The Democratic Party is also a symbol of slavery. Should things be locked into what they stood for 150 years ago, or can meanings change over time?isadore;1738585 wrote:The flag of a state created for the purpose of protecting slavery by destroying the Union. -
isadoreDecent institutions and individuals move toward tolerance and enlightenment during their existence. This can be seen in the life of Abraham Lincoln, the Greatest of Presidents and Republicans as he moved to abolition and black suffrage. During the existence of the Confederacy it remained tied to slavery. The Democratic Party over its continuing it has moved toward more tolerant and enlightened views on race, gender and sexual orientation. The Republican Party moved in the opposite direction from enlightenment to bigotry. Most Americans have moved to more enlightened views on issues such as sexual orientation, but some continue to rave about homosexuality being “disgusting.”<o></o>

Yeah, and after the reacting, the overreacting is definitely in full swing in ultimate "Now we gotta pretend like we never used that flag!!!" mode. I mean, dumping the Dukes? Pure stupidity.bigorangebuck22;1738606 wrote:What did you expect? This is America. We don't just react we overreact. -

Lincoln lived in the most racist period in American history. Almost all white Americans had racist views. What Lincoln showed was the ability to move toward a more enlightened view on slavery and to become the ultimate abolitionist. Lincoln and the large majority of the country did not believe he had the power to order the end of slavery throughout the country in the same way a President did not believe today he could order gay marriage to be legal throughout the country. The various Supreme Courts in the antebellum period did not see themselves as having that power and most were pro slavery anyhow. The 14[SUP]th[/SUP] Amendment with its “equal protection” clause did not come until the Reconstruction Era. That clause would later be the basis for ending segregation, allowing interracial and gay marriage. He was able to use his war time powers to issue the Emancipation Proclamation but that could constitutionally only apply to those areas under active rebellion. It did allow the advancing Union armies to free many slaves but not all. Lincoln showed his growing enlightenment on racial issues by pushing the 13[SUP]th[/SUP] Amendment ending slavery through Congress and supporting suffrage for educated African Americans and Black war veterans.<o></o>BR1986FB;1738615 wrote:Yeah, Mr Pinko might want to glance over #2 on this before slobbering all over Lincoln's knob....

Nice cut & paste job, trying to pass it off as your own opinion. Kudos to Lincoln for abolishing slavery but if you think that he believed that blacks & whites were "equals" you're more delusional than you come across.isadore;1738623 wrote:Lincoln lived in the most racist period in American history. gosh a ruddies I don't need to cut and paste on this subject, I know it. Lincoln was becoming increasing enlightened on his racial opinions, when he was assassinated because he advocated suffrage for educated African Americans and black veterans.BR1986FB;1738627 wrote:Nice cut & paste job, trying to pass it off as your own opinion. "Thou (you) are weighed in the balances (scales) and found wanting." Wanted and wanting have very different meanings.Belly35;1738635 wrote:Isadore look at your text the font when you type your idea and opinions are in Verdana font, when you cut a paste the last post and others and now claiming its your is texted in font Calibri .... .... you have been weighted and balance and found wanted -

Gosh a ruddies dummy, most replies on here given the intellectual level of the person I am responding to require minimal thought so I just type it there. When I actually have to write something a little more complicated Gosh, I use Word. I did use Word this time even though responding to you required minimal mental effort.BR1986FB;1738647 wrote:Gosh a ruddies, dumbfuck....if you can POST on here in regular font, you sure as Hell aren't "writing it on word perfect" and then bringing it over here.
