    Well that isn't realistic. If they keep Varejao in pursuit of an unrealistic goal that would be a mistake.

    Same for overpaying for Anderson Varejao — an elite rebounder/banger/defender who's playing out of his mind right now — if Cleveland ever decided that they were better off converting him into draft picks and tanking 2012 over drifting into no-man's land (the fringe of the lottery, where it becomes impossible to improve your team). The Celtics, Clippers, Mavericks, Rockets, Nuggets and Grizzlies could offer 2012 no. 1's plus expiring contracts plus $3 million plus a young player with potential for Varejao. Hell, if I were Danny Ainge, I'd offer O'Neal's expiring, my 2012 no. 1 AND the Clippers' no. 1 for him.[SUP]2[/SUP] Wouldn't you take your chances with a Rondo-Allen-Pierce-Garnett-Varejao quintet this spring? Or am I just a complete homer? That reminds me …

    2.Another plus with Varejao: He has a terrific contract. $7.7 million this year, then $27 million for the next three. I can't imagine Cleveland dealing him unless they got two picks back. And even then … maybe not. Although people LOVE this draft. It's twice as deep as normal, so if you end up with the 20th pick, it's really like having the 10th pick in a normal season. Or so they claim.

    Only because of the amnesty clause. If the amnesty clause didn't exist, would you want Baron on our team this year? I wouldn't it would have stunted Kyrie's growth, imo.

    If taking on an absolutely terrible contract means getting a lottery pick this year for Andy, I'm unsure how I would feel.

    I am in the keep Varejao camp. But if they can get a #1, a young player w/ potential (or a 2nd #1 pick) and expirings for AV, then yes I make the deal.

    But, with Ainge stating a few weeks ago that he would be willing trade parts of the Big 3 to add assets, I would be very surprised to see the Celtics trade off both picks in this draft.

    I do know that Simmons has LOVED Andy for a long time. Back when LeBron was on the team, I remember he had Andy like in his Top 20 players in the league as far as most value to their team.

    Alonzo Gee is quickly becoming a fan favorite, he is a completley different player from last year and hes still only 24.

    Also, for christ sake will Sessions please stop wasting 10 seconds running around with the ball before doing anything. Luke Harangody took some of the worst shots Ive ever seen in my life last night.

    Who the fuck was stupid enough to say that? If anything, Andy should be playing as many minutes as humanly possible for two reasons.

    1. After Irving, he's definitely the best player on the team. And when you count the rebounds, hustle and flopping, you could say he's currently the best. At least the heart of the team. Regardless of what some may say about his defensive "tactics", he gets results and helps the team. And serves as that "glue guy" who does all the little things a team needs if they want to win.

    2. If the goal is to trade him for more draft picks, the more he plays and the more he does, the more you'll get for him. The longer he averages a double-double with starter minutes, the more appealing he'll look to teams looking to get over the hump as the season goes on.

    And the standing image: one that can’t help but convey the idea that this team is one scoring threat away from becoming a playoff contender.
    One can't help but not care about competing for the 8 seed in the Eastern Conference. Making the playoffs in the NBA isn't an accomplishment. It's statistically harder not to get in.

    A playoff appearance for the Cavs would be be bad in the sense that it would have them picking outside of the lottery and good in the sense that it would give the young guys (particularly Irving) playoff experience.
