Blue Jackets season thread

If they can win 4 out of the next six though, look out. Big, big game against Phoenix on Friday, need that momentum heading into the road trip. After the roadie though, they have 17 remaining games - 10 home games, 7 away. The schedule sets up well after that - most of the toughest games (Vancouver, Chicago, Detroit, Boston) are at home.
    vs Nashville W
    vs Phoenix W
    @ Nashville
    @ Vancouver
    @ Edmonton
    @ Calgary
    @ St. Louis

60 games, 68 points. Can we get to 65 and 74?

I'd be very happy with 6 points in those 5. All it takes is a loss at Nashville to make that near impossible.

    Updated:

    1. Vancouver 62 39 87
    2. Detroit 61 37 80
    3. San Jose 63 36 78
    4. Phoenix 63 33 75
    5. Los Angeles 61 34 72
    6. Minnesota 62 33 72
    7. Calgary 63 31 71
    8. Chicago 61 32 70
    ------------------------------
    9. Dallas 61 32 70
    10. Nashville 61 31 70
    11. Anaheim 62 32 69
    12. Columbus 60 31 68

I like that we catch Nashville on the second of a back-to-back (they play Dallas this afternoon). Today's wishlist:

Stars and Preds ends in regulation
    Avs over Kings in regulation

First seems probable, second seems impossible. We'll see ... go Jackets

I've watched hundreds of CBJ games in the past 10 years and last night's performance after the first 10 minutes or so was the best end-to-end hockey I can remember seeing them play. The D was stellar, Mason was able to see the shots coming, the passes out of our zone were spot on, the checking was phenomenal, Clark played well (which I can't say very often), Voracek was buzzing all over the place, Umby was a beast, and Calvert is indeed the next coming of Kevin Dineen. They are a blast to watch and cheer for when they play like this. The 'yotes did everything they could to neutralize Nash, but they didn't have enough bodies to look after the other 17.

I hope they can keep this style and pace for a longgg time. :)

Fantastic game last night. Wow, what a response.
It was sort of tampered after the rest of the games last night went into OT, moving the Jackets back down to 12th.

Still this 5 game stretch is the season in my view. If they can get points in 4 out of 5, I think they can make the playoffs. Otherwise, it is going to be tough as everyone in the West is playing well enough to keep the Jackets at bay.

Jackets pick up Craig Rivet off waivers today:

Older steady stay at home defenseman. Nothing earth shattering.
Going to have to keep getting points in the West. They are going to make the playoffs. We are going to get healthier and an important piece. I'd like to see us grab that 6 spot which is entirely possible.
BTW how many hats hit that ice? Man I've never seen so many.

Two teams ahead of the Jackets are playing right now: Stars and Preds. Here is hoping the game doesn't head to OT.

Grizzly vet may help more in the lockeroom than on the ice. May provide some 2nd or 3rd line support.

On a up note, the Stars beat the Pred 3-2 in regulation more importantly.

    Jackets hopes today:

Jackets over Preds in regulation (duh)
    Blues over Flames in regulation
    Coyotes over Blackhawks in regulation
    Avs over Ducks in regulation

Those things happen and we're in 9th place at the end of the day, one point back of 8th with 3 games in hand on Calgary.
  • ptown_trojans_1
Preds will be tough as they will be looking to avenge that beatdown the Jackets put on them. I expect a tough, hard hitting, close game that will be decided late. Hopefully, the Jackets can pull out at the very least a point.

    LETS GO JACKETS
  • osudarby08
They definitely need points in 4 of the 5 games on this road stretch, or atleast 3 wins. Their season will be decided in the next week and a half...GO JACKETS!

    Hmm, Garon is in net.
Not a fan, but let's see what happens.

    What's wrong with Matty?

There was a stretch in Nov/Dec where Mason was in la-la land and he was all we had.

No idea, no mention in the broadcast. They just mention that he is on the bench and Garon is in net. Garon hasn't been bad, just made an ok save there. Jackets have been in control of the puck most of the game so far, just no good chances.

Calvert with a goal .. Jackets up 1-0 in the 3rd. Gotta hold on!
  • gorocks99
And Shea Weber gets the power play tally to tie it at 1 ... dang..
  • gorocks99
2-1 Preds. Jackets really pissing this one away ...
  • gorocks99
    TIED IT UP! Huge goal!
  • gorocks99
Annnnd Nashville scores with less than 2 to play to go up 3-2. Disappointing to say the least.
  • gorocks99
Garon folded massively in this one. Pissed that we let it get away.

Yeah that last goal was allll him. Way to give up the rebound to the side with the unblocked attacker coming on.
I appreciate his effort at the start of the season, but he has really been shaky lately.
So frustrating to see the Jackets with the man advantage less than 3 minutes to go, yet lose on a late goal.
They really let at least a 1point slip away there.
