You just once again proved you know nothing about CFB...didn't you "Mike LB"? Oh yeah nobody here's gonna ever let you forget that one dumbass.SportsAndLady;1753256 wrote:Does Notre Dame still bring money in? I don't know a single person who doesn't go or has already gone to Notre Dame who likes them. -

Uh yeah...that's what I've been trying to tell all you...Harbaugh coming to scUM is a nightmare for us. The game on Nov 28 IN FKG ANN ARBOR!!! just got so big the oxygen left the room. OSU has the talent to win that game but right now I'm questioning whether they gave the heart.slingshot4ever;1753268 wrote:Wonder if that means UM is better than most might think. -

I don't really think it matters quite frankly. ESPN already bought the rights from the NCAA to showcase the games for the next 10 years, so really the only people that can make more money is ESPN. The CFP committee has no attachment or incentive to make sure that ESPN makes more money from a higher rated game. The reality is, ND should be punished for not playing in a conference championship game and relying on the "money" advantage is laughable at best. This ain't the 1970's dude; ND has been trash for decades.sherm03;1753269 wrote:I know. That's why I quoted his post and responded to it...
Not boasting about anything. Just stating facts. College athletics are 100% about money above anything else. Notre Dame is a school that brings that money in, even when they absolutely blow. Given similar records, ND would have the advantage because of the ratings/money they would draw. Not really anything braggy about any of that.
You really have no clue what you're talking about, huh? -

Translation: when everyone else is actually playing 12 games against FBS schools plus a conference championship, you'd have a point. Until then, ND plays just as many, if not more, FBS schools than most schools out there (with the exception being OSU and top schools in the B1G...who don't schedule FCS schools either).
And if you think that the CFP committee isn't swayed at all by ESPN, you're hilarious. -

Yep. They'll be a mid major team in the next 10 years. Nobody grows up liking the Irish anymore. Like you said, this isn't the 70's. Young people like teams who play in conferences and aren't affiliated with a religion.sleeper;1753280 wrote:This ain't the 1970's dude; ND has been trash for decades. -

Wrong. Young people like teams who win. And if kids aren't growing up liking Notre Dame, then all those kids I see at the stadium wearing their Irish jerseys every day sure are confused.SportsAndLady;1753284 wrote:Yep. LOL at the idea of a kid trying to figure out which team he likes and saying, "oh wait...they aren't in a conference, I don't like them." So ridiculous man. -
SportsAndLady
Those kids are just there because their parents liked the Irish in the 70's and are being forced to like ND. Poor kids. Probably have a different game up on their phones the whole ND game watching teams they actually like.sherm03;1753285 wrote:Wrong. Young people like teams who win. They don't have a conference championship game and they can never be a conference champion. We saw what happened last year because of that.sherm03;1753283 wrote:"I think that when they decide to not play FCS teams, then maybe we can be on an equal footing." - Brian Kelly.

Keep that tin foil hat on and tell me more about the money conspiracy in CFB. Let me guess, OSU only got in because they are OSU and they bring more $ in. LOL -

You're delusional if you don't think the fan base is depleting quickly. You are right, people like teams who win and ND hasn't won ANYTHING in 30 years. They also aren't the only team on TV on Saturday afternoons like 50 years ago.sherm03;1753285 wrote:Wrong. Young people like teams who win. Pretty amazing to keep selling out the stadium, staying near the top of the revenue generated year after year, and continuing to pull in ratings with a quickly depleting fan base...sleeper;1753294 wrote:You're delusional if you don't think the fan base is depleting quickly. I loathe the conference championship arguments. I dont give a shit who is the best of random schools that schedule each other yearly to save on travel (which is all a conference really is), I want to know who the best 4 teams are.sleeper;1753292 wrote:They don't have a conference championship game and they can never be a conference champion. Determining that is impossible and conference champion at least signifies you are the best in your region.ts1227;1753471 wrote:I loathe the conference championship arguments. You have yet to explain the financial mechanics and benefit to the 13 member CFP committee. They represent universities who have already earned 90% of the money from the bowl games already from media TV rights. Every team from a power 5 conference would sell out tickets and buy merchandise so the other 10% is a given. The only one who benefits from higher ratings is ESPN who again has zero influence on the committee.sherm03;1753470 wrote:If you don't think that CFB is all about the money, then you are the one that is delusional...and naive...and pretty dumb.

