2011 Cleveland Cavalier Offseason/Draft

BTW...forgot to mention that when Grant was on WKNR yesterday that he did say that they WERE "very interested" in Lighty.
  • Commander of Awesome
Oh I like that. Lighty was a hell of a defender and can guard 3 positions depending on the size of the other teams #3. I could see him having a Bruce Bowen's type of career if he works on his shot.

Fedor was live in Independence with the news that at 4. The Cavs were going to either take Jonas, move down, or take someone else. And he said it as if he was breaking news.

I have a question for someone who knows more than me......

If there is no NBA season....how would the draft order be determined for next year?

Someone told me that it would go simply by record from the previous played season

Nobody knows 100%, but the only thing that would make logical sense to me is by taking previous season records and "redoing" the lottery to establish a new drafting order.

SHH at drafting Thompson. I have real problems with people who shoot less than 50% at the free throw line. These people have to be off the floor at crunch time. Why not draft the big from Europe whose last name began with V? This team neede a true big....not a 4 with no shooting touch. We already have a few of those.

Jonas V is a true big? Dude was getting pushed around in Euro ball.. No thank you.

I guarantee Thompson improves his FT shooting. And to say he has no shooting touch, you must have never seen him play. Just because he doesn;t have a great jump shot doesn't mean he has "no touch"... He was very good around the basket.

To me the pick suggested they didnt have the patience to wait on Jonas V. I have no idea why they thought they needed somebody so similiar to Hickson. The only difference is that Thompson isnt as athletic and cant shoot free throws

    LOL, WHAT?

Jonas V will be a bust. GTFO.

Thompson and JJ are not similar at all. Thompson is much more powerful around the basket, he's more of a clean up guy and gritty defender and an EXCELLENT shot blocker.

The Cavs were kinda handcuffed at that #4 spot. Ddint wanna take a chance on any of the Euro bigs who are either feast or famine(usually famine) and there was nobody in the draft big man wise from college bball really worth picking

It's amazing how these Euro big men continue to fool guys. Jonas V is weak as shit and not a true big. He's a stretch man and he's soft as shit.

Dirk Nowitzki is shaking his head at this.

If they really liked Thompson, they should have traded back. Nobody else valued him nearly as high. Could have traded back, picked up value and still got their guy

I don't think its just Euro big men. I think most 7 footers who flounder were highly thought of in the first place because "you can't teach size".

    Jonas V is no Dirk.

And for every Dirk, there is 50 Darkos.

Charlotte wanted TT. The local paper talked about him a lot leading up to the draft. They moved up to 7 hoping for TT but got their own Kid Congo.

Not true at all.. Charlotte wanted Thompson and traded up to 7 in hopes to get him.

Hollinger had Thompson as the 3rd best player in the draft.

I dont knkow how they continue to fool people lol. They always look so talented and smooth on tape, then you get em in a game with american style (WAY more physical ) and they crumble. Dirk going off in the playoffs this year probably also made people think they want to get the next player like that lol

I like Hickson, but let's be honest here, Hickson is a role player at best, and he's nowhere near as good as most Cavs fans thinks he is. Thompson is already the better player, and its not even close.

yeah, and dirk was considered soft up until that point. It is just a completely different "finesse" style game over there. I personally would never want a big euro on the Cavs roster...now guards on the other hand, they seem to adjust a little better.

This page of the thread further proves that jordo has no clue what he's talking about and usually just talks just to talk

You don't have to be nice, you can say he talks out of his ass.

Ehh, if you choose to buy draft hype, then that's on you.

One thing that is widely agreed upon (I've heard multiple people say it) is that Cleveland did not get the 4th best player available with their pick in the draft.

is Thompson better than John Wall? John Wall "sucks" right?
