Im sure most people agree they don't support this and will address it. maybe even a fine...but suspension for a guy who never has been charged with anything is over the line imo
Many contracts of people who are known in the public have some type of conduct clauses in them. I don't know Ben's contract, but there is a chance that his inappropriate behavior violated some clause of his contract.

I'm not sure why people keep trying to set the bar at whether someone is charged with a crime. An employee could embarrass my company in a number of ways that are not at all illegal. Does that mean I have no right to discipline said employee? Of course not. No different here.

Ive always been the type of person to sit back and see how a person/organization or whatever reacts to a certain situation. That shows me alot on how people react to an issue becuase to be honest...the bad act itself, whatever it is in life, can happen so quick, in an instant, and without much thought and be totally out of character.

If ya screw up...shit happens, and I can forgive...but I see how one reacts. Honest apology, changing ones ways after the fact, and taking your punishemtn like a man goes a long way, for me, in forgiveness and making amends.

    I agree....but there is one H U G E difference.

Most people you see in the police blotter they dont say where they work. Most people dont know where they work. They dont associate the crime with the company.

if you worked for ABC company. And it was all across the news that QCB, of ABC company was accused of raping......and it brought constant bad attention to your company I imagine you may get axed.

Fair or unfair, pro athletes are held to a diff standard. They are more public figures and they are the brand of the company. You dont see that in other aspects. it comes with the territory, with the money, with the fame. On one end it is unfair, but on the other end..they aer getting paid millions to play a sport so ya gotta take the good with the bad.

I know of a company that you werent allowed to wear your uniform to any place other than work and home. If you went any place afterwards you had to change out of it so if you were doing anything someone didnt like they wouldnt associate it with that company..which is a huge company.

One of the things that the Pittsburgh radio guy that was on Mike & Mike this morning mentioned was Ben's omission of an apology to the Pittsburgh fans. He said that the fans of Pittsburgh related well to the team and, usually, vice versa. The fact that he apologized to the Rooneys, the league, etc and forgot the fans will probably piss off a few fans according to this Pittsburgh radio guy.

Thats possible I didnt hear the apology but figured it wasnt gonna be much.

I feel that he wasnt gonna say much especially before the meeting with goodall. I expect him to apologize fully after said suspension is announced, whenever that may be. He needs to do alot to improve his image.

I know my buddies who have his jersey....plan on doing something with it nxt season at games...dont know what yet...to show their dissatisfaction of him. Yeah...like it makes any difference..i know it doesnt.

this does have alotta fans pissed off. It really does.

I saw a Yahoo (I believe) story that a shop keeper in Findlay(?), his home town, couldn't "give away" his jerseys or merchandise.

That's old news. I heard about that a while back. They have shipped in so many jerseys/sold so many jerseys that the market is over-saturated. Meaning everybody that wants a Roethlisberger jersey has one.

According to some steelers fans, if you bring up race, you are an idiot.

Make no mistake...when he starts throwing TD passes the cheers will be just as loud as they ever were. Playing well and winning does make fans forget for the time being. It is kinda sad..but in the end.....we all want a winner. At times I feel like I am a contradictory person on this subject. I will boo him to show dissatisfaction for what he has done....but I will also be happy and cheer when he wins and starts throwin TD passes.

In one sense it is like a family member or loved one that does somethhing bad. You still love them, you still support them, you still want them to succeed and will applaud them when they do. That is how we deal with athletes. Even when they do bad things we still hope they will get past it and succeed. BR doesnt know me from anyone, but he is a part of the steelesr organization. A team i loved before, and will long after, he is gone. I want him to succeed. I want the franchise to win. I wanna kick the shit out the browns and have no mercy. I wont forget what Ben did.....on a personal level I will still consider him a creep and a predator, but as a member of the steelers I will applaud his achievements as I do any member of the team. If he gets traded, or leaves after a contract, I will treat him ust like any other player who leaves the franchise...he is now the enemy when he plays the steelers.

Sure we would all love our players to be perfect role models, but ya know what, they are people just like us. They are a cross secton of America and some will fuck up. Just like some of our family members, and ourselves, will fuck up. All we can do and those who get into trouble can do is take their punishment, make amends, improve their behavior, and move on and be a better person.

That is what I will look for.

Then of course we will be pissed if the team loses when he is suspended, or he looks rusty when he comes back. It really is a two edges sword.

No. Just if you bring it up in the idiotic manner you did, where you suggested race was a motivating factor in the Rooneys trading Holmes...even though they are the owners of one of the few teams with a black head coach AND have a rule named after them that makes teams interview black candidates for coaching vacancies.

With Smizik, "for what it's worth" is the best disclaimer that can be put on something he's written.

From primarily reading his rants against the Pirates, he reminds me of a Pittsburgh version of a guy like "thedave", where he'll loudly trumpet every little mistake a team makes...but be strangely quiet when positive things happen.

    no, just you....

Although I do think br's comment pertaining to race is slightly off the wall as well. I do think he gets a small suspension though, I have always thought ~2 games, league enforced or team enforced.
  • thavoice
^^It doesnt mean any difference really..but i hope the league allows the team to do the suspension. Tells the players that you may skate from th eleague...but we ultimately will get ya.
Then the NFLPA wil fight it..and that is fine...steelers will fight back...and show them they mean business about this shit.

Mike Florio is a hack, period. A lot of pieces in that article are pure speculation.

Make whatever comment you want. I know PFT isn't the most reputable source but there are only TWO words that need to be taken from that article..."no comment." If this makes you feel better, it's a link from a local Pittsburgh paper FROM Florio's story...

I'm not talking about Rooney's "no comment".........if that makes you feel better.

He makes some big time speculations like the possibility of Ben being shopped around, that's crazy.
  • rock_knutne
No guessing in that article, pure facts.
  • Gblock
well if he must be suspended....suspend him two games 10/18/2010 and 12/10/2010