Explain to me the financial mechanics and benefit and maybe we can talk. You look like quite the dolt spewing memes from the 70's. -
TiernanI hate ND more than anybody but Sleeper and S&L are a couple of complete dolts if they don't think the Irish Famine still maintains a very influential place in CFB. The 13 pickers are gonna do everything in their power to place ND in the Final 4 if it can be pulled off without looking like complete idiots. TV money drives the close decisions everything else being equal and TV looooves ND. We've already established that Sleeper knows nothing about CFB because he refuses to acknowledge top to bottom the SEC is better than the B1G and S&L proved he's nothing more than a coed that paints herself red each week, drinks peach vodka and asks the guys next to her...Ooooo I'm soooo wasted...who are we playing today? Because he doesn't know what a Mike LB is does he gang?

Can you prove that ESPN has zero influence on the committee? It's laughable that a bunch of old guys that don't know how finance works and think there is a massive conspiracy to maximize the revenue of ESPN at the expense of the credibility and integrity of the game itself. Grow up. -

Classyposter58BG is 2-0 vs the B1G and OSU is number one. What a great September!

Ironman92When I was in high school and even through much of the 90's the area I live was a size able portion ND fans. They were prominent in the area for sure. Sitting here in 2015 I know 2 ND fans ad they are both around 50-55 years old and (I swear) wear their ND Starter jackets.
ND trailed only Ohio State for a long time around here in seeing their merchandise.....now behind OSU, Ohio U, WVU, Marshall, UC, Michigan....while UK, Oregon, IU, FSU, Florida, Tennessee, UT all are seen as much as the rare ND apparel.
When ND started being shown every Sat on NBC it was pretty cool still....couldn't tell you the last time I watched them as a main game on that day. -
sherm03
That may be the case in the area you live. But the numbers nationwide do not support your claim. Ask yourself this question...why would Under Armour, Nike, and Adidas all bid on the Notre Dame contract for apparel recently, and why would Under Armour agree to the "largest financial commitment ever made by a brand to a university" if the brand wasn't selling? That would not make any business sense at all. But the fact is, Under Armour is going to be raking in the cash thanks to the amount of Notre Dame merchandise they will be selling.Ironman92;1753531 wrote:When I was in high school and even through much of the 90's the area I live was a size able portion ND fans. Notre Dame...no matter how irrelevant everyone wants to say that they are or are becoming...is still the #2 most valuable team in the country.
http://www.forbes.com/sites/chrissmith/2014/12/22/college-footballs-most-valuable-teams-2014/
They also have sold out every home game since 1966 (except for 1 in 1973 played on Thanksgiving day). So if the fan base is dwindling, there are still plenty of people showing up every week. The fan base for Notre Dame is fine. Even if the team is pretty shaky at best.
And Sleeper, the fact that you think anyone involved gives two shits about the "integrity" of college football is laughable. It's a business. Saying the CFP committee isn't interested in putting together games that would garner the highest ratings possible is like saying that the players don't ever accept cash handshakes from boosters. You're crazy if you think the CFP committee doesn't want the teams that bring in the most money and generate the highest ratings in the CFP. -
sleeperI think its funny that ND fans talk about fan base, revenue, contracts, etc. and not anything that actually matters.
I don't give a flying fuck how much money or fans OSU has and I never will. When is ND going to grow up and join a conference like everyone else? No wonder they can't win anything; everyone is focused on money rather than winning. LOL
