White Sox at the Tribe series thread

    CLUTCH 2 out hitting!!
  • BRF
    Awesome 8th and 9th innings.
  • Dan Gilbert
Francona has been spot on with his substitutions and pitching changes. Back to back games with pinch hit wins, adding Stubbs to steal 2nd and set up the win.

Raburn and Gomes need more PT, they are doing great right now.

Sounds like Pestano got traded. ??????
  • wes_mantooth
    Optioned to the clippers
  • Con_Alma
...makes more sense. Who's taking the roster spot?
  • wes_mantooth
That lefty they just acquired from st Louis
  • Con_Alma
Got it. Thanks. Have been out of touch this evening.

Herrera's been playing with the Mahoning Valley Scrappers (Class A, short season) down here in the Y'town area. Plays mainly SS and 2nd Base, a little bit at 3rd. Hits .270 or so.

Hopefully they can fix Rzepczynski, whoseERA has ballooned to over 8.00 this year. There are there other ramifications too......Pestano has been optioned to Columbus....and Joe Martinez has been dropped from the 40 man roster and necessarily DFA'd to make room for the addition.
  • HitsRus
White Sox are a shell of a team that is being dismantled as we speak. Fire Sale....Jake Peavy to the Red Sox.
  • Ironman92
Francona pulled done good strings late

And I am right on how bad the Sox are....terrible

Indians are a pretty good watch

Unreal. Going into the season...he is the last person I would have thought would be in triple A down the stretch.

But if he can regain his form (and with relievers, that can happen at any time), he could be handy as a lefty specialist.

    is he Hagadone's twin? awesome....

No shit. Hagadone's ERA was bad. But holy hell, an ERA over 8??

And they optioned Pestano for this? I don't know if I like this one.

yeah and pestano, although struggled a bit lately, is still proven compared to Shaw, Albers or whatever RHPs are left on the roster.

    Couple of things...

Antonetti on Pestano being designed for assignment: "A lot can happen in the next 24 hours."

Also, this streak has us in the thick of everything.

The Tribe are just half a game behind the O's for the 2nd Wild Card spot. They are half a game ahead of Texas in what could be a tight race down the stretch.

Tigers send JV vs a hot Gio Gonzalez tomorrow. Even if the Tigers and the Tribe both hold serve tomorrow...the Tribe will have a chance to pickup another half game on Thursday as the Tigers are off.

  • Dan Gilbert
Cleveland is playing themselves right into a chance at the 2nd wild card.

Previously I thought it was Central division or bust.
  • Crimson streak
Peralta looks like he will be suspended since the tigers got iglaisis (sp?) in the peavy deal.

How the fuck do teams like the Red Sox, Yankees, and Tigers constantly have talent available for trades, while the Tribe has been terrible for 5 years and doesn't have any depth in the farm system to pull off one?

Same reason Lakers can get Gasol/Howard/CP3 (trololol) and Celtics can get KG, and Ray Allen for Al Jefferson and a 5th pick in the draft.

Those are fixed ripoff trades. These trades involve high end prospects every year at the end of July.

We have them. We just aren't willing to spend them. The Red Sox traded a major league ready SS in this deal who is a ++ defender and hitting .330 in 68 games in the bigs this year. The Tigers traded Garcia...a 22 year old who has spend time in the bigs the last two years. Very high potential guy.

We were not willing to part with Chisenhall, Cabrera or top prospects. Which I am fine with. The Red Sox mortgaged thier future SS in this deal.

Yeah, I read on MLBTradeRumors that for one potential trade (I think middle reliever Lopez from the Giants, but can't remember), the other team asked for Salazar. The talks pretty much ended there. As they should. Trading possibly your top pitching prospect to rent a lefty specialist middle reliever is just hilarious.
