    Why not? That's the question.

When no one died, the reason why to keep playing outnumber the why not. IMO

Player's leg goes through his thigh on national TV. Player gets paralyzed covering a kickoff in an NFL game. Countless other examples of devastating injuries that stop games for almost an hour. It goes on.

The only time I've ever recalled them actually stopping and postponing a game to a later day was when John McSherry died before the Reds opening day. I mean I get that one. Someone died.

The NHL postponed for Jiri Fischer too, after he collapsed during a game in cardiac arrest. Similar situation IMO

I believe the Texans finished the game after Kubiak's TIA this year, right?
  • sportchampps
    Correct,

I'm surprised the game was cancelled. Will the game restart with the bluejackets up 1-0 or will it be a fresh restart since they didn't even finish a period.
  • sportchampps
I'm only really surprised because after about 10 minutes they said he came to and was talking so if that's true I'm shocked they couldn't complete the game.

Why do people keep bringing up non NHL examples for an NHL decision? It's how they do things. There are plenty of examples where the NHL stops games due to traumatic injuries.
  • gerb131
They made the right decision imo. Too bad to the CBJ were flying.

Read a report from Dallas doctor who said the administered chest compressions and even used the defibrillator which thank god worked the first time. Dude was dead. His heart either stopped or wasn't operating enough to sustain life.

LJ there are also example of the NHL not canceling a game after a traumatic injury a couple that come to mind are the Zednik or Malarchuk injuries. You can't tell me their teammates were not affected by seeing their teammates almost bleed to death on the ice.

i think it was the right decieson if it was made by the players and not executives.

They didn't cancel it. They postponed it. This wasn't just some catastrophic injury. This was the guys heart. This was a whole different beast. They had to defib him to get him back conscience. Players from both teams were visually shaken. The NHL made the right call to call the game.

1-1 deep in the 3rd in a huge game.
  • gorocks99
3-1 jackets lead. Surprised Detroit isn't winning by 5, it was a guaranteed 2 points (or so we were led to believe)
  • gorocks99
    4-1!
  • like_that
    lol detroit.
  • gerb131
    Huge 3rd!!!
  • gorocks99
Flyers and Rags lose. Best possible results!

The Dallas game will be restarted and they will play 3 20 minute periods but the Bluejackets will start with a 1-0 lead

    I don't agree with that.

I agree. Start it 1-0 with however much time was on the clock originally.
    It's this confirmed?

    Exactly.

And if they want to start over, then start 100% over.

Yeah how is fair to a team in the playoff race that they have to play essentially an 83rd game
  • TedSheckler
There is precedent for this. It has happened in the past. It's not like it's an 83rd game. They only played 6 minutes.

Huge win tonight. Rags lose, Flyers lose, Caps lose. Jackets move to 3rd in the Metro 1 point behind the Rangers for 2nd with a game in hand.

    No. No it's not.
