Blue Jackets looking to trade Rick Nash?

    H    mmm I'm not sure how they are going to get any better by getting rid of the best player they have. They certainly haven't been able to do much with any other draft picks, so I'm not sure what they can get for him that will improve the team.

    I'm not much of a hockey fan. I tried when they first came to Columbus but it was no fun to pay that much money to watch them continually lose. My company had season tickets and we could buy the tickets we wanted. I think I went to 5-10 games the first 2 or 3 years but then I lost interest. I did take my wife and some friends to a game earlier this year but it was pretty much just as bad as when they first started, if not worse. It's too bad, because I think if they could win a few games or show some improvement then Columbus would really jump on the band wagon.

    And if they do trade him, I'll be rooting for him to do well wherever he ends up. He's certainly been loyal to the team and been through a lot of losing.

    They're looking to dump everything. Not necessarily a bad strategy when you're one of the worst franchises in pro sports. Before they lose their best player (by far) though, I'd like to know they have a rebuilding strategy in place. Whatever they would get for him would have to be the cornerstone of the franchise for the next 10 years (be it a great player or a group of young but potentially great players).

    Some of those young guys from Philly they mention (Couturier, Schenn, van Riemsdyk) interest me although I wonder just how much they'd be willing to part them.

    That is what concerns me. I don't think they could find their ass with both hands, let alone get the cornerstone of the franchise for the next ten years. They've had plenty of high draft picks and not much success.

    I get why he would want out. But he isn't asking to be traded. Columbus is looking to move him.
    He has a NTC or NMC, it sounds like he's willing to waive that, which is basically saying "yeah i wouldn't mind getting out of this crappy situation" It's not an out right ask to be traded, more a classy way of doing it.

    Yes, but they went to him and asked. He said he wouldn't ask to be traded but if they want to get rid of him he will let them. Why would he stay here when they are basically telling him they don't want him?

    I hope he uses that no trade clause to make sure he goes somewhere that doesn't suck. He couldn't go to a team that was worse, but I feel like he's earned the right to go to a contender.

    it's not that they don't want him, they can just get a lot for him to start over.

    Ya know what......why not? This is their most miserable season to date I believe so what can it really hurt? They have one ill fated playoff sweep season to give fans hope, but they are at rock bottom. They really cannot get much worse so why not see if they can restock?

    Now....I dont really trust that they have the smarts and plan to go out and draft and develope the right guys, but that is a whole diff topic.

    Really? You don't think it would benefit the NFL moving him to a larger market?

    Look at what Lin is doing in NYC for the NBA. If it was Utah or Golden State it would not get the same media coverage.

    I must not have been clear enough for you. True Rick Nash will NEVER be the same as Lin, unless he can become Asian, attended an Ivy League school and has a nice cross over. Sorry you missed the analogy.

    I'm saying it's important for the NHL's stars to be in the larger markets. I tried comparing how being in NYC can make an athlete a star overnight. Keep thinking of Gretzsky being traded to LA right after Edmonton won the Stanley Cup, which was because of money. The NHL needs it's stars in larger markets....imo.

    And Rick Nash is a star, in the NHL. Sadly, the NHL doesn't have the national cache like the NFL or NBA have, so only the super duper stars (Ovechkin, Crosby) even sniff the "Sportscenters" of the world in terms of popularity. Rick Nash could put up 90 pts/yr in NYC and would not be a super duper star. Marian Gaborik is doing that this year and how many people even know who he is?

    If Columbus wanted Couturier they would have never traded their first last year. Him and Schenn are going no where.

    If Nash was to be moved, I'd like to see him go to Vancouver and get a package of either:

    Schneider
    Hodgson

    or

    Schneider
    Ballard
    Raymond

    I know he'll never agree to it but, I wouldn't mind seeing him go to Edmonton either and trying to get the #2 pick in this years draft and a solid roster player.

    The possibility of getting two of Yakupov, Murray, or Grigorenko would be incredible to rebuild the franchise around.

    If Nash were to be traded to the Rags, I would want Staal/Kreider/Dubinsky coming back.
