A Cruel Prank

your stated sympathy for the victim is neglible.
And your attitude toward the crime “
a fraternity hazing/initiation ritual” or Porky's style prank” They attacked and humiliated this young man. Even in Porky’s they did not attack the handicapped. Toward the perpetrators of this atrocity: your worry is for them“so that they can grow up productive members of society without having to carry an excessive lifelong burden created by that mistake.” These were not preteens who did this, they are high school students.
Brutal physical assault, murder, throwing rocks off turnpike bridges.armed robbery can get a juvenile referred to the adult system for hard time.
This was a planned crime in which they selected a handicapped victim. They tricked and humiliated him in a particularly degrading way. They assaulted him with a potentially dangerous substances. And then they put it out for the world to see.
So let your heart bleed for this scum, they deserve no breaks.
Gosh a ruddies....what part of "despicable", "prosecuted to the full extent of the Law" don't you understand??? That I refuse to equate a misdemeanor assault with murder is hardly my heart "bleeding for this scum".
Toward the perpetrators of this atrocity: your worry is for them“so that they can grow up productive members of society without having to carry an excessive lifelong burden created by that mistake.”
That is not 'my worry', that is the intent of the juvenile justice system.....but don't leave out the rest of the intent, which is appropriate punishment, correction and counseling.

Really dude.... you used the word "atrocity", ...what word are you going to use to describe when a kid walks into his high school and blows away 20 people?
What do you call it when teenagers end an Ohio teacher's life as she knows it by dropping a rock thru the windshield of her car travelling on the highway? Do you know that not even one thread was opened on this site for that! Where's the outrage?

Put your rope away and try to keep things in perspective. Let the authorities handle it in accordance with the law.

Jesus, no wonder Hits is so up in arms about the reaction to the band hazing. He sees pouring feces on a developmentally disabled kid as a classic 'boys will be boys' prank
Hardly. But I can ascertain that you are a man who doesn't understand due process very well.

HitsRus;1652769 wrote:Would it make a difference if the Porky's style prank was done to a band geek?
Prank ; noun : a practical joke or mischievous act.

Let us all remember the day HitsRus said pouring fecal matter on a mentally challenged kid was equivalent to a practical joke from a fun 80's movie.

You have given your view of this “despicable” act: “
a fraternity hazing/initiation ritual” or “Porky's style prank.” Not a murder, just “misdemeanor assault.” WOW. They take a developmentally handicapped kid. And they plan his humiliation and degradation. They trick him into thinking he is involved in a popular activity to support a charity. From a rooftop they drop human waste on him and then they record it for the world to see.
But to you it is “misdemeanor assault..” Your heart bleeds for scum. The crime you listed sent people to adult prison for extended periods of time, so should this, F**k counseling.

• a member of a self-appointed group of citizens who undertake law enforcement in their community without legal authority, typically because the legal agencies are thought to be inadequate.

Let the legal authorities do their job. Obviously, you don't understand that we live in a nation governed by law....and that the law prescribes punishment to fit the crime. The law does not allow for citizens especially in the heat of the moment to take the law into it's their hands or to demand punishment in and above what is prescribed by law.

Please keep in mind that the victim may have case for civil redress in and above the criminal charges.

Did you have something else in mind? Do you want to string them up and hang them from a tree until dead?

Do you want to wait and see what the police and the prosecutors find as a result of their investigation?...or should we just go get a rope now?

gosh a ruddies we have an apologist for this hate crime and the scum who did it. Someone who repeatedly tries to diminish the seriousness of the crime and the culpability of it perpetrators. To him it is a "misdemeanor", an "initiation", a "prank."

That describes my son to a T and most kids with aspbergers. If that is what this kid has then I could easily see him not only falling for it but being talked into hiding it as it was "for a good cause".

Sign me up for a spot on the Vigilantes team. And then lets go get Hits after we deal with the perps.

Serously dude, advocating for allowing the authorities to do a full investigation and prosecution to the full extent of the law is not being an apologist. Under Ohio law, this does not qualify for a hate crime, no matter how much you or I wish it. I'm just being real here. I believe that there are some state legislators that may be trying to add "disabilities" to the categories protected under "hate crimes" but you cannot apply that retroactively.

