You guys are making a little too much out of this...They didn't know then, and they don't know now. It's probably natural to start out thinking if they spit on you, or scratch you, or get blood on you you'll get infected...but then down the road as it happens to people and they don't get infected you realize it's not 100%.

The writers may have just wanted to call attention to the two cops so the viewer would see the symbolism (and I admit I missed it both times). In terms of drama or suspense, that you can get infected by being scratched is not interesting. So if that means anything, it's that there are ways to contract the virus (maybe it's mutating) OTHER than being bitten or scratched. First thing that jumps to my mind is in animals you eat, or perhaps rats or mosquitoes. Maybe people are contagious before showing outward signs, so that would be a possibility too.

As others have pointed out, it's pretty obvious that that is NOT what the scientist told Rick. Why would Rick, at the beginning of season 2 when he was on the walkie talkie, would he about told the black guy about that? Remember when he was on the walkie and said "Don''t go to the CDC, it's gone and the scientist told me......well it doesn't matter what he said" (something along those lines). Also, as mentioned, Rick was shocked/upset/excited about Lorrie being pregnant.

I don't know that I saw that same reaction, nor does it mean he wasn't pretending like he didn't know. Also, Rick may have known she was pregnant but not known it was HIS baby.

What else could the scientist have told Rick that was so important, yet not important enough for Rick to share with the group? I don't think Rick would risk taking an important secret to his grave every time he goes out to tussle with walkers. That would be irresponsible, which Rick is not.

I thought the scientist ran blood tests, and IMO that leaves only a handful of possibilities - someone is pregnant, someone is an asymptomatic carrier or has an immunity (which presumably gives the scientist hope to persevere), or someone got a really shitty draw and has a terminal illness. The first and the last are the only possibilities you could logically conclude Rick would keep to himself.

As for the walkie talkie episode, the scientist told him he'd lost contact with other CDC's and, to his knowledge, was the last one active. And that could be the "....well, it doesn't matter". People saying it would be too obvious if Laurie was pregnant...well, that's the point of foreshadowing.

Talk about reading to much into something.

How so? People are insisting that there's more to what the doctor whispered, and there's no real basis for it. Oh, Rick was surprised - well, maybe, but he didn't know it was his kid, either. Or getting hung-up on whether you can get infected by being scratched. Maybe, maybe not - no reason the characters would know. This isn't Lost where there's some deep hidden meanings and foreshadowing, not some massive or surprising plot twist kept in the back pocket, at least no evidence of that to this point. They create situations for the characters and then we see how they react.

I think it was pretty simple, obvious and straight forward. If other people want to read more into it, then they have to go about it properly.

I'm not even going to speculate about this stuff, I'm just going to sit back and enjoy the show. Dale tries to be the force of reason but comes off as a dick. Shanes going crazy and needed that reality check by Rick but it could have just made it worse. Andrea is getting annoying with her super badass mode she is trying to be in, Glenn is turning into a puss, Darryl is still a hardcore mofo. I love this show

Dale looks to be particularly annoying next week. It's like his big "moment", where his sermonizing is no longer mostly theoretical. "That's a great world you live in, Dale....hopefully there are still people alive to enjoy it."

Problem as I see it is they haven't lost enough people, or at least not recently (except for Sophia). Seems pretty stupid to kill a perfectly able young adult when you have to plan on losing people to zombies, disease and who knows what over time. I don't think Laurie is going to be able to pop out enough soldiers fast enough to keep pace with demand.

Speaking of which, every woman of child-bearing age should be knocked-up by now. Because if and when you lose them, then there's not much left to fight for.

    1. When Rick first got out of the hospital, the black guy that found him (with his son) asked him if he'd been "bitten or scratched."

    2. Remember when they were stuck in Atlanta in the clothing store building? They talked about not getting any of the blood/guts on them when they were covering themselves so Rick and Glenn could get to the vehicle. They made it a very clear point and all wore gloves/suits when they were chopping up the zombie and spreading the blood/guts on those two. Now they get zombie blood all over them when they're killing them...they don't seem to care.
Or the virus is airborne meaning everyone already has it and simply takes death to become a walker.

I never thought of that, but it makes sense somewhat.

If that were the case, wouldn't anyone that dies then become a walker...regardless of how they died?

So the guys shot in the bar would become walkers after Rick shot them. And judging by how long it took the one chick's sister to turn into a walker after she was killed, the guys in the bar would have turned during the shootout in the bar. But they didn't.

Didn't that happen overnight? I thought it took her a while to actually die but turned in a matter of seconds after the death. I had forgotten about that. There's just so many things to speculate with this show; truly unlike any other.

No. They were shot in the head. Rick even shot the big guy in the chest then walked over and shot him in the head...

Leads me to believe that this is what Rick was told by the scientist.

Also, Andrea's sister died from a bite... The bite is probably full of bacteria, killing a person slowly... Then they reanimate from the virus they already carry.

Interesting theory, but pretty lame in so far as it's a big "secret" with little value - ok, so we put one in the head or burn the dead. Good to know, doesn't do much for the living.

Now what would have been cool is to have the chick that tried to kill herself succeed, and then have her wake-up shortly after a zombie. Maybe even take out Dale and a few others in the process...in which case I support this theory 100%!

Rick may be keeping it a secret to keep everybody from flipping their shit... He's made a lot of decisions to help the group and this could be another.

Either way, the series is heading down the right path... When the Governor plot comes to fruition, there will be lots of bloodshed and it won't just involve zombies. This is rumored to take place in S3 and these last few episodes seem to be hinting at a break-up within the group. They won't be on the farm much longer either, just like the novel.

I do but don't want to know what you speak of with this Governor plot.

Haha I know the feeling. No spoilers please.

My boss has read them all and tells me the shit is f'n crazy in the books. I want to start reading, but I feel it may ruin the show for me.

Kind of... The TV Show has done a GREAT job of being independent enough from the books to truly keep you guessing and give you those "oh shit" type of moments.

Rick was on the Rachel Ray Show this morning. (I was flipping through and noticed). Anyone else know he's British or something?

I seriously have a new respect for him as an actor. He does a great job with the slight hint of a southern accent.
