I heard it on CNN radio as well.SportsAndLady;1798873 wrote:It was reported on Fox News earlier today, and I'm seeing a lot of people tweeting about it. Guess it's not been 100% confirmed though. -

Did he know someone at the club? What set him off? Why did he chose this place?
If it was radical Islam, why did he talk to the SWAT team, or why did it take so long for the situation to end?
Jumping to conclusions is short sited and may miss the entire rational. Do not assume anything.
It was ISIS. -

Gardens35Aggressive investigative reporting, coupled with law enforcement ' s straight talk has put the brakes on the spin machine.

Also, FWIW the largest mass shooting in US history occurred in 1890 at wounded knee.ptown_trojans_1;1798849 wrote:Worst mass shooting in US history. -

That's going to be something to really wrestle with. The issues of whether rights should be suspended for mere suspicion aside, it's perfectly reasonable why disqualifying reasons would be classified.Automatik;1798909 wrote:Ugh..

Meanwhile, in Chicago alone this weekend 4 were killed (that's actually really good!) with 32 wounded. The shock and outrage over this mass murder in Orlando is justified, but before we throw the baby out with the bathwater we should remember many more people die every week in drunk driving, gang violence, suicide and overdoses. Nor should we forget that domestic terrorism, in all its forms, is a far bigger issue than what might be slipping through our borders. -

I agree with what you're saying. Let's not forget about all the crazy shit that happens every day. But yet, people who are involved in illegal drugs, gangs, and or trying to hurt themselves or others are willingly doing that. You shouldn't have to worry for your life when you go to a night club.gut;1798952 wrote:That's going to be something to really wrestle with. Sadly, this is true. Mrs. Clinton on Good Morning America doing just that......breezes thru the Muslim/terrorist/ISIS components of the crime to focus on the "millions of responsible gun owners" who will support us in this fight.Spock;1798852 wrote:news media will push gun control narrative. -

Yep. Gays were the target. Guns were the means. Religion was the justification.raiderbuck;1798964 wrote:Gun nuts will argue it's radical Islam...liberals will argue that we need more gun control. Another day in America.
Not sure why it has to be one or the other, we should address all of these issues. -
Spockmoral decay is the problem.

I am neither of those things. Non-gun owner and politically right leaning but fairly moderate on many social issues.raiderbuck;1798964 wrote:Gun nuts will argue it's radical Islam...liberals will argue that we need more gun control. Another day in America.
With that said...how many lives could have been saved if somebody in that club was licensed CCW and properly trained and could have dropped that nut job?
I also fall into the category of people who think that legally or not...if he wanted to commit a mass shooting of that magnitude, obtaining that gun legally or not would not have mattered. Not letting him purchase a gun legally just would have been a bump in the road that he would have gotten around. -
AutomatikI read that a police officer was working at the club and exchanged fire with the gunman.
I can 't find the exact article or whether it's actually true or not. -

It's true. I read they exchanged gunshots at the door then the gunman went inside while the security guard was outside.Automatik;1798975 wrote:I read that a police officer was working at the club and exchanged fire with the gunman.

I know its a nice Rambo daydream, but a fucking trained cop couldn't stop him, what makes you think your mad skills could. -

Interesting, seeing as the best estimates (FBI) are that 200-250 people successfully protect themselves and/or others using a firearm daily. A fair-minded press might be interested in pointing out that statistic (and why the gun grabbers invent false reasons to deny it). Can't imagine why we never see that side of the story on a news broadcast.ZWICK 4 PREZ;1798990 wrote:lol

interesting.. seeing as an armed cop with more training than your run of the mill hillbilly was there and 50 people were killed and 53 more injured.. interesting .queencitybuckeye;1799002 wrote:Interesting, seeing as the best estimates (FBI) are that 200-250 people successfully protect themselves and/or others using a firearm daily. ZWICK 4 PREZface it.. i have no doubts a ccw is fine and dandy when a punk kid wants to steal your wallet.. but your ccw aint doing shit when a heavily armed mad man with more firepower than you with intentions to kill everyone is shooting at you.. this incident proves it. if a cop was overpowered, you aint doing a god damned thing.

Yeah I don't believe CCW helps here although I do support CCW.ZWICK 4 PREZ;1799006 wrote:face it.. i have no doubts a ccw is fine and dandy when a punk kid wants to steal your wallet.. but your ccw aint doing shit when a heavily armed mad man with more firepower than you with intentions to kill everyone is shooting at you.. this incident proves it. if a cop was overpowered, you aint doing a god damned thing.
We need stronger background checks for guns and a ban on assault rifles. There's no way a guy on the FBI list as a terrorist sympathizer should ever be allowed to buy guns. -

That's the main thing I got from this. Dude's on FBI watch lists, but still gets to buy what he wants with all the freedom that any of us would. Doesn't make sense.sleeper;1799008 wrote:Yeah I don't believe CCW helps here although I do support CCW.

He was "cleared" by the FBI after those investigations. Kind of a slippery slope to say the second amendment is no longer available to you if you've ever been talked to by law enforcement for a violent crime.Heretic;1799011 wrote:That's the main thing I got from this. Not saying I disagree with your premise, just don't think there's a perfect fix to this issue. -
fish82The FBI has stated that the guy was never on a formal "watch list," merely that they looked into him in relation to a couple of cases they were working, but found nothing that justified keeping them there.
Thus, he bought the guns legally and passed the background checks.
And FWIW, I find the "AR-15/assault rifle" assclench pretty amusing. It's not an "assault rifle."
It has the the exact same specs and function as dozens of popular hunting rifles. It "looks scary" though...so people lose their shit over it.
