Crimson streakSurprised ole miss jumped that high. They beat an overrated bama team with some lucky bounces. I don't think they are top 3 worthy. I personally think LSU is the best SEC team and will be tough to beat

SEC changes its tune every year. If the win the championship, the best team represents the best conference. If they don't, its about the depth of conference. If both don't work, like last year, they just hold out until the next year when they all are ranked again pre-season. -

if you want to say one is better than the other, then all teams need to be looked at, not just OSU and MSU. If you are just trying to say Big Ten is strongest at the top, then I would agree.SportsAndLady;1752118 wrote:Never understood this argument. Who gives a fuck if our 8th best team can beat another conference's 8th best team?
The big ten has the top 2 teams in the entire country, that's what matters. -

top to bottom does matter of looking at strength of ENTIRE conference. Also, I am not the SEC, just giving my opinion.sleeper;1752129 wrote:Top to btm matters though!

You don't get it and you never will. No point in wasting my breath.slingshot4ever;1752133 wrote:top to bottom does matter of looking at strength of ENTIRE conference. Also, I am not the SEC, just giving my opinion.
B1G will continue to be one of the top conferences in college football. Sorry! -

Agreed. Indiana sucks. No one disputes this.SportsAndLady;1752118 wrote:Never understood this argument. Who gives a fuck if our 8th best team can beat another conference's 8th best team?

Are you talking about how bad Bosa played in the opener?Tiernan;1752066 wrote:Then you don't know shit about CFB and please quit sharing your ignorance -
TiernanI never said he played in "the opener" dickweed. I said he has been pedestrian at best the past two games. I'm perceiving a "we can win without really overextending ourselves" attitude from this team. And that will bite your ass somewhere during the season if Urbie can't work it out of them.

Indiana sucks like Arkansas but the difference is Arkansas was ranked at some point pre-season. Indiana will never be ranked preseason.FatHobbit;1752150 wrote:Agreed. Indiana sucks. No one disputes this. -

Rankings shouldn't come out until everyone has played 3 games. The flaws in the rankings really correct themselves by week 3.sleeper;1752211 wrote:Indiana sucks like Arkansas but the difference is Arkansas was ranked at some point pre-season. Indiana will never be ranked preseason. -

I agree but that will never happen. I also think the flaw in rankings benefits certain teams(SEC really) because those teams get higher inflated rankings by playing intra-conference games early in the season.Azubuike24;1752216 wrote:Rankings shouldn't come out until everyone has played 3 games. Yeah, most teams live in the "one good (or hopefully good) opponent and 3 chumps" mentality for the non-conference schedule. If you sprinkle in a conference game during that time period, odds are, you'll be going against a team perceived to be good or great while a lot of other teams are playing chumps. So you brag about how you play tough teams all the time. And then lie low during that Week 10 Saturday when everyone else is playing conference games and you're playing a team so low it makes everyone else's chump opponents look like powerhouse.sleeper;1752218 wrote:I agree but that will never happen. Azubuike24True, but I think most rankings in college sports are solely based on reputation and talent. If you take those attributes, the SEC usually has the most on paper. It still doesn't say shit about how their on-field product will look. Way too much turnover in pieces on a college level to ever accurately project this stuff.
Good news, the playoff committee basically ignores the rankings, rather the rankings usually reflect the thoughts of the committee. It basically means that no conference is ever going to get 2 playoff teams unless there is a very skewed win/loss record breakdown in a given year.
Florida State/Clemson Winner
TCU/Baylor/Oklahoma Survivor
SEC Winner
Michigan State/Ohio State Winner
Only in a unique scenario would it not be the case this year. The Pac 12 looks pretty screwed with every top team except UCLA already having a loss. -
Azubuike24Think about it this way though. While it's flawed logic, an early loss tends to hurt more than a late one. The Pac 12 and SEC allow conference games to be played at any time, and many of those teams play rivalry games late in the season.

You mean "less" instead of "more", don't you? Since Ohio State made the playoffs last year despite losing their opening game to a blah team, while several years back #2 Michigan got dropped out of the BCS championship after losing 42-39 to #1 Ohio State in their season finale, that makes more sense.Azubuike24;1752223 wrote:Think about it this way though. Of course the irony is the SEC fans were so against a rematch that year but conveniently for the LSU/Bama rematch years later.Heretic;1752235 wrote:You mean "less" instead of "more", don't you? Azubuike24Yes, I meant an early loss hurts less than a late one. It shouldn't be that way, but it is. However, it would make sense to schedule harder games, sooner, and cupcake games, later. I truly believe the playoff system will make that obsolete. They are looking at the best 4 teams and evaluating their losses based on what they are, not when they happened. However, they are also able to look at how a team is playing NOW, to trump when the losses happened (see OSU last year).
TCU/Baylor had "better losses"
Ohio State was playing better
The latter matters more when you're splitting hairs. -
sleeperOhio State would blow TCU/Baylor out of the water last year. The game wouldn't even be close.
-
Azubuike24Of course. That was my point. They objectively picked the teams for the playoff and got them right.

Can't disagree, although FSU should have been seeded #4 not #2.Azubuike24;1752251 wrote:Of course. That was my point. They objectively picked the teams for the playoff and got them right. -
TiernanOSU got in on one single game... They blew out a 7pt favorite 59 - 0!!! If that game had been 47-14 they wouldn't have gotten in.

Funny you mention that, because I'm interested to see what happens this year.sleeper;1752237 wrote:Of course the irony is the SEC fans were so against a rematch that year but conveniently for the LSU/Bama rematch years later.
If OSU and MSU are #1 and #2, and MSU wins a tight game against OSU on 11/21 and goes on to win the B1G, I'll be interested to see how B1G fans (and a bunch of people on here) react. Will everyone be saying that OSU should be allowed to get in because they were the best all year long and their only loss came in a close one to the #1 team? Or will everyone stick to the drum they were beating for awhile and say OSU is out because if you can't be the best in your own conference you don't deserve a shot in the playoffs? Lots of stuff has to fall right for that to happen, but I'm speaking on a hypothetical here.
And before you reply, Sleeper, I know...OSU will beat MSU by 50 so this isn't even a discussion. But just throwing it out there as one of those what-if scenarios we all like to play when it comes to college football. -
Spock^^^^A loss is a loss is a loss
-
TiernanNo way OSU & MSU are 1 & 2 come Nov 21.
