Tribe Off Season/Hot Stove thread.

Dice K is "behind" in his innings...making it more difficult for him to make the 5 spot in the rotation. Kaczmir still has not got the 'official' nod for the spot.
The Tribe can send Dice K to AAA if he accepts the assignment with a $100K payment. The Tribe could stash him there till June 1, at which time, Dice K could opt out.

So what you're saying is, Columbus will have a rotation of Trevor Bauer Carlos Carrasco David Huff Dice-K and Corey Kluber...

Kind of looking that way, unless they decide to keep Huff for the long guy out of the pen. Potentially a very good AAA rotation.
  • iclfan2
Masterson got shelled in the 1st inning today
  • HitsRus
Huff is out of options, so if the Tribe does not keep him as the long guy out of the pen, he would have to pass thru waivers.
  • royal_k
Yeah, I forgot Huff was out of options. I can't believe they would expose him to waivers. He probably makes the roster.
  • HitsRus
Indeed...the Tribe has offered Dice K a minor league assignment. He's reportedly weighing the options....no decision reaed.
  • HitsRus
.....and Dice K HAS accepted his minor league assignment.

Matt Capps who is still working his shoulder back into shape, has been offered the same deal....100 K to go to AAA ball till June 1. After June 1, if he is not back in the majors, he can opt out. Capps is still weighing the offer.
Two spots are still up for grabs in the Tribe BP. Spots are already locked down by the Mafia...Perez, Pestano, and Smith. Also Rich Hill and Cody Allen are the others who have made it.
Albers and Hagadone are the favorites to nail down the remaining spots. 3 others are still in the mix, including David Huff who is out of options.

The Tribe is interested in working out long term deals with Michael Brantley and Jason Kipnis. Both players are pre arbitration....the deals would be a buy out of their arbitration years plus one or two years of free agency.
  • HitsRus
Yeah....my son was 10 years old and he wore #31 ...for his favorite pitcher, Steve Olin.

Terry Francona sent Trevor Bauer and Corey Kluber to AAA today...leaving only two ( Carlos Carrasco and Scott Kazmir) to battle for the final starting pitcher roster spot.
The Tribe also sent Gil and Barnes back to AAA...leaving Huff, Shaw, Hagadone and Albers to fight for the final 2 BP spots.

Matt Capps continues to explore his options, and has not yet let the Indians know if he'll accept his assignment to Columbus.

Steve Kaczmir might make the roster? Damn.. what about Scott Kazmir?

Ok.. Kazmir should already be a lock, in fact he should be the number 3 guy IMO. Brett Myers isnt a starter in my eyes (but I'd put him at #5 in this rotation for now). I do like McAllister in the 4th slot.
  • CLEconomically Speaking
Tribe should send a couple guys to Texas for Chris McGuinness, so we can option him to Columbus where he can get reps and further develop. He shows alot of talent, but he won't improve if he has to stay on the 25 man roster (where he'd likely be on the bench tge majority of the year).

I wish somebody would explain to me what Ubaldo and Masterson have done to be guaranteed 1 and 2 spots.

Well, you have to put someone there. Once the season starts it really doesn't matter who is "#1" until you get to the playoffs. To me it looks like we have some guys that are 3a ansd 3b's...some 4a and 4 b's, and 5 a,b,c,and d. We definitely don't have an Ace, and I would say that our best wouldn't even be a number 2 on any playoff caliber team.

    agreed.
Does any one know McDade's status? He's had a good spring, and looks to be a player.
  • CLEconomically Speaking
McDade was "never going to make the roster this year" according to Paul Hoynes. I love this kid though.. He could be a great call up either this year or next. The 6'1'' 250 pound switch hitter hit .400 (12-for-30) with two doubles, one homer and 10 RBIs this spring. He has officially been reassigned to AAA Columbus.

Who's gonna be our #5? Kazmir got rocked today too!

    I agree with this.

Seniority rules, I guess. Street cred.
  • HitsRus
Masterson was okay in his last start. He gave up 5 runs in five innings...only one earned. Starting pitching is obviously the weak spot on this team. I think Kazmir was the favorite for the number 5 spot....maybe until this last week. Carrasco had a pretty fair outing last time out...Kazmir did not.

Reportedly, Carlos Carrasco still has to serve a 6 game suspension dating back top 2011. Most likely that will mean he will be sent back to AAA.

Tribe deep thinkers are weighing taking an extra reliever which means one less position player makes the 25 man opening day roster(probably Giambi).

Ubaldo Jimenez went 7 strong innings, giving up three runs yesterday.

Right, and two of the runs were actually allowed by the bum that came in after Ubaldo. He actually looked pretty decent for the most part. I watched a large portion of the game. He was keeping pitches down, had reasonable command, and his fastball was consistently around 92. He has the ability to be a dominant, top-of-the-rotation guy, but his velocity and command has hurt him since the tribe traded for him. Hopefully, he can return to form some this year and get us 15 wins.
  • Crimson streak
Kazmir named 5th starter, shaw Rayburn, and giambi made the roster
  • HitsRus
Giambi put on the15 day DL ...clearing a roster spot for an extra pitcher to start the season.

Brett Myers was hammered again last nite...Rich Hill and David Huff also were ineffective.

Starting to wonder about the 7 million they gave Myers. I think he's gave up something like 20 earned runs in 16 innings with 32 hits. I hope he's just stretching himself out and not worried about results. Although this close to the season, I would think you would worry. If he bombs when the season starts, does Francona stay with him longer because of his contract?
