There is obviously a difference in panning out (which you originally said) and being a Tom Brady, Drew Brees, Peyton Manning. Every quarterback that I have listed has had a pretty good career. Debatable is Fitz, because he hasnt had a lot of time yet.
LOL at the attempts to save face on your Romo and Schaub comments.

Even if you want to count that year, it's still only 2 years(with lockout between seasons) that he has had to work with NFL coaches. Not to mention the changing of the offensive scheme.
If McCoy gets a pass, then why cant Fitz? This was only his first year of being named the starter at the beginning of the season, and still only played in 8 games. He doesnt have shit to work with as well.
BR1986FB;1072346 wrote:Yet his first year was the year that gave us "hope" that he'd amount to something. And then he regressed...

Don't see Andy Dalton & Cam Newton, TRUE rookies, making excuses. And don't give me the "supporting cast" argument because Jimmy Clausen had essentially the same weapons as Newton and he sucked.

McCoy floundered in year two when he HAD his chances. Sure, WR's dropped passes and the O-Line wasn't stout, early, but McCoy repeatedly missed open receivers, threw behind them, etc. The first part of that scouting report on McCoy posted by COA was bullshit. It gave you the impression that McCoy was strong at hitting receivers in stride allowing them to get YAC. Nothing could be further from the truth.
Eh, I mean.. Nanee, Shockey, and Olsen were all first year additions, but whatever you say. Stewart, Williams(only 6 GP), and Smith were hampered by injuries in Clausen's year. Lafell was a Rookie.

Dalton has a very talented group of young WRs around him, which the Browns do not.

Dalton & Newton made the most of their chances...McCoy didn't. And McCoy had plenty of chances he just chose to checkdown.

So you just wanted McCoy to throw deep for the sake of throwing deep, nevermind the fact that his WR's couldn't separate from anyone. I imagine that McCoy could've employed the same chuck & duck method that Dalton used if he had a AJ Green to go up and get the ball. Confidence in your WR's goes a long way when throwing the long ball. We'll just let this go now, because your blind hate will never let you see that the odds were greatly stacked against McCoy this season. I respect your opinion on alot of stuff regarding the Browns, but anyone that would be willing to denounce their fanhood over a QB that had little to no chance of succeeding, is carrying an unhealthy hatred. I, for one, will remain a Browns fan whether they keep Colt or decide to draft RGIII.

Also from your logic you'd take Mark Sanchez over Romo, Schaub, Stafford, Ryan, etc?

And I don't block people but you made some asinine comments and I felt the need to call you out. I mean its fine to think Romo is over rated and all but to call him the biggest choke artist ever is just ridiculous.
lol oki was being sarcastic as to go as far to say the biggest choke artist ever. but come on, when the dude i put on the spot he blunders it some how. and mark sanchez is the exception to the rule. he is complete garbage.

+1. even though i hate to see colt again next year in a browns uni, i will always remain a season ticket holder and browns fan:thumbup:

Haha I really didn't know I've met some people who truly believe Romo is that bad. But I'll stop so you guys can get back to dicussing your team.

IMO I think the Browns should draft RG3/Blackmon(whoever is available at 4) and then get Wright/Poe at 22.
  • shook_17
^^ id love RGIII with the fourth pick and wright with the 22nd.

What do you guys think of getting Kolb?

Knr is discussing what a nice fit he would be since there are Manning to Arizona rumors

I've never been a huge Kolb fan. He hasn't really ever impressed me and I don't think the Browns should go after him.

Hooley(who sucks) and Fedor(who sucks even more) think that he fits the WCO better than his current system.....that is their argument.

If they can't get RGIII and they can't sign Flynn than going forward with McCoy for at least another year would be the best option. Please no Tannehill/Weeden/Cousins, RGIII and Luck are the only franchise QB's in this draft and drafting someone else would be a waste that would set the Browns back even further (at least within the first 5 rounds). Also please no Matt Hasselbeck or some other washed up option. You get some weapons this year, then when/if Colt fails he will be out of excuses. Then next year you try to find that franchise guy. The QB CAN be the last piece of the puzzle if you build the rest of the team correctly.
  • Mulva
I'd like him more than Flynn, but I don't think he's anything special.
  • IggyPride00
I think Shurmur was Kolb's QB coach in Philly for 2 years, so he clearly is a system guy. At least it wouldn't be putting a square peg in a round hole.

I don't want him, but at least there is a fit there.
  • Y-Town Steelhound
At least the people making this decision have more experience with Kolb than most (Heckert and Shurmur) so they know what they're getting. Kolb had some good games in Philly but he was pretty bad in an injury plagued season in Arizona with a pretty good offense around him and the best WR in the league (IMO). Maybe it is the system.

There have been several HOF qbacks that weren't drafted anywhere near number one. John Unitus..not drafted. Bart Starr, 17th round. Drew Brees, Steve Young...and more. Even Flacco.

Oh...and Shaub did contribute and win a division title.

The point is...even the gurus are wrong much more often than they are right. Super doosh Mel Kiper had Jake Locker as the slam dunk number one overall pick before his senior year.

Conversely, Leaf, Akili Smith, Meyer from Notre Dame...all "can't miss" quarterbacks that never did squat.

The Browns need wide receivers...period. They draft Blackmon, Wright and even Page from Toledo down the line (Welker type) and all of a sudden, McCoy's noodle arm, poor decisions, chronic "dump offs" disappear.

Steve Young was absolute garbage his first 2 years in the league. Then, he teams of up with Jerry Rice, John Taylor and Roger Craig...and finds his way to Canton.

Too many posters want to throw this quarterback (McCoy) under ther bus. Not me. He's shown me ten times the field savvy as Charlie Frye or Derek Anderson.

This is pro football. In pro football you need complimentary pieces.....and...an offensive coordinator that can design pass route schemes to pull safeties off and help receivers get open deep. We had neither the last few seasons.

Roger Craig was already gone from SF when Young became the starter and the only way McCoy finds his way to Canton is with a map or a GPS.

Saw this on another forum, I laughed.

Interviewer: If you were playing in the NFL today how many yards per carry do you think you would average?

    Jim Brown: Probably about 3.

Interviewer: Wow, that's a big drop off from the 5.2 that you averaged in your career. Do you really think todays players are that much better than when you played?

Jim Brown: Well you have to remember, I'm 76 years old now.

Every time I watch a Jim Brown highlight video I sit there in amazement. For his time he was just playing a whole different type of football. Way ahead of his time with his cuts, power and speed.

Hell he was as big as an offensive lineman, and as fast as a wide receiver.

Pretty good read. I like to see that he is now living in Cleveland. I felt like he was disconnected with the fans when he wasn't around as much.
