If msu and osu are two of the top 4 teams, then yes they should both get in.sherm03;1752285 wrote:Funny you mention that, because I'm interested to see what happens this year.
If OSU and MSU are #1 and #2, and MSU wins a tight game against OSU on 11/21 and goes on to win the B1G, I'll be interested to see how B1G fans (and a bunch of people on here) react. Will everyone be saying that OSU should be allowed to get in because they were the best all year long and their only loss came in a close one to the #1 team? Or will everyone stick to the drum they were beating for awhile and say OSU is out because if you can't be the best in your own conference you don't deserve a shot in the playoffs? Lots of stuff has to fall right for that to happen, but I'm speaking on a hypothetical here.
And before you reply, Sleeper, I know...OSU will beat MSU by 50 so this isn't even a discussion. But just throwing it out there as one of those what-if scenarios we all like to play when it comes to college football.
It's really that simple.
Problem with lsu and bama that year, was that first game they both looked horrible. It was such a boring game, the final score was fucking nine to six. That's why no one wanted it , not just because anti-SEC. -

I understand. And I'm not talking about that LSU/Bama game...more speaking to the fact that fans flip flop their arguments based on how it fits their situation.SportsAndLady;1752303 wrote:If msu and osu are two of the top 4 teams, then yes they should both get in.

And for the record, I agree with you: the top 4 teams, regardless of conference should get in. But last year when it looked like 2 SEC teams might get in, people on here specifically were very upset saying you should have to win your conference in order to be eligible. So I'm interested to see who would change their mind if OSU was the one that would be getting robbed out of it this year. -

Which two teams last year? From what I remember it was either Ohio State or TCU?sherm03;1752304 wrote:I understand. And I'm not talking about that LSU/Bama game...more speaking to the fact that fans flip flop their arguments based on how it fits their situation.

Azubuike24Just in general. A lot of people have the opinion that you should win your conference if you want in.

This was earlier in the season, when ESPN was hyping up Ole Miss and Miss State. The question was spurred last year by the possibility of the SEC West champ being undefeated and losing in the SEC championship game, making them a 1-loss conference runner-up and whether or not they would be worthy of a playoff spot.SportsAndLady;1752315 wrote:Which two teams last year? I'll just direct you to this thread. This is where tons of people (and lots of OSU fans) said that only those that win their conference championship should be allowed into the playoffs. They don't feel that it should be the best 4 teams overall. Which is why I was wondering how they would feel if OSU and MSU are clearly top 4 teams all year long and the possibility of OSU being the #1 team all year and ending with 1 loss to a team that is also at the top of the heap. Would they change their stance from last year since now it would benefit them?

lhslep134IMO if Ohio State loses to MSU they're out. Not a strong enough win on their schedule to overcome that loss. Obviously that changes if there's a lot of chaos.
Interesting proposition about MSU though...if they lose by a FG in Columbus, and have a win over Oregon on their resume, I think that could be worth a playoff spot. -

Top 4 teams make the playoffs. That's what I want. Not really sure why you're trying to throw this "osu fans contradict themselves" bullshit around.sherm03;1752324 wrote:This was earlier in the season, when ESPN was hyping up Ole Miss and Miss State. Dude...chill the fuck out. I'm not saying you. I proposed that hypothetical about MSU and OSU because I got killed on that thread I posted for saying top 4 should be in. Sleeper brought up that SEC fans were all about the LSU/Bama rematch after being so against the OSU/Michigan rematch. I'm just saying that I wouldn't be surprised if it happened this year, the people in that thread that I posted, would change their tune because fans flip flop positions based on how it affects their team.SportsAndLady;1752332 wrote:Top 4 teams make the playoffs. Jesus fucking Christ, man. I don't know how many other ways I can explain it to you. -

I don't get why you're so mad? You are taking sleepers posts and making it seem like the whole fanbase is saying it.sherm03;1752337 wrote:LOL. OK man. Good talk. -

I'll bite. There are 5 power conferences and 4 slots. IMHO you should have to win your conference to get in.sherm03;1752285 wrote:Funny you mention that, because I'm interested to see what happens this year.

Maybe if it comes down to a one loss MSU (having only lost at OSU) and a 2 loss Oregon I guess I could see it. But then you would be leaving 2 conference champs out and that just doesn't seem right to me. -
sherm03
Where are you even getting this stuff from? I'm not taking Sleeper's posts and making it seem like the whole fanbase is saying anything. I'm taking the posts in the link I posted on post #401 above and saying that THOSE PEOPLE are saying it. Sleepers post just spurred the idea of me posing the hypothetical question.SportsAndLady;1752343 wrote:I don't get why you're so mad? At this point, I have to figure that you're just fucking with me. Because there's absolutely no way you can be this dumb that you don't understand the flow of my posts. -
Azubuike24We haven't seen it yet, but what happens if a few of the power 5 leagues end up with 2+ losses. I can definitely see that happening in the SEC, Pac 12, Big 12 and possibly the ACC this year. Once you don't have 4 champions with 0 or 1 losses, all "conference" accomplishments go out the window and you have to evaluate each team based on the eye test and their resume.

Sparty is a better team than anyone the ACC can trot on onto a field.FatHobbit;1752349 wrote:I'll bite. There are 5 power conferences and 4 slots. IMHO you should have to win your conference to get in.

Also, 2 conference champs will be left out if Notre Dame goes undefeated. -
Azubuike24Well, Notre Dame plays Clemson, so that should take care of one contender. I don't see either of those teams getting in with 1 loss, given the other leagues are stronger.

TiernanSherm you are giving S&L waaaay too much credit...he most certainly CAN BE THAT DUMB...and frequently is.He is very much like sleeper in that they have limited knowledge of the strategies of CFB and just run around with their face paint Os and #1 jerseys screaming GO BUCKS! Sad really.

Simply no. OSU has to win the B1G to go to the playoff.sherm03;1752285 wrote:Funny you mention that, because I'm interested to see what happens this year.

I'm not so sure OSU beats MSU right now anyway. Our offense needs to step it up. -

Good post. The only way it should ever happen is if its an extreme situation like mentioned above. If MSU has 1 loss to an undefeated OSU team, and every other conference champion has 2+ losses, then maybe. But I still think with only 4 teams you need to win your conference to be in the playoff.FatHobbit;1752349 wrote:I'll bite. There are 5 power conferences and 4 slots. I agree with you, but more than once the team everyone thought had no chance has beaten the team everyone had already crowned champ.wildcats20;1752394 wrote:Sparty is a better team than anyone the ACC can trot on onto a field. -

Please tell us again how you motivated Urban Meyer to be a better coach against MSU a few years ago.Tiernan;1752404 wrote:He is very much like sleeper in that they have limited knowledge of the strategies of CFB and just run around with their face paint Os and #1 jerseys screaming GO BUCKS! TiernanIt was last year Dingus. After the VT loss some of us who actually know football pointed out a few points to Urbie on radio, print etc and he listened and got things on track right before the MSU game. This time I'm saying pick a QB and stick with him even if he throws 3 or 4 picks. Ride it out it's the only way the kid is going to get better by taking game snaps. Also Zeke needs more touches. Get those things done and Bucks will roll.
