  We've always talked about between friends if Lerner would drop his EPL team and pair up with Gilbert to buy the Indians.

  If Lerner dropped anything it'd probably be the Browns. He's a BIG soccer fan and Aston Villa is his baby.

  This was probably just a rough draft and I wouldn't be surprised to see the teams revisit the deal. Cleveland could offer up Ramon Sessions or something.. I'd assume if we're looking at Williams, JJ will be on the block.

  Detroit is giving up the 8th pick in a weak draft to save $25mil and they won't do it? I bet they cave.

  If any deal goes down with the top 10 picks, it will happen on draft night. Cleveland could easily add ANYONE on their roster since no one is safe.
  
  Minnesota won't pass up 2 1st rounders and Detroit won't pass up money relief.

  I agree with this..
  
  Though I'd LOVE to get David Lighty in the 2nd round.. I think he'd be a great defender and could turn into a knock down 3 point shooter... Plus he loves Cleveland.

  I'm agree with this which is why I am still on the fence about this trade
  
  If the Cavs are positive that Williams is there guy than I'm OK with it. If they like Kanter than I would hold off.
  
  I guess it depends on how the Cavs grade these guys

  The Cavaliers were in talks with the Detroit Pistons and Minnesota Timberwolves for a deal that would give them the top two picks in the draft, according to an ESPN.com report Saturday. One league source outside the Cavs organization confirmed talks as ''very, very preliminary,'' and another debunked the idea of the Pistons getting involved.
  
  With the first and fourth picks and a hefty trade exception at their disposal, the Cavs have the potential to be one of the more active teams before the NBA Draft on June 23.
  
  In the proposed deal, as reported by ESPN, the Cavs would absorb Richard Hamilton with their trade exception and get the Pistons' No. 8 pick in the draft as compensation for swallowing the remaining $21.5 million on his deal.
  
  The Cavs would negotiate a buyout package for Hamilton, making him free to sign with any team. Then they would send the fourth and eighth picks to the Timberwolves for the second pick and use it on Arizona forward Derrick Williams after selecting Duke point guard Kyrie Irving first overall.
  
  All of that seems unlikely, however, given the looming lockout that will slice off a portion of the money owed to Hamilton. That makes his contract a little more bearable for the Pistons.
  
  The Cavs and Pistons discussed a deal involving Hamilton at the trade deadline in February, but that was for picks in the 2012 draft. The Pistons have remained steadfast throughout the season they wouldn't deal their lottery pick in this draft, making it unlikely they would deal it now and get nothing in return but cap relief.
  
  Then there is the fact the Cavs are a couple of weeks away from finalizing their draft board.
  
  With so much at stake, they are taking their time and doing a thorough review of all the draft-eligible players. That includes Irving, who played a total of 303 minutes in college and is coming off an injury that cost him most of his one season at Duke.
  
  He'll likely wind up as the choice at No. 1, but the Cavs aren't ready yet to say that definitively. That makes it hard to believe they're ready to make a deal that will move them from fourth to second when they haven't even finalized who to take at No. 1.
  
  Decisions, decisions
  
  With the collective bargaining agreement set to expire in about a month and no real signs of progress, a likely lockout has left the Cavs in a predicament with their trade exception.
  
  The Cavs have until July 9 to use the $14.5 million trade exception they obtained in the LeBron James deal with the Miami Heat. But the lockout is set to begin July 1, rendering the final nine days of the trade exception worthless.
  
  The Cavs have petitioned the league to have the final nine days tacked on to the new season. If granted, it would give the Cavs nine days after the lockout was lifted to use whatever part of the exception they had remaining. But the Cavs have no idea whether or not the league will grant the request, and they don't expect to hear an answer from the league until after the lockout is lifted. That leaves them flying a bit blindly between now and then.
  
  If the Cavs don't use the exception between now and the draft, they're likely not going to use it the final week of June. That gives them a little less than four weeks now to weigh any offers for the trade exception and decide whether or not to use it or chance trying to roll it over until after the lockout.
  
  If the Cavs elect to hold onto most or all of the exception through the lockout and the league grants the request, it would suddenly become a very powerful tool — particularly if there is a hard cap and other teams around the league are forced to shed salary.
  
  But if the league doesn't grant the request, the exception will have expired and they'll get nothing for it.
  
  As a result, the Cavs will operate from now until the draft as if the exception expires July 1. If they agree on a deal they like, they'll use the exception now. If not, they'll plan on it expiring. Then if the league grants the request, it will be an added bonus.

  That trade is good if you think Williams and Kanter will both be gone. I would call bluffs though. Minnesota will take one of them (Kanter imo) and the Jazz just traded their PG and need one. Thus at this point you are assued of one of them.
  
  Do the Pistons trade and then keep the pick as a chip or even make the pick and keep the player

  I wish the league would let the Cavs know ahead of time. I dont want to see the TPE go to waste but I would rather wait to see what happens after the lockout.

  Read someplace that Detroit is counting on the labor problems to end up cutting one year off Hamilton's pricey contract, and that they would be able to hand his salary for one year and not have to make the trade.

  The purposed amnesty clause would take some money of Rip's contract which would relieve some pressure financially.
  
  Chris Broussard was correct and this is also something that has come out too.

They don't appear to be that desperate to unload Hamilton's contract, especially with the new CBA likely containing some type of amnesty clause.
  
  Expect the Cavaliers and Timberwolves to keep looking for a partner to get this deal done, though, and maybe sweeten the offer to make Detroit reconsider. Sources have made it clear that the Timberwolves are seeking a taker for their top first round pick mainly because they don't have a major need for Derrick Williams, the best value at that spot, and would prefer to trade down and potentially grab a center and shooting guard instead"
  
  So it seems that Minnesota and Cleveland will be trying to work something out all the way until the draft.

  There is no way Derrick Williams falls to 4. If Minnesota doesn't want him they will try like hell to trade the pick to someone who does want him. If he happens to fall to the Jazz, they wouldn't hesitate to take him and play him at the 3. Utah doesn't have to have a PG. They have Devin Harris who isn't a star, but he is only 28 and is good enough if they think they are getting an all-star SF. The only way we get Williams is to trade up.
  
  I'm not a huge fan of Williams because I think he has to play the 4 in the NBA, and he will probably be a liability defensively at the 4. He certainly can't guard 3s though, and he doesn't have the handles to play the perimeter offensively. Still, if he can at least become adequate defensively he could be one the top PFs in the league, so I am much higher on him than whatever Euro-scrub we would get at 4 or whatever unathletic 4 year college guy we would get at 8 in this draft. Even if we have to throw in a little more to make it happen we have to do it.
