I guess it comes down to "wanting to win" versus "being right." Shurmur/Holmgren & Company would rather do it "the RIGHT way (according to the WCO)" versus actually putting this team in a position to win.Gameover;1281395 wrote:My biggest question is end of the game when we are supposedly in a hurry up, Weeden is under center running a PA pass. Put the MF in shotgun and let him sling away.
That's why guys like John Fox, Ron Rivera & Shanahan (duh) are MUCH better coaches than Shurmur. They mold the offense to the talent. They don't expect the square peg to fit in the round hole. Shurmur's trying to jam it in there. -

How cool would it be to have a player named "Barkevious" for the Dawg Pound?Commander of Awesome;1281457 wrote:http://football.realgm.com/src_wiretap_archives/29267/20120927/2013_nfl_mock_draft_version_10/

not a bad thought but that would require holmgren to actually work, leave seattle, put in time etc etc. I think he's already checked into semi-retirement, and has checked out mentally.BR1986FB;1281352 wrote:What about Holmgren? Holmgren has said he wants to "fulfill his contract" and it's assumed he has a "golden parachute" and will want to bail as soon as Banner takes over. But if he truly wants to fulfill that contract, why doesn't Haslam ****can Shurmur and get Holmgren to take over in the interim role to fulfill it? I'd feel a lot more comfortable with Holmgren in a coaching role than team president role. -
Go4alOngbOmBI am going to take the "bright side" approach to my comment on this evenings game. The "bright side" is simply this. Look at the amount of rookies we have starting in skill positions on this team. After Cribbs goes out (on what I have to admit was a clean play....it looked nasty, but it's the NFL, not Pop Warner) we have this lineup. Out of 11 starters, we have 2 receivers, a QB, RB and OL who are ALL in their 1st years in the NFL. That is as close to 50% of your lineup as you can GET on the offensive side of the ball playing ONLY their 4th game EVER in the NFL. If you look at it like that, a loss sucks, but damn, we did show some fight at the end. The Ravens are supposed to be an ELITE NFL team. We went blow for blow with them.
Which brings me to my next point......
If the Browns WR's (Norwood and Little specifically) catch balls that almost every other #2 or #3 WR in the NFL COULD and WILL catch...we win that game. Hands down, every time we NEED a play, we do NOT have an Anquon Bolden or a Torre Smith to go to. We have Greg Little, and Jordan Norwood. The focus on next years draft needs to be simply a play maker WR. With Richardson quietly doing what he has been doing since week 2, we are a strong deep threat away from keeping any elite NFL defense on their toes.
What honestly still blows my mind, is our "senior" receiver on our squad is Josh Cribbs. In all honesty, before he got hurt, he was having a career day catching the ball....but Josh Cribbs is any other elite NFL teams 3rd receiver. A slot who can catch and hopefully run.
All in all the Baltimore game was NOT the train wreck I totally expected it to be. (Thursday night football has been craptastic to us...I remember a few Brows Steelers blowouts I wish I wouldn't have went to my local watering hole to watch)
It gives me hope, that with the right direction, this team could be a contender in the next few seasons. As long as we don't continue the pattern of completely blowing up our starting lineup, like we do every 2 years. (Remember folks, he may be 28, but Weeden is still an NFL Rookie)
That is all...haters... criticize away. -
jmogOur defense wasn't terrible once you consider Taylor and Haden didn't play. With those two in the lineup and a WR that does not drop the freaking football, we are an actual team.
Until we get a WR that can catch, we will remain a bottom feeder.
I think with games 2-4, Weeden has quieted the nay sayers and those wanting McCoy back. 1 pass last night looked bad, other than that Weeden looks amazing for a QB in his 4th game in the NFL with WRs who can't catch. -
MulvaThe standard of amazing has apparently plummeted.
-
RotinajHow the fuck can we lose this many games in a row? God damn this team blows.
-
BR1986FB
Yeah, I wouldn't go as far as to say Weeden has looked "amazing" but he's the best QB this fan base has seen since the return in 1999.Mulva;1282213 wrote:The standard of amazing has apparently plummeted. -
RotinajI'm sorry but I'd still at the very least put that shitbag Derek Anderson above weeden. Weeden has played between horrible and average so far. Not sure how he could possibly be thought of as the best since 99.
-
KnightRyderwhy does shumur continue to trot litte out on the field. put in another a reciever who can prove to us he cant catch. little already has done that.
-
BR1986FB
I dislike Little's drops as much as the next guy but my thoughts at this point are that they might as well keep sending him out there. As sad as it is, he's the best they've got. Hopefully he gets out of the funk but I'm not counting on it.KnightRyder;1282238 wrote:why does shumur continue to trot litte out on the field. put in another a reciever who can prove to us he cant catch. little already has done that. -

shook_17Pat shurmurs 2 minute offense is stupid dumb. And im not talking about the last drive of the game, tim talking the drive before halftime. He comes out and runs a draw after he burns a time out to make the ravens punt. Air the damn ball out. If you don't want to try a nd drive down the field don't use a time out to stop the clock.
Also greg little has to catch the fucking ball. He needs to catch that touchdown pass in the fourth quarter. If we have a reciever we win that game. Our team is close yet so far.
And I keep seeing improvement from weeden. Yes it doesn't help our wide outs are complete ass. But if he keeps improving it will be interesting to see what we do in the draft next year.
Any good FA wide outs coming out next year? -
BR1986FB
I know, it's frustrating. If they bench him, who starts? MoMass (if healthy) & Benjamin? I know that Gordon isn't ready and I'd rather see them bring up Josh Cooper from the PS than see Norwood's sorry ass out there again?KnightRyder;1282266 wrote:this might be the second coming of braylon "manos de piedra" edwards. -

Did you notice the caveat of "for his 4th NFL game"?Mulva;1282213 wrote:The standard of amazing has apparently plummeted.
I didn't say he looked amazing compared to Tom Brady, I said compared to most pocket passing rookie QBs, he looked amazing last night.
Food for thought...
After 4 games in his career Brandon Weeden's stats...
90-167 (54%) for 997 yards (6.0 yrd/att), 3 TD, 7 INT, pass rating 60.4
Peyton Manning's stats from his first 4 games in 1998.
81-146 (55%) for 992 yards (6.8 yrd/att), 3 TD, 11 INT, pass rating 52.1
Weeden has 2 300 yard passing games in his first 4 games, he is doing quite well for a rookie who has WRs that can't catch.
Remember, in 1998 Peyton already had Marshall Faulk and Marvin Harrison on his team. -

Yeah, I saw these stats. Someone over on the OBR posted a laundry list of excellent QB's that Weeden has already outplayed, numbers-wise.jmog;1282279 wrote:Did you notice the caveat of "for his 4th NFL game"?

These types of comparisons mean absolutely nothing. Im pretty sure every rookie QB that has started the last 3 years had better stats than those(mannings). Aside from maybe Gabbert.jmog;1282279 wrote:Did you notice the caveat of "for his 4th NFL game"?

BR1986FBOh, I know. Not a whole lot in the way of WR's on that list. Best available would probably be Mike Wallace and I think he'll re-sign with Pittsburgh.

Wed have to overpay which im 100% ok with. We dont have many players worth giving bigger contracts to anyway.OQB;1282347 wrote:It was the best list I could find...not like we are going to get any of them anyways. -

I may be wrong but they will likely want to look into re-signing Alex Mack & Joe Haden long term. That will be interesting with Joe Banner coming aboard.Rotinaj;1282352 wrote:Wed have to overpay which im 100% ok with. We dont have many players worth giving bigger contracts to anyway.
