Donald Sterling banned for life by NBA

Yeah, I just don't think that there is anything for Cuban to gain here by associating himself in any way that could be construed as "support" for Sterling of any kind. Especially now that Sterling is banned. The deed is done.

Not a big fan of Silver after this, specifically due to him trying to feign ignorance about not knowing that Sterling was a racist. Today's decision was a self-serving move. But, in light of the manufactured national outrage, he had no choice. Had Silver "slapped" Sterling's hand with a one-year suspension and a million dollar fine, Silver's head would've been had on a silver platter and hated by black people (read: the NBA) for life.

Silver's an attorney, he wouldn't have used the CBA term "force the vote" unless he 100% had the 3/4's vote needed (which he alluded to later). He had to wait a couple days to round up the votes and have the league lawyers quadruple check the CBA to make sure they could do this.

And yeah, Sterling's going to get paid, but like someone said his legacy is written in the history books now and that's really the only penalty that means something to him.

They are "estranged" I believe is the term being thrown out.

Is he a racist asshole? From this and other previous incidents mentioned in this thread, sure sounds like it.

Can the NBA force him to sell the team? I'm curious how this could end up going.

Could economic pressures force him to sell? This seems the most likely.

    Yes. The answer is yes.

M&M had a lawyer on who studied the constitution of the NBA, and 2.5 million and banishment forever and sell the team was the worst he could get, so it apparently is within their rules.

    Lol, this.

They CAN force him out. To think they cannot is simply ignorance.

Thanks, I must have missed the part about an anti-racist organization gladly taking money from a known racist so as to become part of the plantation also. Nice.

Sterling has always been a notorious POS bigot and I'm sure the league was hoping he'd screw up and do something like this so they could drop the hammer on him. Good riddance. With that being said, with what looks like a "no tolerance" policy from Silver, I hope the next time Jay-Z drops the "N-Bomb" in concert he's forced to sell his interest in the Nets/is banned from the league and when these guys get busted for drugs, weapons, etc. Silver drops the same "hammer."

Jay-Z ditched his shares last year.

@WojYahooNBA: On ownership super majority needed to vote Sterling out, one Board of Governor tells Yahoo: "Adam has the votes - all of them, I believe."

Sorry if this was mentioned, but it's ironic that in effect, the commissioner is saying there's not room for racism in the league, but there's a stone racist sitting in the 2nd row.

What did the Federal Government prevent him from saying. A: absolutely nothing

What does the 1st amendment have to do with this? A: absolutely nothing

What is your level of knowledge of the constitution and how it affects private business or clubs? Apparently nothing

...Al Sharpton will have plenty of moronic comments tonight about how Sterling being fined 2.5 mil & loosing his team is STILL is NOT enough!

I love how everyone acts like everyone is so sure about this.

Yes, from what you guys say someone on Mike and Mike said this. But the fun thing about ventures that involve a ton of money, nothing is every cut and dry. People typically put up a fight when others try to forceably remove something they own.

As I was pointing out in my previous post. I could see economic reasons being theones he ultimately doesn't fight. But if he believes it to be in his best interest financially to fight(or hell maybe even for ego issues) I could see him fighting this.

I believe he will be gone for one reason or another, but I would be surprised if it happened entirely uncontested.

Even if it's questionable, they for sure could use tactics completely within the rules insuring that the Clippers would lose millions on top of millions. He's out, it's just a matter of how much he feels the need to fight.

I already said this was sarcasm...and know that both private businesses are allowed to operate outside the constitution(unless it comes to something about minorities)....but thanks for playing...
