Again! Debunked by a picture of the guys running 110 miles a week. Dammit!

not driving any point home or saying anyone is right..but the body i would rather have is a sprinter not a runner...even though it has been 6 years since i have attempted to run full speed lol

Really bad example. It makes sense for Olympic sprinters to be ripped. They benefit from the increased power. Olympic distance runners are going to be rail thin because it doesn't make sense for them to be huge. They need endurance, not power.

You guys are overly complicating this.

Gives new meaning to the saying run till you die...

I run a much faster pace on the treadmill.

    Doesn't mean it doesn't suck.

When I was training for the Turkey Trot last year (5 mile race) I was doing a lot of slow, long distance running and I never felt like I was getting stronger or better. So I started to switch it up a bit and do some faster pace stuff. I did some repeats on the track (400m, 600m, 800m, even miles), hill workouts (including bear crawls up hills, which suck) and my personal favorite of alternating faster-pace with jogging recovery.
When I'm at the rec center, I just am killing time until it warms up and I can resume that. I'll run 30 minutes or so, just alternating between slow days and faster-pace days. I try to bike and ellipitical just to give my feet/legs a rest (I have really flat feet and would get injured easily) but they just don't feel like they give me the best workout. I've also recently started using the rowing machine, which I think is the best workout for me (asides from running). Anyone ever use that?

Most importantly, I've been trying to watch my diet and slim down. I peaked at 240lbs back at the beginning of January. I've lost about 12-13 lbs over the past six weeks or so.

Rowing machine is great - i've almost puked using it before. I did 500m in 1:36 and I thought my heart was going to explode after. I think it's great for doing intervals. 500m with 1m rest is a killer.

Have you tried swimming? IMHO elliptical is worthless.

The key to being a runner is to switch it up. Distance, time, speed, HIIT, hills, etc to keep it fresh. Do the same or simliar thing all the time and you will get bored.

Depends on the person. I'm perfectly content with running 2-3 miles and just listening to music.

Being a Jim teacher requires lots of scheduling after school for what to do the next day, give him a break!

I believe it is spelled gym and I would not say negative things about an area that every school needs to have kids spend more time in. You want to talk about an area to cut Music!

Nice use of the word brochacho...sorry I missed the sarcasm just have kids in school and it drives me nuts they have music twice a week and gym once. I mean we really put out a lot of musicians (sarcasm), but we do put out plenty of fat kids!

No worries, I too like you have children in school and they both hate music. Plus my son is an amazing athlete and should only be participating in gym and nothing else.
