Tribe Off Season/Hot Stove thread.

They are having an FSN2. 2 Channels.

For the record, it wont be ready for launch before Tribe season. So word is, likely...but not for sure...STO will be operating the Tribe 2013 season and FSN takes over after that.

Last I heard, the hold up wasn't really with the Indians, it was with the Diamondbacks wanting too much in return. They were allegedly offering Trevor Bauer for Cabrera, but the tribe wants Tyler Skaggs instead. Both players are top tier pitching prospects, but the Diamondbacks have soured on Bauer slightly, which I think has alarmed the Indians into preferring Skaggs.

I had seen where they were saying FOX would operate STO as is through baseball season before they fully integrate it. But who knows what will change between now and March

All I know is, in terms of how the crews for the stations will be operated, it should be STO guys this year. They were all talking about it during the HS Football Championships and everyone is upset because they are out a lot of money. FSN is going to field their own crews as a seperate 3rd party will be doing the crews (as they always do). But FSN likely will feed the pockets of "their own" the same way the crewer (who field the crews) did for the STO guys.

From what I understand, who operates the Tribe next season is up in the air, but the crew is likely to be STO still.

...that all said, these guys are all freelancers lol. But you get "in" with certain crewmasters and they schedule you for the stuff they get hired for. In this case, STO.

Regardless of where fans are now, MLB says northern/northeastern OH is out of market for Reds, and southern/southwestern Ohio is out of market for the Indians. They won't be allowed to show both statewide under any circumstance
I'm in Toledo which is in 'market' for Detroit, Cleveland and Cincinnati. So if they deem Toledo to receive the Indians feed, the Reds fans will be shutout (or vice versa) because they won't be allowed to watch on MLB Extra Innings or MLB.TV because all in market games are blacked out.

Tribe has offers out to Swisher and Youklis..

...again...they just won't go the extra mile to land one/both of these guys. The Yanks have offered Youk 1 year at $12 million. Tribe has offered 2 years at $18M.

:mad:you see..... this is where a good owner steps in and makes the deal/s happen. If these are the guys that are going to give you a shot...then you pull the trigger and get them.

I don't think Youk wants to go to New York. Plus we have the Francona relationship. We might have a shot there. I don't see any way we get Swish but I would like that as well.

If I were a FA baseball player in the MLB my first course of action would be to "talk" with the tribe. I would immediately double my value and have serious talks with other teams.

Accoding to Buster olney, theTribe is in the 'best position' to get Nick Swisher....only problem is about $10million.

    http://tracking.si.com/2012/12/07/indians-in-best-position-to-sign-nick-swisher/
The Indians seem like the front runner for now, and have a good shot if the club ups the amount it plans to offer
...and again this is where the owner steps in and makes it happen. Could be another 'second place' finish for the Tribe....and personally, I'm sick and tired of it. This kind of stuff has been happening since the early Dolan days and began with Manny Ramirez and hasn't stopped since.
They just won't go the extra mile to land the guys they want.

I had Time Warner and couldn't get Detroit games up here. Wasn't till I switched to Directv that I had FS Detroit since TW shows only Mid Ohio programming up here

You couldn't get Tigers games because your Time Warner didn't have FS Detroit. Not because of MLB blackout restrictions. Had you bought MLB Extra Innings or MLB.TV you still wouldn't have been able to watch due to MLB blackout rules. I have Buckeye Cable and get FS Detroit, FS Ohio and STO.

Tribe very very close to signing mark Reynolds. Not a bad pick up at all. 1 year 6 mill.

Butcher in the field. Low average and strikeouts a ton. But can bop it out of the yard. Our past 1st basemen have hit for a low average and struckout a ton but they couldn't hit it out of the infield. Worth a shot. Would be nice to add a club option on it.

They said that means we are out on Youk.

I am up in the air on this one.

On one hand it is at least a viable power right handed stick.

On the other hand he is a poor on base % guy and in his last 3 seasons has hit .198/.221/.221.

While this line-up needs power, sticking a guy in there likely to hit around .210 is going to be maddening in exchange for 25 homers.

The price tag was certainly right for the Dolan's at $6 million. It's kind of like buying a cosmetically nice 8 cylinder car that looks like a great deal, but then you drive it and realize it was only cheap because it is firing on 6. Suddenly you realize why the car was as cheap as it was.

will he be the dh or do they play on playing him at one of the corner infield spots?

At $6 mil I'm guessing there's a team option for year 2. This isn't the worst fit for us, I kind of like the signing. Should definitely enjoy the short porch in left.
  • Crimson streak
Reynolds will play 1st base. He actually played pretty good at first base last year for Baltimore. It definitely doesn't mean we're out for youk. There trying to convince him on a 1st/3rd/dh rotation. With Reynolds youk and Chiz.
  • lhslep134
We could also still be in the running for Youk to play 3rd if we end up trading Asdrubal, because we can move Chiz over to his natural position, SS.

    Just a theory.

Ken Rosenthal reported he thinks they are out on Youk. No one knows for sure, but he is usually pretty good as far as being plugged in to this stuff.

Reynolds is a done deal. I really wish they would get an option, even if they have to pay a bit more.... Not a fan of one year deals unless you know you have a 'can't miss prospect' waiting in the wings.

I agree. If he starts out hot, then you are already talking about trading him mid-season because he is a free agent at the end of the year and will play himself into a healthy multi-year deal.

One year deals give teams all the risk and none of the upside.

That assumes the player has a good season. A one year deal gives teams none of the risk and none of the upside. If he ends up hitting .145 with 6 HR and 200 K's...then the team is out nothing after this season. The only risk involves is if he has a monster year because we won't pay him. A club option would be the perfect solution. 1 year 6 million and a club option for year 2 at 8 million would make sense to me.
