I haven't read the rest of it but I heard this morning that he'd be making the announcement in a "neutral city" that wasn't in the running. I don't think that bodes well for the Cavs. Until this Bosh thing went down I thought it was a 99% lock he stayed in Cleveland. Now with Bosh to Miami and possibly announcing it at a neutral site, I think it could be Chicago.

The thing about this that really pisses me off is that you always hear the comparisons of Lebron to Jordan. Jordan would have never pussied out and joined forces with the Pistons or Celtics. He would have considered it a challenge and would have taken them on himself. If Lebron is the GOAT, as many refer, he should consider Bosh snubbing him for Miami a slap in the face and motivation to take his ass down in the city that Bosh snubbed, CLEVELAND.

Agree with the challenge comment. I think the NBA is a league where players hang out together in the off season and have known each other since AAU circuits and summer camps that a rivalry doesn't really exist. Outside of the media bringing back a Lakers/Celtics rivalry there isn't a heated battle to be found in the league where two teams or players really despise one another. Kobe and some of the older guys have that killer instinct but it seems more like the young stars of the league worry about being well liked and playing with friends than looking at their situation with that challenge mentality.

I agree that an hour long special is over the top and unnecessary. But he is taking something that has been a huge story and turning it into a positive thing for the Boys and Girls Club. Everyone wants this story. Why not let it do some good in the process?

And if you will notice, my original question was BEFORE this...what has he done to be a media whore in regards to free agency? Nothing.

He would've known after the way the playoffs ended if staying in Cleveland was the answer.

There is no way a competitive person would've had that kind of disappointing exit and then not have the burning desire to go after it again.

He'd still be coming back to the same haunted memory that he'll never be able to get past. A coward leaving the fight. Giving up just because winning a championship was proving to be a little bit difficult.

In the end, that's all this is about. If he leaves he is a loser. And a no good, SOB.

That's why he'll stay but it wouldn't have taken him even a month to realize this.

I will however say that, no matter how this works out for Cleveland, ESPN needs a solid challenger in the sports media world. They've simply gotten too big and have gotten out of control - it's sad really what that network has become. To me, it started with the Barry Bonds story, then Favre, then Tiger, then Roethlisberger, now their glee and contradictions of the LeBron saga takes the cake.... they are out of control. The way they beat a story to DEATH and make up stuff to cover the stuff they made up before that was proven wrong is maddening.

We'll see what happens, but either way it ends - on Friday morning I'll still be a CAVS fan...not a LeBron fan.

Bosh not wanting to play in Cleveland shows how smart he is.
If this holds true will be one of my fav players.

I remember reading on here how many so-called Cleveland fans will no longer root for Cleveland if James leaves nor will they root for him.

Well if James does leave I am going to be a huge fan.
  • thedynasty1998
So how else should he announce? Twitter? Just release a statement? I really don't see any other way he can play this out and satisfy people. He has kept completely quiet about everything and him announcing on TV is honestly the best route. Let people be a part of it. Let people feel like they were there with him in the decision. It will only make him more liked, IMO.

As for who said he should do in the press room of the Q, obviously he only does that if he picks the Cavs. He would never make it out alive if he picked elsewhere.

He is about to become much richer than he already is with a brand spankin new contract. Why doesn't he just donate some of that money to the Boys and Girls Club himself and spare us. To me the charitable donation was an attempt to justify this attention grab. Now when people bust his balls people scream "It's for a good cause!!"

Back in the day when Jordan returned he faxed the league with two words...."I'm Back!!"

Really? Maybe he thinks he can find a better employer? I guess every person that leaves a job for another position that they feel can improve their life is a coward as well. Get over yourself!

He's not everybody else. Lebron didn't make this process as big as it is. It's the media that did. Whether you like it or not, Lebron is bigger than anyone else and this is the best route for it.

Yep. I wonder if Lebron hired Brett Favre to be one of his boys or something. This just reeks of something Favre would do. I still can't be Favre hasn't done this yet. I always thought Favre was the biggest drama queen around.

Here's another time where Lebron should have been like Mike.

Really? I guess every person that leaves a job for $45 million less (Miami) or $30 million less (Chicago) that they feel can improve their life isn't an idiot, right? Get over yourself!

I understand ESPN has made him "bigger" than anybody else, but that doesn't mean Lebron has to give into it. What is the precedent for this? Who has done this before? Kobe and MJ haven't even stooped this low, and they actually have championships
  • BigAppleBuckeye
I have said from the beginning that Lebron staying in Cleveland would be a GREAT thing for basketball, so up front, I am the farthest thing from a Cavs "hater." That being said, why should this guy be crucified if he decides to leave? Put yourself in his shoes: this young man has lived in Ohio his whole life, and at the peak of his fame he has a chance to live it up in Miami or New York. Why is he a villain for entertaining this thought? Shelly Smith said there are concerns over his safety should he decide to leave the Cavs -- are you kidding me?
  • lhslep134
Lebron is capitalizing on the cumfest that ESPN has for him, and using it to make a TON of money for the girls and boys club.

If you construe that as anything other than an honorable act of charity, then you are a naive idiotic son of a bitch who has problems comprehending simple logic.

If Lebron had done anything in the past, like fab4runner said, to be a media whore, then I could see slight justification if chalking this announcement up to that. But since he hasn't, you're all fucking scumbags for criticizing Lebron for taking advantage of ESPN's love of him in order to donate money to charity.

I'm not sure if someone mentioned this because I didn't read all the posts, but I just heard on ESPN that Lebron WILL NOT announce his decision in Ohio. Bad sign?

It all depends on the circumstances.

In this case he would be a quitter 100 percent, all the way.

After what he established in Cleveland, the love affair along with the competitive team that kept growing and growing. But the major goal was getting that championship. He didn't get it.

So at some point over the past month or so he would've taken that drive, alone, in the car like Rocky in Rocky IV. With "No Easy Way Out" playing. With the flashback images of Rajon Rondo scoring at will, Garnett and Pierce celebrating at the Q, Kobe Bryant hoisting another trophy, all the Cleveland fans in the stands disappointed, and on and on, maybe even falling to the canvas. lol

And then he got back to the house said "I know I what I have to do."

Hey assclown, try READING for ONCE before you jump down someones throat. Non wasn't saying Lebron was an "SOB" or a "loser" for leaving. Most INTELLIGENT people would have taken his comments to mean that's how he will be perceived.

The way that Lebron tanked that game 5, if he leaves, he WILL be considered a "quitter", "loser", etc among many both locally AND nationally. He'll ALWAYS be "the guy not GOOD enough to get it done in Cleveland....the guy who took the easy way out."

Yup. Although I think the words "quitter" and "loser" will be among the most tame words used to describe Lebron by Cavalier fans if he leaves

Hey dickhead, tell me what I misread? So if he stays, he's not a SOB; but if he leaves, he is?
  • Con_Alma
I don't see him as a quitter. He agreed to a certain contract and made an attempt to win during that period. I see some of your points regarding the lack of effort in game five but resigning in Cleveland doesn't change that.

Call him a quitter in game five.

Not resigning has nothing to do with being a quitter. Maybe a failure for not getting done what he wanted.

He didn't agree to play here for life. He never has. He agreed to play for 7 years so far. He did...minus one game I guess. The team paid him and he played. He owes no more to this franchise than they owe him.
