    "Cardio" that builds muscle....

Elevated or decline push-ups. Can also add weight to your back or wear a weighted vest. Also, changing hand placement and angle.

Just in my garage, I'll take 2 kettlebells and put them horizontal with a very wide grip, wear a 20 lb weight vest and put my feet up on a table about 4 feet off the ground. Working toward sets of those over a period of time and you would be amazed how many regular push-ups you can then hammer out without any problem.

Yesterday was my last day in the gym for the time being.

I don't plan on joining another for at least 2 months, maybe longer. I'm interested to see how this plays out. I started the IF protocol around 2 years ago and kept my bf% between 10-12% for the last 18 months while maintaining decent strength. If you would have told me back in the day I could do that I would have laughed.

I still plan on following my current IF schedule, but it will be weird to not actually step in a gym to work out.

I'm going to check that "muscle building cardio" article. I think it could be beneficial.

The article makes complete sense. You're not "wasting" muscle by running springs, pushing prowlers, etc.

I don't even tell people I follow IF anymore. It just turns into a stupid ass "derp merp skipping breakfast is bad for you!!!" argument.

Usually you hear this from people who are A) out of shape, B) completely metabolically deranged where they are unable to go more than a few hours without eating.

I work in a large office and it's incredible the number of people who keep boxes of granola bars, cases of pop, bags of chips, candy, etc...at their desk because God forbid they be stuck without a snack or too busy to go prepare a meal.

The health benefits and overall life benefits of being able to control your hunger and control what your body fuels from is amazing. Unfortunately, it's above the heads of 99% of society and a concept that very few in the medical profession have a clue about.

I agree, most people are clueless when it comes to IF, but I've noticed it is gaining in popularity.

I used to get the wtf looks all the time when mentioning it. I also tend to shy away from that particular convo, but I've been seeing it pop up more in the mainstream media along when talking with random people, friends, etc about fitness and diet.

    What's IF stand for again?
  • Automatik

I've seen it popping up a lot too. Unfortunately only people into health exercise read that stuff. There are so many clueless people its unbelievable.

I've fallen in that category, as I've read things that say, "Skipping bfast leads to heart strain". I'm sure its probably a bs study or something.

I dont fast, but I can skip a meal without freaking out. Is there any truth to keeping your metabolism going? Back in 09 I read an article about it and started doing it. Eat a modest breakfast, carrots at 10 am, banana, at 1130; sandwhich at 1, apple at 230 eat dinner around 730. Fruits/veggies get changed up but you get the idea. Worked for me, but I'm open to better options.

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day!!! lol

I see a lot of talk about morning meals and metabolism, but I don't really buy it. Then you read something else saying the exact opposite.

People forget we are fucking animals. We can adapt to changes in eating schedule. I'm fully ingrained in it now. I still eat early every now and then, mostly on weekends, but it's just weird to me now to wake up and eat. I don't even feel hungry until after 1pm, sometimes later.

The naysayers have this idea that you are "starving" yourself, but its not that at all. You're just concentrating the time you take in calories to create a deficit needed to burn fat. I know people who have put on muscle while fasting. They still eat in 8 hour windows to maintain low bf, but consume more calories for growth.

lol, if my office wasn't a small one, I'd be thinking we're co-workers and just didn't know it or something. A couple of us refer to the rest of them as "grazers" because they constantly have chocolate treats and candy snacks around to just sort of constantly nibble from all day long every damn day.

Like, I don't do fasting or anything like that, but I am very good at controlling when I eat meals. If I get drunk and have a snack at night due to that, I have no problems with skipping breakfast. And I can go between lunch and dinner without needing to eat any snacks. Hunger is just a feeling. It is possible to quash it and not give in to every single damn impulse if you have any will power.

I think my favorite is the "I need to eat because I'm stressed!" line. Especially coming from people who are stressed simply because they're idiots as far as time management goes. Yes, you will have periods of being balls-to-the-wall stressed out at work...if you're the sort of person who loves to waste tons of time on stupid BS and only focuses when you have to.

I'm pretty sure it's not a coincidence that the people I find to be really stupid as far as regular day-to-day eating habits go to also be stupid as far as other things go.

I did the whole 6 small meals a day deal and it worked for me as well. I think BR did it as well and it worked. It's not that it is the wrong thing to do, but a lot of people think that is the only correct diet to the point where only eating 3 meals a day is bad for you... And they are dead wrong. Your body isn't smart enough to go on starvation mode because you skipped a small meal lol. If small meals works for you and you like it, then stick to it. It worked for me, but was just a pain in the ass to prepare for. IF is simple and gives you a little more wiggle room to chest
    IMO.

I found it best to eat 2 1/2 meals a day with healthy snacking. I am bi-polor when it comes to eating (so if I get hungry I might binge on junk) and will get headaches without food for an extended period of time so I have to eat something in the morning and something in the middle of the day. I can not IF or fast at all.

Of course they do. Everyone wants the easiest way out without doing the work (i.e. diet, workouts).

About half the country does nothing. The other 49% "work out." About 1% of people know how to "train."

At any given time, finding some goal to go toward. I also think there's something to be said about being able to transform your body any way you want. Want to take some time to really get huge? Want to take some time to really get lean? Want to really improve your explosiveness/speed? Want to really improve your strength? It's fun to always have a new goal, regardless of what it is. The 1% who "train" can implement the training/nutrition/lifestyle to achieve any of them at any given time without having to "work out."
