Cleveland Cavaliers (current) off-season rumors
-
jpake1Cavs are still the leading team in my book. However, I might take the field. Can Gilber take advantage of a team, if so, LBJ stays. If not, well, it was a good run.
-
hoops23Food for thought:
LeBron is holding all of his free agent meetings with OTHER teams in OHIO. -
j_crazySo if you were called offshore for an emergency and hadn't been freed up to follow this at all and are posting from a rest stop what would the cliffnotes be for the cavs last 24 hrs.?

hoops23ESPN Insider article by Chris Broussard:
http://insider.espn.go.com/nba/insider/news/story?id=5327733&action=login&appRedirect=http://insider.espn.go.com/nba/insider/news/story%3fid%3d5327733Objective: Keep LeBron James.
Assets: James in a sign-and-trade deal or roughly $4 million in cap space if he walks.
The Plan: The Cavaliers' dream scenario is to complete a sign-and-trade for Chris Bosh. That would finally give James a perennial All-Star teammate and keep him in Cleveland. For this to work, the Cavs need Bosh to tell Toronto that Cleveland is the place he wants to be. This will mean that, in order to get something in return for Bosh, the Raptors will have to work a deal with the Cavs.
The Cavaliers would give the Raptors whatever they wanted, and it would probably be a package of Anderson Varejao, J.J. Hickson, Delonte West and either Jamario Moon or Anthony Parker, whichever one Toronto wants. The Cavs would rather keep Hickson, but if they have to give him up to keep The Franchise, they'll obviously do it.
Right now, Bosh isn't necessarily willing to force his way to the Cavs. He's open to joining LeBron in Cleveland, but it's not yet his top choice. If the Cavs can't get Bosh, or some other top-flight player, like Joe Johnson, they may not have enough talent to keep LeBron from leaving for greener pastures.
Alternative Advice: The Bosh scenario is clearly the best-case for the Cavs. If they pull that off, they should also try to sign Ray Allen for the midlevel exception. Boston may be willing to give Allen the midlevel as well, but the Cavs should give him four years, which should trump the Celtics' offer and convince Allen to go to Cleveland.
If the Cavs could find a way to get Chris Paul from New Orleans, that would also keep James in Cleveland. But that isn't very likely. It'll take much more than the Cavs can offer to get Paul, and since he's under contract for at least two more years, he can't force a sign-and-trade. -
sportswizuhrdWatched the Draft Review on NBATV the other night and they(David Aldridge and Ron Thompson) brought up some good points. Miami, New York and Chicago dont have the players for a sign-and-trade deal for Bosh unless a third team is involved. Toronto would have to orchestrate a deal like that with anyone outside of the Cavs, Nets and Clippers. If Bosh walks, they will probably trade Turkoglu back to Orlando(or just deal him regardless what Bosh does to the Magic or another team). DA said that Orlando now has the pieces to deal for Hedo with Bass, Anderson, Gortat, but no young players outside of Daniel Orton and Stanley Robinson.
Ive thought all along that the Raptors and Cavs should really try to get a third team involved to get Bosh to Cleveland.
As for Chris Paul, now that the Hornets traded Mo Pete, I believe they are under the luxury tax and now can keep their roster as is, if they decide to. -
devil1197The media only hears what it wants to hear.
How long did it take for the meeting between LeBron and Gilbert to surface? An entire week went by without a report, what would have happened if (assuming it was legal to do so) LeBron met with the owner of the Bulls/Knicks/Nets? That report would have been made known instantly.
After the meeting with Gilbert, the supposed LeBron tour starting July 1st is now canceled and teams come to him???
All the reports of players to such and such teams grow by the hour and its not even July. This is a circus created by the media and blamed on the players trying to make the biggest decision of their lives.
Its easy to say teams with the open cap space are in the lead but like I said Cleveland has the opportunity to pay Bosh, Johnson, or whoever it may be a true max contract via a S/T.
And LOL at the dumbass who thinks trading for cap space is stupid. Its done all the fucking time you idiot. -
jpake1If Bosh wants to go elsewhere, those teams have pieces. Bosh hasn't been very loyal with comments the past year, and Toronto hasn't had a real tough stance on a S&T. I think Bosh runs the show and the Raptors give in and take what they can from that team. It's the right choice without a doubt IMO. Even if a team like Miami just gives them their 1st rounder back. I think it's stupid not to do a sign and trade. If I were a GM, I'd never want to force a player to stay with this team. If you want to leave, fine, cya later. We'll take what chips we can and move on. I could never threaten a guy with money as a way to keep him on my squad. I'd rather get a pick or two than nothing as well. That's just me though.

Sources: #Cavs planning to meet face-to-face with Brian Shaw sometime in next two days. Offer to Shaw or Byron Scott could soon follow. -
devil1197Either coach would be fine, I'd lean towards possible Shaw but I believe we'll have our coach before July 1st.
-
hoops23I wouldn't mind Shaw. Brings an actual offense to the team, has won titles as a player and assistant and would most likely bring a good staff.
-
thedynasty1998Neither will accept until Phil Jackson decides, as both are hoping for the Lakers job.

