Workout/Lifting Thread and Health Thread

Walk 45 minutes every evening and usually about a 20 min walk in the morning. Small ab workout in the evening.

My new apartment has a little gym. Not really ideal but I can make due with it. No membership fee and proximity helps out a lot. Hard to get much time in right now, but am lifting a few days a week and subbing for a basketball league in Lakewood whenever I have time. Can't wait til I have more free time.

been doing t25 and insanity w my girlfriend...i must say i was skeptical at first but really seeing some great results. Havent really lost any weight but i am waay stronger and can tell the change in body shape and stamina. im not really a runner but when i went on the treadmill and was able to run three miles without stopping in 34 minutes, which might not be fast for some here but is great for me

34 minutes isn't a terrible pace, at least for me. I like to get on the treadmill and vary speeds. The treadmill I use has a 1/4 mile "lap" counter, so I'll usually go 4 mph to start and warm up, then bump up to 6 for a lap, then 7, then 8, then 9, then back down to 4. Really gets the heart rate going.

Should be fairly easily achievable. When you first start running your pace will be slow, but if you keep at it you'll start chopping seconds off very rapidly.

That's a 10 minute mile. My grandma runs 5ks all the time in about 24 minutes.
  • dlazz
Gblock is black, right? He should be used to running from the cops, so he probably has fast twitch muscle fibers.

He could probably smoke your grandma in the 40.

I shouldn't have to point out that my post is satirical.

thanks for the math lesson. yes i know its a 10 min mile...when i started my miles were more looking like 12+ so its an improvement for me because although i do lift weights i havent really did any cardio in about at least 15 months after hurting my calf playing bball

Got any resources for sprint workouts? I have a turf field near my apartment and been thinking about giving them a go. I'm not a fan of distance running and occasionally hear people mentioning the benefits of sprints.

You can do a "sprint" workout anywhere. For example, go to a track and sprint the straight aways, and walk/job the turns. In the country, do some pole running... sprint from one telephone pole to the next, then walk/jog the next. In town, do the same thing with city blocks.

BR120402F (whatever his screen name is) would be the guy to ask on sprint workouts. I actually prefer a sprint workout, as it gets your heart rate up, and allows for "resting" time. I'm not in it to run a marathon, just to shed some lbs. and get the heart rate up.

Distance running is more effective for burning calories. I'd start with that to lose initial weight and then transition to sprints

If BR were around, he'd tell you otherwise. HIIT (sprinting) burns more, and gets the heart rate going. Someone here can provide more info, but that someone isn't me. I'm just regurgitating what I remember reading earlier in this thread (or another thread).

Losing weight isn't the goal. Muscle building and fat loss with the addition of sprints.

Like I mentioned earlier, I have to alter the way I workout due to injury. It's going to be a while before I'm able to do your typical upper body lifts.

I think don't think it burns stored fat as quickly as distance running does. This is something ccrunner would be useful for. Probably the only thing he's useful for.

This - i tore muscles in my shoulder and can't do any sort of press, rows, or raises without pain.

I've been doing sprint workouts to try and maintain weight but can definitely tell i'm losing some upper body strength.

Distance running breaks down muscles - sprinting builds muscle.

I notice myself wasting away, it blows. I'm in the same boat. I can't do presses, or deads...basically anything you can go "heavy" on. Most accessory exercises will be fine. I plan to dedicate a lot of time to squats.
