queencitybuckeyeNot sure what quarterback on the roster can be effective with receivers who can't get open and can't catch the damn ball on the rare occasions that they do get open. If any of them were worth a shit, there wouldn't be a six man rotation.

mcburg93I dont think it is all on the receivers. They relied on talent in high school. They need to be coached on techniques of how to come back to the ball when the qb is scrambling. They need taught techniques to get open. I personally think its time to move Zach Smith to another part of the team. He needs to coach the waterboys. Jt needs to stop double clutching the ball. Just throw it and let your receivers make a play. Uggg. There is so much that I saw the last two games that should not be issues. Very disappointed so far this year. I know Urban has a lot to do with the play calling, but only giving it to your running backs 16 times is bs. But being a fan I will trust the coaches to do their job. I think they can see the issues just like us. Whether they are willing the make the changes seems to be non existent but wtf do we know as fans.

Which leads to the question, is it the receiver coaching or are star rankings pure BS? Because OSU gets a ton of 4- and 5-star guys who've mainly looked really, really pedestrian, leading me to believe that whatever talent they have isn't being utilized properly by the coaches or that they've gotten their rankings on pure physical talent, but don't have the intangibles needed to play at a high level when going against other guys who also were rated highly.queencitybuckeye;1871691 wrote:Not sure what quarterback on the roster can be effective with receivers who can't get open and can't catch the damn ball on the rare occasions that they do get open. Probably a combination. Interest by the tOSUs of the world tend to bump some players up a star. The WR coach is the same one who was there when several receivers went to the next level.Heretic;1871707 wrote:Which leads to the question, is it the receiver coaching or are star rankings pure BS? Bottom line, if JT is a problem, he's only one among at least nine on offense alone (6 wideouts, the RG and RT). -
ironman02Obviously I was super pissed off after the game Saturday and ranted and raved. Now that I've had to time to really think about it, I think the main issues are these...
The offensive scheme. Urban keeps talking about how they're trying to meld together offensive philosophies, but to me, that seems to create a lack of identity for the offense. I think they need to base the offense around the running game. The offensive line does a great job run blocking, the RBs are VERY talented, and JT can be successful as a runner as well. Read option mixed with some other creative play-calling, maybe using Weber and Dobbins at the same time, then use the success of the running game to open up the passing game.
Personnel. All the WRs are talented in their own right, but athleticism doesn't necessarily make a great WR. These guys need to show attention to detail when running routes. Being more precise, and doing the little things like finding a soft spot in a zone and sitting down there, or coming back to the QB when he scrambles are things that they need to do consistently.
JT's lack of confidence. While the WRs have struggled to create separation, and have dropped some easy passes, JT is continually double-clutching or holding the ball too long. He doesn't trust his receivers, and he doesn't trust himself. He needs to just let it rip. Throw the ball with confidence, throw to a spot or lead his receivers. If he's afraid to make mistakes or take any chances at all, the problem is never going to get fixed.
Play calling. Kevin Wilson admitted that he hasn't done a very good job so far, but I think part of that is that he's trying to cater to Urban's philosophy. He needs to get the offense in a rhythm, keep doing what is working (running the damn ball), and then go from there.
Obviously the Ohio State staff knows the game, and they have been very successful. Urban Meyer is 62-7 at Ohio State. During that same span, Nick Saban is 66-7 at Alabama. They'll get this fixed, but hopefully it's sooner rather than later. There are several games coming up where they can work on things, continue to improve, and then be ready to roll when it's time for the tougher games on their schedule. The 2014 season is a prime example of being able to overcome an early loss, peak at the right time, and reach the ultimate goal. Will this team be able to do that? I'm not that confident right now, but I do believe that they'll end up having a solid season with a chance to be in the hunt in late November. -

Read that one yesterday and really enjoyed it. Makes you really feel bad that JT has been struggling, and taking most of the heat for the offensive problems. By all accounts, he's a great kid, and has really given so much to the Ohio State football program. Really hope he can turn things around and end his career on a high note. He deserves that.FatHobbit;1871720 wrote:https://www.elevenwarriors.com/ohio-state-football/2017/09/85248/the-boy-who-fell-out-of-the-sky -
wildcats20Honestly, I don't really care who is to "blame". It's going on 3 years of this shit and it needs to change.
If that means playing a young guy over your seasoned vet, then you do it. You can't have an allegiance to a player as the head coach of Ohio State.
If the wide outs are getting open and not progressing, then make a change. If JT can't hit the throws (which he really isn't), then make a change. -
Spock
315 pounder.....ran a 5.03 40 and in HS he ran a 13.2 in the 100 one night. He also holds all the weight room records at IU.salto;1869827 wrote:Thanks ccrunner. Nice to see a Milton kid playing in the B10. He definitely showed his speed and quick feet on this play.

Urban has changed OC's three out of the last four years, yet we still run the same offense. It's not necessarily the QB or the receivers, it's the system--and THAT has to change.wildcats20;1871737 wrote:Honestly, I don't really care who is to "blame". Ironman92Nice line drive pass deep smh. Let them run underneath it

SportsAndLadyBarrett is so inaccurate, man oh man.
I'm cool letting him have this year, he's earned it and he's our best option at QB. But man it'll be nice to have an accurate QB out there next year. -
Terry_Tate
Hopefully the next QB is accurate, lol. Don't think they can be any worse though, Barrett has had some miserable throws this year.SportsAndLady;1871992 wrote:Barrett is so inaccurate, man oh man.

wildcats20Absolute chicken shit for punting from the 34. And absolutely deserve a 99 yard drive shoved down your throat.

Spock1st and 10 on 15. 3 straight pass plays.......RUN THE BALL
-
wildcats20If JT is the best option at QB on this team, then Urban might start having health problems after this season.