As it stands, it is nothing more than a very cruel prank. The kid was taken advantage of, had a bucket of urine dumped on him. He probably went and took a shower and is fine. Unless you can prove some other kind of damage, prosecution will be what it will be.
As I said a couple of other times, there may be some redress in the form of a civil suit, and I'm sure the victim and his parents will walk away from this with a tidy sum well worth the humiliation of having a bucket of urine dumped on his head. The perps will go thru the juvenile system as prescribed by law.

As for me, I'm going to save my real concern for the Ohio teacher that had to have part of her brain removed because of a rock dropped thru her windshield.
How about you, sport?

I know kids on our soccer team in high school once pissed down a slide and then made a kid go down it. No one ever told the kid and he went to the football game that night in the same clothes. The difference between that prank and this one is that this kid was autistic.

Obviously you do not wish this atrocity to be treated as a hate crime. You describe it as “a prank”, you repeatedly purposely fail to mention feces were dropped on this boy. And what do you think the results of this action were:
HitsRus wrote: He probably went and took a shower and is fine.
He is not worthy of “my real concern .” Those are the words of an apologist and one with a particularly cold heart.
We have a boy with a handicap that makes interaction with others, then you pour urine and feces over him then send it out to the world on instagram. And then you say he is just fine, no long term social and emotional scars. WOW.
Of course we have your attempt to diminish this incident by comparing it to other horrific crimes. Number one, those other heinous acts are not the subject of this thread. Number two they should be punished as adult crimes as this act should with hard time.

If the kid wasn't autistic, how would this change things? I think all of us can share stories of jokes/pranks that could be considered cruel under the right circumstances. I know a kid that gave a girl exlax on the bus and told her it was chocolate. We had a guy on the football team that would piss on your leg in the shower. Etc.

I would suggest you take a course in reading comprehension, and while you're at it, brush up on your vocabulary, too. Start with words like apologist, atrocity, hyperbole, perspective.
I'm sure your local community college can help, or at least, help you find a place where you can get your GED.

if you want to gain perspective, here is something you should read.....

Gosh a ruddies let use your value system to evaluate some acts by teenagers. Recently in New Mexico three teenagers used brick and metal poles to beat to homeless men to death. They had attacked over 50 people over the past year. One of the attackers “
He told police that they used "several cinder blocks, a metal pole and some sticks" in the hourlong attack, the detective said. The 15-year-old "admitted to using the cinder block as a weapon over 10 times," he said.
The 15-year-old said his brother, 16, "scooped up some dirt from the ground and placed on the deceased males' faces and stated 'eat mud bitch,'
To your way of thinking how can we condemn those kids who threw the rock on the highway when the acts of these students was deadlier and caused pain to so many more people.
http://www.cnn.com/2014/07/21/us/new-mexico-teens-murder-charge/

It is an old tactic used by deniers and apologist such as yourself.
We can always find incidents that are worse than the one we are discussing. But that should not be used by apologist such like you to diminish what has been done to this poor kid. To you if he is not physically crippled or killed by the act, he is in your words “fine.” Just the victim of a little prank. He is handicapped. He was humiliated and degraded by people he trusted. He was attacked using possibly dangerous substances. And his humiliation and degradation will live on in the internet, causing him continuing psychological scars. The juveniles in all these incidents, should be tried as adults and suffer the maximum possible penalty.

CLEVELAND — Police said they have identified five teenage suspects involved in dumping bodily fluids on a 15-year-old autistic teen who thought he was participating in the "Ice Bucket Challenge."

Evidence against the suspects, who are between the ages of 14 and 17, will be presented to the Cuyahoga County prosecutor's office early next week to determine whether delinquency charges should be filed, Bay Village police chief Mark Spaetzel said today.

Spaetzel said detectives have focused on the suspects' social media accounts, such as Instagram, and that investigators are in the process of acquiring the teens' cellphones and obtaining their text messages.

^^^Being able to post videos to the internet is a relatively new phenomenon.

....and when your done mastering reading comprehension and vocabulary, you can advance to a course in logic and/or critical thinking.
I have not given the perpetrators of this cruel prank a free pass...I have said repeatedly that they should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law. I have, however, tried to put this in perspective to other juvenile crimes, so when they don't get tried as adults, and thrown in prison for 10 years, you are not surprised.

I would take this as a sign that they are being very thorough in prosecuting this, and that the delay is in trying to obtain evidence and witnesses that may allow them to make additional charges....perhaps trying to establish if there was a pattern of bullying or menacing this child.
