I am not much a base ball fan these days but I do follow enough to know that this team may indeed take each league and win the world championship. Who agrees with me? -
Ironman92Waiting to see your manager choice.
With Dusty.....no way in hell -
SportsAndLadyAll we would need from the Indians is Francona. We'd be WS favorites (maybe slightly behind the Cards) with Francona over Dusty Fuckface Baker.
-
Terry_TateYou forgot Drew Stubbs.
And with Dusty Baker managing they wouldn't make the AL/NLCS.
Also, Paul would be on the bench with Bourne starting. I'll let Azu and ironman handle the rest of the roster. -
Ironman92I have Bourn in CF and Reynolds at 3rd....can he still play 3rd?
-
se-alumFirst of all, that wouldn't be the lineup you would use. It would be more like:
CF Bourn
LF Choo
1B Votto
2B Phillips
DH Swisher
RF Bruce
SS Cabrera
3B Reynolds
C Hanigan
Bench: C. Santana, Kipnis, Brantley, Frazier -
Azubuike24Did you really put Xavier Paul as a starter and Mike Leake and Zach McAllister in the rotation? Sam LeCure in the pen? Zach Cozart on the team?
I'd roll this out there...assuming everyone is healthy.
CF Michael Bourn
LF Shin-Soo Choo
1B Joey Votto
DH Nick Swisher
RF Jay Bruce
2B Brandon Phillips
SS Asdrubal Cabrera
C Carlos Santana
3B Jason Kipnes
Mark Reynolds, Ryan Hanigan, Michael Brantley, Todd Frazier, Ryan Ludwick
SP Mat Latos
SP Johnny Cueto
SP Justin Masterson
SP Homer Bailey
SP Ubaldo Jimenez
RP Aroldis Chapman
RP Joe Smith
RP Sean Marshall
RP Jonathan Broxton
RP Scott Kazmir (need another lefty, who could also spot start)
RP Vinnie Pestano -
Azubuike24Yes, more importantly. Francona managing. The only move I'd maybe make is Hanigan catching over Santana. Hanigan is just that good defensively and handling a staff. I wouldn't trust Santana and you wouldn't need to really rely on his bat with that stacked lineup.

I think if you're going to play Kipnis at 3B, you have to put Cozart on over Frazier or Reynolds. If Cabrera gets hurt, you gotta have someone to play SS.Azubuike24;1455115 wrote:Did you really put Xavier Paul as a starter and Mike Leake and Zach McAllister in the rotation? Sam LeCure in the pen? Azubuike24Yeah, Cozart over Frazier would make more sense since you would always want a backup SS.
-
Azubuike24Sorry, I'm still laughing that he listed Xavier Paul as a starter.....

This is what I was waiting for. -

Santana isn't that bad defensively. He struggles at time but his OBP is ridiculous. He is pretty much a must in the lineup -
wes_mantoothOnly players worth taking from the Tribe would be Brantley, Santana, Masterson and Bourn.

Terrible logic--because we don't need to rely on someone means we should play an inferior player. If you're going to play a catcher for defensive purposes, play Gomes. Hanigan is terrible offensively and not enough of an upgrade over Gomes defensively to warrant him playing.Azubuike24;1455116 wrote: you wouldn't need to really rely on his bat with that stacked lineup. -

Also a few minor league prospects we have.wes_mantooth;1455194 wrote:Only players worth taking from the Tribe would be Brantley, Santana, Masterson and Bourn. -

Hanigan is probably the 2nd best defensive catcher in the league behind Yadier, in fact, he threw out a higher percentage of runners than Molina did last year. Also, if you take out this year, he's a career .275 hitter w/ a .370 OBP.lhslep134;1455302 wrote:Terrible logic--because we don't need to rely on someone means we should play an inferior player. like_thatIf you make the playoffs in baseball, you have a chance to win the WS with how much of a crapshoot the playoffs are. The reds could win the WS this year alone, so yes if they took a few other players from the tribe (including the manager) I could see them winning a WS.

vball10setTo answer the question in the thread title, no.

So basically you didn't read my post. If you want to play a defensive catcher from a combined CLE/CIN team play Yan Gomes. He has better catcher-specific defensive advanced stats so far this year (making him at least as good as Hanigan defensively): Hanigan's Fielding+Pos.Adjustment of 4.2 is worse than Gomes' 4.7, and offensively Hanigan has a -6.9 (yes negative) batting value while Gomes is at 3.9se-alum;1455307 wrote:Hanigan is probably the 2nd best defensive catcher in the league behind Yadier, in fact, he threw out a higher percentage of runners than Molina did last year. Gomes has a WAR of 1.2 while Hanigan is at 0.
So yes, Hanigan can ride the bench in place of Gomes if you want defense, and both are riding the pine for Santana if you want offense. -

I'll take the track record of Hanigan over the 23 games of Gomes any day. -

So lemme get this straight: 2 Reds fans (AZ and you) want to just ignore the fact that Gomes is as good or better defensively and ignore that Santana is light years better offensively, in order to put Hanigan in the lineup because the team "wouldn't need to rely on his bat (speaking of Santana)."se-alum;1455388 wrote:I'll take the track record of Hanigan over the 23 games of Gomes any day.
I don't think I need to say anything else besides: K. -

RotinajI think they should just put Chapman at catcher. Hell just throw people out by 5 feet from his knees. Problem solved, youre welcome guys.
