    RE: Tiger's trade.

My bad....Tiger's also give up a PTBNL in Sept. which pushes up the cost. Still a good deal for the Kitties as Benoit is free agent next year....Veras has a club option. For now anyway, Benoit remains the closer, but I wouldn't be surprised to see the roles switched by the end of the year.

Streaky, streaky team. When they are on a roll they find ways to win...even when they make mistakes.

Consitency has to be there goal.

If I ever have another baby, his name will be Jason Giambi Mantooth.

Call of Giambi at the 50 second mark... http://www.wtam.com/player/?mid=23517505. Great pinch hit and won for the Tribe. Love relevant baseball going into August

Closer. Reliever. Whatever. The guy was still the #4 prospect, no matter the level (also, a ptbnl).

Is Lindor just a AA prospect? No. So that thinking is flawed.

Also I wouldn't doubt he is the 7th/8th inning man with Benoit staying as the closer

Random, but I stumbled on to this today. So much about this that I love....the call, hearing Herb again and seeing Albert locked in. And of course...a great crowd at the Jake.

Man I loved that team, and those crowds

Another 4 game set looms around the corner at home with the team up north.

Agree with all of this. This is the first year Veras has been a closer, as he's spent most of his career as a solid 7th/8th inning guy. And the team that had him as their closer just happened to be the (by a good bit, now) worst team in baseball. He did solid in the role and could be that for the Tigers if necessary, but I imagine the Tigers are just looking for someone competent to bridge the gap to Benoit.

But with the market as dry as it's been, sellers can overcharge and considering how much of an achilles heel Detroit's bullpen's been for them much of the year, this was probably something they felt they had to do. I'm just glad (in the wake of the Grilli injury) it wasn't the Pirates paying big for him.

^^^Lindor is irrelevant as he is the #1 prospect of the Indians and a top ten rated prospect in ALL of baseball....but I get your point.

I agree that the Tigers didn't get somehing for nothing, especially with the PTBNL which I didn't realize or was vaguely reported on when my comments were first made 1 hour after the trade.
Also I wouldn't doubt he is the 7th/8th inning man with Benoit staying as the closer

I hardly think that Veras is only a bridge to Benoit. He is a credible option if Benoit fails.
Benoit hardly has an established record as a closer either, so I think the Kitties are buying insurance if he can't do the job as well as getting a late inning guy. No doubt the Tigers will start with Veras as the set up guy, after all the this team is better than the '27 Yankees.;)

As of 8AM Peavey is still on the White Sox....scheduled to pitch against Kazmir tonite.

Just saw on twitter that some news reporter in Chicago said he won't be pitching tonight.
  • Dan Gilbert
Last thing I hear was Keith Law from ESPN last night saying Peavy probably wouldn't be traded and teams were saying that the White Sox will be keeping him.

Then again its ESPN and I have no clue who Keith Law is.

I don't know. I think some teams show exaggerated ups and downs more than others forcing consistency to be a focus as opposed to the teams who are already more successful at being consistent.
  • Dan Gilbert
Cleveland Indians are interested in Rockies left hand reliever Josh Outman. Not earth shattering statistics but he is a lefty.

Some say the asking price is too high right now, but the market has too many buyers for the price to drop before the deadline.

I enjoyed watching this clip and seeing ALL the greats that were on that team. Man oh man.
  • Laley23
CBS radio reporting peavy is being scratched tonight. He might not be traded, but sox won't pitch him till after deadline in case.

Also, how do you not know who Keith Law is DG?? He does so much for ESPN and MLB in general. Ranks all the prospects a d is a guy who is smart and crunches all the numbers for articles.

Loved those crowds. The jake was a magical place during that era.

It was amazing. I credit those teams for my love of baseball...without question. I was 8 years old in 1995. My dad made sure we got over to at least 5 games a year. I don't remember any specific games from 95 or 96 but the clinching ALDS game 5(Wright vs Pettitte) in 1997 is the 1st game I was at that I will never forget. 10 years old in that environment. It was wild. Pure electricity.
