Dan Gilbert Basically Telling LeBron... F U

AutomatikDude he put a freaking curse on LeBron and guaranteed a championship before Miami. That is about as retarded as you can get.

mucalum49Windy on WKNR stating that he knew for a while that he was going to the Heat. Also said Gilbert paid Maverick and the Lebrontourage more than some assistant coaches.

That was an embarrassment.
Then you and Dynasty are ignorant fucks.
The NATIONAL MEDIA is RIPPING APART James for his selfishness and his ego, and doing this to his hometown under the circumstances he did, but yet somehow when we echo that same opinions, we're the ones who are wrong (in you and Dynasty's eyes)?
Get a clue you idiot.
What Gilbert did was low, but what James did was even lower. That's why the national media taking a much harsher tone with James than Gilbert.
But since you two are two stupid to realize that, I guess ignorance is bliss. -

nah, from where I'm sitting, putting a hex on James is pretty awesome (in a funny kind of way, because if i'm not laughing i'm sulking, so I'd rather laugh) -
se-alumObviously, Gilbert knew the real LeBron James, the side he, for the most part, kept hidden from the fans. The way James talked last night was unlike anything I've ever heard from him. It was all about what HE has done for Cleveland, and how good HE is. It was disgusting to watch, and I never thought he would do that to Cleveland, but now that we know the real LeBron, i'm not surprised by it. He's gonna win championships that do nothing to help his legacy. If MJ won championships teamed up with Magic and Malone, do you think he would still be thought of as the greatest ever?? I don't.

But it's not too much to ask him to be respectful on the way out. In this case promotion took precedence over protocol. He strung everyone along, tried to build the drama at the expense of the common courtesy of notifying teams of his plans so they could get about constructing their teams.
Everyone associated with this looks bad.
We in the media looked bad because sources we trusted kept changing their opinion, and none of those sources was James himself. Even he probably changed his opinion. The public -- not just sports fans -- that got drawn into it were suckers, too. I've had so many "where's LeBron going?" texts from people who haven't bothered to ask me a single other question in months that I just stopped answering. I also stopped because I didn't have a firm answer. No one did. We got sent on a wild ride with a constantly shifting destination.
We got played, but in reality the people in James' camp played themselves. They came off as disrespectful not just to Cleveland, but to New York, Chicago, New Jersey and especially the Los Angeles Clippers (who had nothing more than frequent flier miles to show for their trip to Cleveland).
They were brought in, then shut out as the process entered its final hours. And the boss who had tailored his franchise to LeBron's every whim, whether it be granting his wishes to let members of his circle fly on the team charter or sit behind the bench, or whatever suited the star player, wasn't repaid with a little courtesy on the way out. -

LeBron's hometown is Akron. I don't fully agree with how he went about it, but I still think Gilbert's reaction was worse by a LONG SHOT. That dude is a moron, but Cleveland supporters defending him is not surprising at all.
Cleveland supporters....biggest joke of a fanbase in all of sports....I've said it over and over.
Also, I appreciate the name calling....stay classy. It just echoes my earlier statement....Cleveland fans=morons. -

So you haven't watched ESPN since the "Decision" was made?? The anchors on Sportscenter last night were laughing while reading Gilbert's letter. Mark Jackson ripped Gilbert. Stuart Scott (yeah I know but he is part of the national media) ripped Gilbert. Colin Cowherd and John Kincade have both ripped Gilbert on the Herd. Cowherd said an agent texted him last night and said he would never send one of his clients to play for the Cavs under Gilbert. He came off sounding like a whiny bitch and its pretty sad.lhslep134;417746 wrote:The NATIONAL MEDIA is RIPPING APART James for his selfishness and his ego -

I certainly hope you're not naive to place an entire group of people in one category.
While I don't support everything Dan Gilbert said, there certainly seemed like a lot of douchebaggery from Lebron that took place behind the scenes that Gilbert just seems itching to release to the public.
And don't tell me Lebron's hometown (team at least) isn't Cleveland. His house sits 25 minutes from the Q. I know a lot of people that live 25 minutes from downtown Chicago who consider Chicago their hometown. Akron, for all intents and purposes, is a giant suburb of Cleveland, at least the northern end in Bath where Lebron lives.
Regardless, I said on the thread I started I wasn't mad at Lebron for leaving, just with the entire way he handled this.
If he holds a small press conference in Cleveland not on national tv thanking Cleveland for their support for 7 years but now he's going to chase championships, his legacy is still tarnished by not winning on his own, but his ego and reputation don't take the major hit that they do. -

My point is, they're ripping James a lot more than Gilbert.
I never said Gilbert wasn't wrong. -
gutGilbert's response may have been a well-crafted marketing piece - many of the CLE fans are loving it.
Think about it....You have limited cap space and have had the best of FA pass you by while Lebron keeps you hanging. It's not going to be a good team next year. Fans are heartbroken and feel betrayed. What Gilbert has done is to rally the fans telling them what they want to hear. I think he almost has a "loveable losers" thing potentially happening here.
Not saying that was his intention or plan, but it could prove to be very effective. His primary concern is putting asses in seats, and in that regard it doesn't matter what fans around the rest of the league think of his statement. He made a strong appeal to the loyalty of the fans, and I think it will work for a while with the whole "they may not be very good, but at least it's MY team and they WANT to play for us" -

Just to follow up this point. Windy said that Chicago would not agree to continue this type of behavior while the Heat agreed to continue to pay the Lebrontouragemucalum49;417728 wrote:Windy on WKNR stating that he knew for a while that he was going to the Heat. IggyPride00I love Rizzo this morning on KNR saying about Gilbert "when you go to bed with a Ho, you wake up with a Ho."
That was in response to Windy's claim about how Gilbert was paying Lebron's boys and all the other stuff he had to do just to keep Lebron happy. -

Agreed. I think what struck me a little bit, too, was the ease with which he left. Insincere is the impression I got, very insincere. From his very vague "I struggled...changed my mind a lot" to the "I did this for CLE, I did that for CLE"... I could understand how CLE fans who gave him undying admiration feel like he just bitch slapped them. Not saying he should have been emotional, but I just felt like he was saying "your welcome" to a town that gave him so much rather than "thank you". Then again, why expect less from an egomaniacal narcissist? -

Exactly. It seems like "The Letter" is getting more negative attention than the decision. -

Jordan had Scottie Pippen. Magic had Kareem, who left a team to join up. Bird had Parish, who left a team to join up. Tell me which of these Hall of Fame careers is tainted by the fact that they played with other great players, whether that was leaving to go somewhere else or bringing in a ringer?
I also find the whole "Gilbert hid the real LeBron" thing hilarious. So he is basically saying that LeBron was always a jackass, but he just kept him around to ............. make money for himself or ride his back to a title? If he disliked LeBron all along, why didn't he cut the ties himself? Gilbert is like the woman you bang a thousand times who goes around saying the sex was never any good after you dump her. Stupid bitch, Dan Gilbert. -