Not sure if I'm the dumbass you are speaking of, but I made myself very clear when talking about a trade for cap space. -

No shit?
Phil is expected to decide within the coming up week..
The Cavs are expected to have a coach by next week. -
thedynasty1998Who is expecting a Cavs coach by next week? Certainly not me. Lebron won't be signed next week, whether it's Cleveland or someone else and I don't know if anyone takes that job until Lebron signs.
If the Lakers job does open up sometime next week, I'm sure the Lakers don't sign a coach within a couple days, so that drags it out another week.
If Jackson comes back for another year, maybe Shaw decides to wait another year on the Lakers bench. That leaves you Byron Scott, and what if he turns you down? -
hoops23There are only two open jobs in the NBA. The Clippers and the Cavs.
If Phil Jackson leaves, I think the Lakers go with Scott, which would then turn over the entire staff. I think Shaw takes the Cleveland job. A job is a job and even if LeBron leaves you know you have a great owner. -
thedynasty1998I really wonder how this all looks to Lebron. I'm sure he understands the situation the Cavs are in, but they haven't done anything since seasons end other than fire their coach and promote a GM from within.
I think if Byron Scott were in place now, it would increase the odds of Lebron staying, however without a coach and potentially Brian Shaw being the next coach in Cleveland, I don't know how you can look at that positively. -
hoops23Well obviously Brian Shaw is respected, or he wouldn't be in line for the Lakers job as well.. Not really sure what your point is there. Shaw has been learning under Phil Jackson.
Aren't you the one who was saying they were tired of teams hiring rehashed guys? Now the Cavs are looking at some new blood and you think it's an issue?
LeBron has said he would like a coach who has played and won championships. Both Shaw and Scott fit that mold. Shaw not only won titles as a player, but he also won them as an assistant coach.
Speaking of which, Brian Shaw IS IN Cleveland today to interview for the job. -
hoops23Windhorst now reporting that the Cavs will have a coach by Thursday.
Byron Scott has now said he is not willing to wait for Phil and wants the Cavs job with OR without LeBron James.
As I said in my previous post, Shaw is interviewing today with the Cavs and already has a second interview in line tomorrow with the Cavs as well. -
thedynasty1998Good news for the Cavs.
And no, I never said anything about fresh blood, in regards to a coach. I personally like Jeff Van Gundy and Byron Scott a lot! Not sure about Brian Shaw. I know every great coach gets a start somewhere, but Brian Shaw doesn't do it for me, although I wouldn't necessarily be disappointed with him.
I am a little surprised that Scott would say that though, considering the Lakers will likely know within a week, and from what I've heard the reigns are not necessarily being handed to Brian Shaw. -

Byron Scott shouldnt wait for Phil to make up his mind. Last time I heard the Lakers job wasnt promised to Scott OR Shaw. Scotts last two jobs ended poorly and Shaw has never been a headcoach. I know its their right to wait and see but if I were them I would jump at a chance to be a headcoach. -

I am willing to bet that if Kobe said that he wanted to stay in the Triangle offense....Scott is a no go for the Lakers. -
devil1197Cleveland will have their coach soon.
Shaw, who would be a top candidate for the Lakers job, is my personally choice. He'll have to prove his worth to Gilbert/Grant during the interview process tonight and tomorrow morning.
Scott wants to be the coach, just waiting for an offer but Cleveland wants to wait for the process with Shaw to be over with.
Either way expect a coach before July 1st. -
just_a_swimmerI can't wait for these next two weeks to be over. I am flat out sick and tired of the media except the guys who admit they have no clue. These guys that don't even mention Cleveland are delusional. Lebron may not sign but I guarantee you the cavs are on his list. If he leaves he will be just another good player. He might win a championship or two somewhere else but he will not build the dynasty he is looking for unless he stays at home. Chicago was no dynasty before Jordan. That is why I am pretty confident Lebron will not go to Chicago because that will always be the house that Michael built. Lebron wants his won legacy.
-
hoops23There is also some rumored tension between James inner circle.
Supposedly World Wide Wes and Maverick Carter have kinda butted heads. Basically, Wes wants LeBron to leave Cleveland because if he got LeBron to go to another team, Wes would have a lot of pull within the organization. Simply for the fact that he'd have been the one to 'seal' the deal. Wes will NEVER have that in Cleveland because Maverick Carter is THAT guy here.
Maverick, from the sounds of it, wants LeBron to stay in Cleveland. Let's remember, Maverick is LeBron's best friend, and I'm guessing the guy LeBron would most likely listen to for advice.
Maverick also feels that staying in Cleveland would help their marketing business because of the extra money LeBron could receive from the Cavs. -

Yeah my bad, I went back and looked, it was jordo who said those things about the coaches.
