2013 Cleveland Browns Thread: RIP Chud

If that is the plan, just stick with Hodges because there is a reason these guys aren't on a team currently. I would absolutely draft punter with our last pick if Sharp or Wing are still available. Just my opinion, feel free to disagree with it but make sure you type /sarcasm after your anecdote or somebody'll get confused
How am I supposed to detect sarcasm tard? That's why I asked if that post was serious. -
BR1986FBI might use a late 7th round compensatory pick on a punter if it was kind of a "throwaway" pick anyway. Only Al Davis would burn a legit draft pick on a punter. Unfortunately, don't think the Browns will be getting any comp picks this year.

And here's a blurb on Dallas' free agency and their thoughts on re-signing Anthony Spencer...

Commander of AwesomeBoth would be a welcomed addition to our def.
-
BR1986FBThey'd be nuts if they paid Spencer $10-12 mill/yr though.
Cleveland's offseason priorities

To some observers, the task for the Cleveland Browns this offseason would seem to revolve around their offense, which had considerable struggles considering they invested two first-round picks on skill position players in the 2012 draft. Nevertheless, at least one scribe is of the opinion that they should focus on the other side of the ball, at least if they're going to do all that new DC Ray Horton has indicated.
"To blitz as much as Horton prefers will make another top cover cornerback a high priority, perhaps the No. 1 priority," Marla Ridenour of the Akron Beacon Journal writes. "But that's just one of several holes the Browns must fill and questions they must answer. They also must find a starting free safety, several linebackers and a Pro Bowl-caliber pass rusher. They must decide if third-year defensive end Jabaal Sheard can play outside linebacker, if linebacker Chris Gocong, who ruptured his Achilles Aug. 4, can be counted on and figure out what to do with massive defensive tackle Phil Taylor."
Both Mel Kiper Jr. and Todd McShay had the Browns addressing the pass-rush at No. 6 overall in their mock drafts released Thursday; Kiper went with FSU's Bjoern Werner while McShay shipped them LSU's Barkevious Mingo:
Mel Kiper, Jr.
Kiper Mock V2.0
" The Browns regressed on defense in 2012, and the pass rush was a culprit. This was, by every standard, a bottom-10 unit, and they simply need to add talent. If they want the best player available at this spot, and a guy who fills a void, it might be Werner by the time we get to April. In fact, by then he could be expected to go higher. A late arrival to football, he has a high ceiling, but already has a decent portfolio of pass-rush skills. What's great about Werner isn't just the explosiveness as a pass-rusher, it's also his awareness. He keeps his eyes up and disrupts passing lanes. He's a good fit for the Browns."
FWIW, they also have Werner at #15 and Mingo at #17. Much different than other mocks.Commander of Awesome;1385239 wrote:http://www.nfl.com/draft/2013/mock-drafts/daniel-jeremiah/165100

CLEconomically SpeakingSteelers over the cap by 14 mill and have yet to resign any free agents. How many could the Browns benefit from signing, and who would you want? I already know you think all free agents are worthless COA. Anyone else care to weigh in?

I think we should sign Wallace, then sign flacco and then trade those two for Aaron Rodgers.

Commander of AwesomeLets go through Steelers 2013 FA:
Max Starks
Mendenhallbinladen
issac redman
Plaxico Burress
Charlie Batch
Demarcus Van Dyke
Mike Wallace
Greg Warren
Leonard Pope
Ryan Mundy
Keenan Lewis
Loug Legursky
Byron Letwich
Brandon Johnson
Casey Hampton
Larry Foote
Ramon Foster
Will Allen -
Commander of AwesomeYEah, I'm not interested in any of them. Maybe Hampton to be a back up NT.
-
royal_kI would sign a top FA guard and maybe a LB or a DB. I think a couple FAs that fit a need would be smart to go after. We are limited in draft picks, as of now.
-
FootwedgeWell...nice to know Pittsburgh will suck for many years to come.
-
shook_17I would love to have Mike Wallace.

Would rather have Bowe, but Wallace would do.shook_17;1385507 wrote:I would love to have Mike Wallace. -

Eh no thanks. Selfish player who wants paid like a top receiver. I'd rather have bowe or Jennings -
Pick6I like Jennings, but would prefer to sign a guy who isnt injured half of the time.
Id like Wallace as well, but only for the right price.
I dont expect to get anybody big, seeing that Haslam said they dont plan to make any "big" splashes this year. -
buckeyes_wooweeI would honestly like to get Ted Ginn. Not that I think he will be a huge impact player but I think he can be a productive #4. I think a 4 wide set of Little and Gordon on the outside and Benjamin and Ginn on the inside would be hard to cover. Also can most likely get him on a short term deal with little risk.
-
Pick6I dont think Ginn brings anything to the table other than the ability to stretch the field.

buckeyes_woowee
Which would be a good fit in Chud/Norv's offense. I think they could be creative with him as well. His and Travis' speed can open up the offense.Pick6;1385669 wrote:I dont think Ginn brings anything to the table other than the ability to stretch the field. -
CLEconomically SpeakingI'd rather let Gordon continue to develop as the #1, without bringing in a guy who will whine for the ball (i.e. Mike Wallace).
What about Emmanuel Sanders? He's restricted, but if the Steelers are out of money they wouldn't be able to match. If they don't match the deal, do we still lose a draft pick? I'm still fuzzy on RFA rules. -
shook_17yes if they are a RFA and the team doesn't match the deal you lose the draft pick at which the team tendered him.
