbacks consistently.

To piggyback on what COA was saying, I'dd add some PFF (pro football focus) rankings:

    Coverage grades (whole year):
    Revis 10.8 (5th)
    Sherman 8.8 (6th)

    Overall grades (Whole year)
    Revis 18.2 (1st)
    Sherman 12.4 (6th)

% caught (percentage of passes caught in that player's coverage)
    Sherman 51.7% (14th)
    Revis 54% (26th)

Sherman can claim he's the best, and he's one of them, but Revis is still the gold standard at corner.

Exactly. Look at Seattle. They hit on those late round picks. Hell Sherman was a 5th rd pick and is the best corner in the game. Pretty crazy how many late rd picks they hit on.

which is exactly the reason I don't want them trading a 3rd or 4th round pick just to move up a spot in the draft.

M.F. Jones tweets predict Lombardi gone!

@CONCEDE: Whispers seem to think a major move is being discussed..... Front
office related. If you've paid attn you prob know my guess
    #Browns

@CONCEDE: Whispers think the move could happen before the
combine.... Which could explain why in the world farmer wanted to stay.
    #Browns

@CONCEDE: .@jwalt2112 that's the word in berea. Lines up with
Farmer & rumors I heard a few weeks ago about ML being on the way
    out.

@CONCEDE: Just a damn shame that Banner is protected by this "legacy
    cost" deal.... #Browns

@CONCEDE: @jsnider33 NFL is a dirty business. Very
good old boys.... Word is JB was essentially forced on JH as a part of the deal
    by the NFL

@CONCEDE: @jsnider33 This was JBs reward for a certain project
he helped carry out that saved the NFL millions. So if JH wanted the team he
    took JB 2

@CONCEDE: It also wouldn't shock me if ML isn't flat out fired
(promoted out of the way of doing damage) & farmer gets promoted.

Apparently Grossi is running with it on RBS

Not that it may not turn out to be true, but Grossi putting his stamp of approval on something doesn't peg the meter on veracity.

I don't understand why they would make this decision AFTER they hired a coach.

Who says Lombardi had anything to do with the hiring? He wasn't at the press conference...we know he wasn't in Mobile...

People always look at the early draft and think that is the end all, be all to how they did, but many times good teams are built solid later in the draft and even undrafted guys. Steelers in their hey day were drafting guys from winston salem state, ft valley state, and even undrafted guys like parker and harrison.

Takes alot of talent evaluation, and some luck. YOu never know how a guy is going to adapt and work once he gets his deal

What I remember reading was that he wasn't present for HC interviews. Could have been mistaken.

So the NFL fucked Cleveland over again with ownership and strings attached to the franchise? Go figure.
  • derek bomar
fire Banner too. If he was forced to take him so what? He took him. He can now fire him. It's his team now.
  • DeyDurkie5
    Lombardi fired. Farmer promoted. Championship.

Joe Banner is setting up Farmer for a career rape. He will only lead him to doom over his greed to be the best. He has a grudge against farmer for trying to interview with the dolphins.

I am honestly surprised how neither SE or IQQY have not found a way to spin farmers decision to turn down the dolphins and stay with the browns yet.
